Tournament Roundup - Mar 15-31 2011
April 5th, 2011 04:12 GMT
Results for March 15 – March 31, 2011
Greetings and welcome to International Tournament Roundup! Sick of wading through countless threads, posts, and articles looking for recent SC2 tournament results? The TeamLiquid International Tournament Roundup is the one-stop shop for all of your tournament result needs, and it's coming to you twice each and every month.
Don't be fooled, the GSL is great, but there's a massive amount of talent outside of Korea. Foreign juggernauts are battling it out in epic games, and in epic tournaments, on a daily basis. After all, our boys have more than proven that they can compete.
Who's the current top dog outside of Korea?
Please note that if an event is not listed, it is likely because it either didn't make the prizemoney cutoff, or results were simply not properly recorded in public view by tournament administration. 17 events did not report results, and I was only able to find the results (In threads, brackets, or by mailing administrators) of about 10-12 of those. Don't blame me, blame the event admins. I can't do their job for them. Thanks!

Total Prizemoney: ~$23,825 USD (+ Prizes!)
Top Dog There's a ton of powerhouses outside of Korea, but who's this edition's top dog? Let's take a look at which players have posted the most impressive results over the past 2 weeks.
Note: This isn't a prize-money or medals ranking, but instead based upon overall player performance.
+ Show Spoiler [Honorable Mentions] + GoOdy !! Last edition's Top Dog, and recent destroyer of NesTea, GoOdy has managed to take down a Zotac Cup, a Sennheiser Cup, and 2nd place in a 4players.de Cup in the past two weeks. Total Prizewinnings: ~$285 USD ClouD !! The cookie monster lost a showmatch in devastating fashion, however he also managed to take the HEAT Invitational as well as a major event over very strong opposition, taking home the Champion's Trophy for March. Total Prizewinnings: ~$675 USD
The World Team !! I think I speak for everyone when I say that I'm really really really proud of the world team, even the ones that didn't exactly pick up any wins. They all represented the foreign scene greatly, and certainly proved that top foreigners can compete with, and defeat, top Koreans.
Third + Show Spoiler [Third] + Nerchio !! This player's name has been creeping around quite a bit in these roundups lately, as he has been showing moderately attractive results. This past few weeks he's managed to sneak in a 4players.de Cup win, a GameCreds Cup win, a CraftCup win, and he took 3rd at the JeeLounge Invitational among some really top quality players. Nerchio is certainly one you should keep your eye on. Total Prizewinnings: ~$385
Runner-Up + Show Spoiler [Runner-Up] + BRAT_OK !! A man everyone should fear, BRAT_OK recently won a Vision Cup, placed just ahead of the above player Nerchio in the JeeLounge Invitational, and also placed third in the highly competitive Justin.tv Invitational. While he hasn't yet shown his true Brood War fearsomeness, one can only assume that this Russian monster isn't going anywhere soon. Total Prizewinnings: ~$270
Top Dog + Show Spoiler [The Top Dog] +
Medal Podium
Note: Only players with multiple non-showmatch podium appearances are included.

So much information. My brain is exploding with love.
|
Terran players need to step it up
|
I still love the shopped pic of Jinro with that big check and a shit eating grin on his face.... gets me every time!
|
hahahha look at all those european terrans!
good stuff from nerchio!
|
Wow. Thanks so much for compiling this, I don't think any of us would be motivated to find out tourney results otherwise
|
Brat_OK!!!
Can't wait to see you in NASL
|
Wow, there are SOOO many tournaments. This is just crazy to go through, but thank you so much for putting it all together! Man that was sick!
|
There is too much going on, admittingly I'd like lesser tournaments.
|
I feel like this gets redundant, but I just want to express my appreciation for this. Thanks so much again!
|
I think Sen and Dimaga deserved to be mentioned also in this last 2 weeks, even if just for Korea vs the World results. The first 2 weeks in Arpil will deffinitely go to Naniwa, you here this here first
|
love this recap, someday i want to see my name littered with this, i remember facing off with dde in a few little tournies before he got picked up by nrg. he was excited by the recognition and look at him now. good stuff
|
Fantastic write up. Lots of research go into these and thank you for consistently bringing it to the community
|
Really glad to see some of these players doing so well! Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!
GL 2 all
|
theres a second decent british starcraft player! we're getting better! we'll be taking down Sweden next
|
I'm so eager to see BRAT_OK playing at the NASL.
offtopic: when are we going to get flags for the SC2 korean teams .
|
Sorry but I've been looking for a while to find the recap and star ratings for March GSTL. Can anyone point the the direction, or has it not been done?
Otherwise grats to Kas!

Please don't turn this information into a balance discussion. It's FAR too little data to make such generalizations.

Lol everyone talking about how eSports is going to explode this year; i think this post makes everyone realise just how much goes on for SC2.. pretty damn insane! Thanks for this as usual

Kas "The machine"! It's his nickname in the german community because he's playing 100 ladder matches and 3 cups every day!

You are from Germany, you should know that ^^
Check out Jinro in the Korea vs World pic btw, totally baller :D

Is this nickname commonly used? It's pretty fitting, haha. Guy's an absolute beast.

Yeah the podium is a bit.. Odd for this edition as well, due to the fact that lots of top guys we'd normally see around were busy preparing for MLG, TSL, or in Korea at the World thing.
Oh and yeah, I love that World Team picture. It's got everyone in it, and DIMAGA's creeping in the background as he prepares to kick some major ass.

I believe a GSTL report is coming, otherwise you can check out the live report threads. This report doesn't cover GSL or GSTL, due to the fact that it's not on par with the 'spirit' of the post.

Too many tournaments have been forgotten For example: Champions Trophy March - Europe ( 26th March) --> 250€ Heat Tournament - Live from Leipzig - ClouD-TLO-iNSo-Rine (27th March) --> 525€
|
I would like to see SEN getting more credits that he deserves. Living in taiwan restricted the tournaments he is able to attend. But he was able to take down Sjow 2-1, Naniwa 3-2 in GCPL finals, 2-0 fenix and has some interesting games in GSL world tournament. That's some big names there. : ]
PS: Naniwa is like a beast recently!!!Hope to see him play in more tournaments :D

One thing to note: Since he didn't include the SSC Cup Grand Final from 29th March ( grid link ) where Hasuobs and Darkforce placed 1st and 2nd for 700€ / 200€ they are not in the Medal list, which otherwise they would have been cause they also placed 2nd and 1st in 4pl.de Cup #25 .
Also Hasuobs and especially Naniwa don't play many tournaments, White-Ra was in Korea and Socke practiced for MLG I think.
edit: wait, grid link doesn't work ... edit2: ok, was the wrong link^^

I did my best to get the information via contacting admins and inquiring players/threads, but I can only do so much. You'd think REPORTING RESULTS IN A PUBLIC SETTING (TL thread, their website, etc.) would be a relatively high item on the 'to-do' list, but unfortunately about 30-40% of tournaments fail to do so. I can't do tournament admin's jobs for them.

Thanks much, but please note that the OP you linked contains no result information, nor does it include a link to that bracket. I was aware of this event, even covered the RINE/cloud showmatch at the same location, but I ended up not covering it due to not being able to find results in a reasonable location.
There's a TON to cover in this post. I can't sift through 20 pages of thread for every tournament to find out who won. If admins can't report their results in a reasonable location, there's a good chance I'll miss them, as I can only afford to dig so far. How hard is it for them to update their OP's or link a bracket?

Yeah, sad that those tournaments are left out. Cloud (as well as Hasuobs and Darkforce) is really really good right now.
Anyway, thanks for the roundup, it must be a lot of work and I really appreciate it.
edit: Okay just one more thing cause I just noticed. The Coint Toss Tournament where Socke won 1000€ on 29th March is not included altho I think brackets are rather easy to find thread link , bracket link Together with the Justin.tv Invitational's first place for $600 this would have earned Socke a spot as well^^

No surprise CatZ lost to TLO, TLO is just a boss. Cruncher Vs LzGamer will be interesting.
Lol I love how its 2 people playing in a show match and one wins money and one doesn't yet they still give medals next to their names when its only 2 people lol

Thank you, this post is awesome and very important! As it will become more noted over time hopefully admins will take the time to update results or even PM them to be included in thise roundup; because it does not only help us, the crowd greatly, to see the current standings, but also helps the tournaments get their name out there and be seen.
Thank you, GJ!
Suggestion: A cool, but not important, fact to include, would be the total amount of prizemoney played for over the specific period of time. Just to see how it changes over time.
|
Thanks much, s031720.
Oh and, the total prizemoney thing is there already, look a little closer! =)
|
|
Price money seems to be increasing isn't it? That is good to see.

gogo goody be 1st next time again (but seeing the italien results i dont think so ... perhaps hasuobs ?) GOGO HASU !

It seems that you don't understand how professional sport works. When a sport grows there will be bigger and more tournaments. At some time the star players won't play in small tournaments (which is already happening). You have to deal that you can't follow every tourney. I know that even Socke said too that there are too many tourneys. But I am shocked by these statements. Every tourney, every game is good for starcraft and e-sports.
|
~$25,000 in total prizemoney is pretty sick.
Having over $1000 tied up in the smaller concurrent cups that are played every week is also great to see.

More tournaments is fantastic because it means more diversity, and a lower entry into the money (because the best are tied up in the "big" events). Basically, it means that the SC2 scene on a whole isn't resembling other successful e-sports, but starting to resemble established actual sports (you know, those roughly a million times bigger than any e-sports ever was). :D
|
It's kind of interesting when you look at these minor tournaments and see 90% of them are EU based. U.S. step it uppp

Excellent post OP, really enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

go GoOdy! Won a Zotac Cup, a Sennheiser Cup, and 2nd place in a 4players.de Cup and still less than 300$ of price money? :o
|
This is so useful, really cool.
I'd like to see other awards distributed instead of the three "Top Dogs", though. Like, highlighting the player who won the most money and the one who had the best medal results, and after that, award those "Top Dogs" for overall performance.
The first two are just stats, so it wouldn't add too much work I think.

Hi,
i am just curious in y the prize pool is so low most of the $$ is less than $300 with only a few 1K+
If i am looking to sponsor some events to make it more exciting where can I go to?
Thanks~

The prize pool is so 'low' for no other reason than that's what is being sponsored. If you're looking to sponsor some events personally, I'm sure there's a ton of organizers that would be more than willing to take your money and turn it into a tournament, or nice tournaments that already exist and would like a boost to their prize pool.
You'd have to contact these individuals (or organizations) personally. If you're serious about it, do some research.

i am just curious in y the prize pool is so low most of the $$ is less than $300 with only a few 1K+
If i am looking to sponsor some events to make it more exciting where can I go to?
Thanks~ The prize pool is so 'low' for no other reason than that's what is being sponsored. If you're looking to sponsor some events personally, I'm sure there's a ton of organizers that would be more than willing to take your money and turn it into a tournament, or nice tournaments that already exist and would like a boost to their prize pool. You'd have to contact these individuals (or organizations) personally. If you're serious about it, do some research.
thanks

New site is great but I am sure people desperately need really fresh information - I`m waiting for the pre-match interviews but there are still none of them although it is already Friday. (oops, the wrong thread, sorry)

Good read. That was a nice sum up to keep in check of what's going on! (^_^)
