[SC2] Liquipedia TV: Strategy Hour #2
August 20th, 2010 14:34 GMT
Stream is over, thanks for watching everyone. Thanks qxc for participating, and flicky for hosting. Thanks to Denotate for the awesome graphics and the Liquipedia nerds for doing everything they do for liquipedia behind the scenes
“I was invited over. You've heard of me?” "Ah yes, Quicksie? Come on in"
Few people get close to the institute. It's big and scary after all. It's fun to read the crazy stuff they come up with, but entering is something that scares many away. The fact that it's at the top of a forboding hill and almost always surrounded by terrible weather is scary enough, although most are probably turned off by the prospect of having to walk up said hill. Either way, this man shall not be deterred. He has a secret that he wants to world to know and these people are the ones who want to help him out. Besides, he has bought a packed lunch and is going to stop for a rest.
Time to ignore those burning calves, stop looking at the painting that seems to be watching you and enter.
After another hard days work probing the heart of e-Science and seeing what it complains about, the Liquipedia research centre have un-earthed another treat and hypnotised persuaded an upstanding citizen to share his secrets! Yes, it is the return of the Liquipedia Strategy Hour!
Our very own flicky will be joined by a famous StarCraft2 player. Together they’ll dissect a build order, explaining what fits where and how exactly it works. Over one hour of delectable chunks of StarCraft edutainment for you to chew on and enjoy.
For our second iteration, we have a player who has rooted himself (get it?) at the top of the American scene, Qxc will be with us and will be walking us through a TvT, Ghost First build, from the first depot, how to make your Ghost a hero and how to transition into mid game builds and on! That's right, it's a Qxc double header weekend!
For those playing along at home, here’s the build: practice it and prepare your questions!
After the Ghost is done - pump marauders and research Stim-pack.
The aim is to attack with your first Marine and Ghost with the aim to snipe any defending marines and harass the SCVs. You can also bring some SCVs with you on this push to assist with a Bunker or just by attacking.
While your attack is happening, get a tech lab on your second Barracks and build marauders and research Stim to defend any counter push. From here, you can get a third barracks, expand or whatever else, it's up to you!
During the show, we will be discussing its variations, transitions and a bit about the development of the build. Afterwards, we will be taking questions from the viewers. Join #liquipedia on IRC and submit your questions to one of the channel operators.
As for us, I suppose we best put out that fire. So long!
The Liquipedia Staff
Don't forget! qxc will also be on Team Liquid Attack! at Saturday, Aug 21 6:15pm GMT (GMT+00:00)

This looks awesome, but wouldn't the current time overlap with Weapon of Choice? The different shows should really try to adapt with eachother, cos they're all awesome!
|
ugh just got this build used on me, read this, guy used exact build. noooooooooo
|
Ghost and snipe = a great game every time.
|
Wow what an innovative build. I'm really looking forward to picking qxc's brain about this one. Where does someone come up with such a unicorn build anyway?
|
Nice, looking forward to this interesting build.

I'm guessing that it is built off the love of the ghost Ghosts are just so awesome, and underused. I have tried an early ghost build and it worked pretty well, and was insanely fun.

I love how much QXC is doing for TL even though he is a member of Root gaming. He is tied for my favorite Terran player right up there with TLO

Could look at as TL being amazing getting top players to do community events for TL.

uhhh... what happens when they wall in?

It's my standard to wall in with a bunker in TvT. I think I would be safe... yes?

Looking at this build it looks too all-in. 1 marine and 1 ghost can kill the defending marines but they'll probably have a hellion or tank out and then its over, 2 units won't stop their defense and then a few scv's get pulled big deal
they'll be set up for the midgame with a probable 1-1-1 setup while you have a ghost academy laying around, and 2 racks and a late factory and even later starport. This'll cause you to lose your air control late game.
Basically I guess I'm saying this'll work against bad terrans, and not work against good terrans. but if you're a better terran than them you might as well stick to standard.
|
And my opponents always wonder why I have a raven. It's because I am a raver.
|
Does the ghost strat work vs mech?
|
A tank or bunker owns this, maybe I'm doing it wrong.
|
I copied this build from a replay of him vs silver on the root website, I really like it. Snipe is useful vs marines and maurauders (and scvs), emp vs cloaked banshees, and 20 damage to light is ok vs banshee. The maurauders deal with tanks and other maurauders. First tvt I ended up playing after seeing the build was vs qxc himself. He scouted it and obviously knew how to deal with his own build, and raped it with 2port banshee. A small handful of ghosts can't fight mass banshees without turret support. Against a few banshees the ghosts are great, but the banshees costing less gas (and not being hit by maurauders at all) just beat ghosts alone after a certain point.
edit: to the people questioning the build, it's not an all-in. It's a strong versatile opening that lets you secure a quick expansion with a good army foundation useful throughout the game. You can be as aggressive as your opponents allow with it. If they're too passive you just keep expoing and adding rax.

Just to update, this will be moved back one hour to start at 20:00 GMT (+00:00)!
Tune in after Weapon of Choice!

early marauders, a viable counter? As those early marauders are pretty good for countering a reaper rush... The HP of a handful marauders, may be too much for the ghost to snipe, granted this strat is supreme in most situations.
|
I feel like TLO tried something similar to this in the IEM against Morrow. It didn't seem like it worked out really well, but I am intrigued.

I see what you're saying, that potentially someone who started making maurauders the whole time and never put money into ghosts might be able to just outmass the other, but bare in mind maurauders will only do 10 damage to a ghost (and vice versa), and that snipe is only 25 energy (it does 45 damage). Two ghosts with 3 snipes each have 200 hp (20 maurauder shots) to tank with, and can deal 270 damage very quickly with the snipes alone. And the longer the maurauder player waits, the more energy the ghosts have, and the harder it will be for the maurauder player's maurauders to be able to shoot all at once (thus further downplaying his maurauder count advantage).
|
Edit: Im stupid lol. Thinking of something else.
|
I used this against a terran a few days ago who popped up a bunker right away. He was a scrub though so I just went back to my base and waited for my first nuke to pop, then blew open his door with a nuke and a floating barrack as a scout.
A bunker however did negate any early game aggression that I could put on him by protecting his marines.
|
Any VOD's/replays of this working?
Anybody has any experience of this failing, besides from early bunker to protect marine?
|
|
Is anyone else having MAJOR buffering problems?
Edit: Seems to be fixed
|
what map is good for this build?

I forgot to watch .... DJWheat was on ... maybe change the time?

Unfortunately I was unable to watch the beginning or the end (I just caught about 10 minutes in the middle). Since this is a TeamLiquid event, surely there will be a VOD of this, but is there any estimation of when that will be or when it will be posted?

Apologies for the low quality, we didn't have a separate person to record VODs so I had to just take them from my ustream recording. Thank you sir! No worries about the quality, as they are just fine - if you can see it, it's fine! Thanks again for a very cool episode, and hopefully thank you in advance for the many more to come!

Awesome build and strategy. the key seems to be scouting them and hiding your ghost tech well. a tank or bunker can really mess you up
|
I just watched the VOD for this and I must say I was very impressed with the format and content. I really hope we see more and more of these in the future. I love the in-deapth two hour long analysis of a single build so I really understand the build, counters and viability.

|
brilliant show! good job aesop/crew
|
I have a question if someone can answer:
What do you do if your opponent walls off? Do you immediately shift into marauders and try to break the wall?
|
When you guys do mass-snipes are you hot-keying snipe on every shot or using shift queuing? My problem is sometimes I'll attack move and then attempt to shift-queue a bunch of shots and of course they never go off.
|
what qxc mean by stutter stepping with rine or ghost, is that the same as kiting?
nvm answered in part 5
|
If they wall off consider them contained. This is not an all in where you have to go in and do damage as he says in the interview. Back out and if he is doing a marine+tank push your maruader + ghost should win. If he does banshee same thing. That covers 99 perc of tvt. Remember it's an opening not an overall strat though good to keep using ghosts through out the game...you do have the tech.
