They just wanted some additional income so they decided to resort to illegal gambling. Starcraft players practice like 15 hours a day and make close to nothing. It's not like they were using hacks or cheating in the game, they were just losing on purpose to make more money. Obviously this isn't really healthy for the industry as a whole, but still on a personal level I don't see anything wrong with it. Maybe they shouldn't have chosen to become progamers then. If you want to play games for a living, you'd better like playing games for a living. There is a contract between you and your employer to perform, and they just failed it (also dealt with gangsters apparently lol). It's basically theft, you're taking money while deliberately not doing what you're supposed to get that money for. Do you not see why betraying your sponsor thousands of fans is not a moral thing to do? Or, to get back to the money, do random immigrants working 10 hours a day washing dishes get to throw games? No one starts off being a progamer with the plan of throwing games, you become a progamer because you love the game (or that you are good at it), then realize that it doesn't make you as much money as you wanted (whether that is because you aren't good enough to win titles for money, or that your peak is over and might as well make some money while you can), that is where you start throwing games. It is not tough to realize that the career span of a sc progamer isn't long and your peak is usually even shorter (a year or 2 maybe?). Being an sc progamer leaves these kids with virtually nothing when they retire, they are far behind in school, studies and trust me when I say majority of sc progamers will not have made enough money during their sc career to support 5 years of living expenses after they retire. As a fan yes, certainly fixing games is unethical but I think this speaks more to the state of progaming as a career more than anything, now if similar things happened to top division soccer leagues in Europe (like premiership in england or seria A in italy), where players make millions (euro/us) a year yes I would be infuriated. But people need to be more forgiving to sc progamers. Of course all this is based on my understanding that an average sc progamer (those who dont win OSLs/MSLs) makes around $10,000ish or less a year, but their living expenses are covered. This is really not a lot of money for a career that has like a 5 year lifespan.

But on an uplifting notes having read his interviews I seriously doubt his character would allow something like this.
