Endgame
Acrofales gazed upon the destitute state of Liquidia from his bedroom window.
"There is nothing left," he muttered to himself. He pulled up a worn-out photograph, one that barely left his hand by the end of it all. On it, Trfel, Blazinghand, [UoN]Sentinel, Chezinu without a hat and Oatsmaster stood surrounding Acrofales, smiling at the camera without a care in the world. Tubesock and Damdred were barely visible in the background, dancing around, laughing as well.
Simpler times. Times long past. [UoN]Sentinel's betrayal still stung but barely, absently. Sometimes, Acrofales even understood his decision, much as it had hurt Liquidia. In his worst hours though, his thoughts revolved around Damdred, the man he killed himself.
Things would never be the same again.
It was over.
Acrofales discarded the memento of his fallen friends and instead brought up his gun. The one he used to erroneously slay Damdred. He had told everyone he was out of bullets, but this was untrue. There was one left. But Acrofales had known from the beginning for whom that bullet was reserved. At last, he brought the revolver to his chin and smiled.
Acrofales, the Town Lurker Vigilante has been killed. (Can only shoot players that have not voted or were below the minimum activity requirement during the last dayphase) Tubesock, the Vanilla Townie has been killed. Mocsta, the Vanilla Townie has been killed.
At 6 town players to 5 mafia players, even a correct lynch will be followed by 2 mafia KP, which town have no way of stopping.
Endgamed:
Onegu, the Vanilla Townie LightingStrike, the Vanilla Townie ExO_, the Vanilla Townie Meapak_Ziphh, the Vanilla Townie Alakaslam, the Vanilla Townie Fecalfeast, the Town Mad Hatter
Victory goes to the Mafia team:
BloodyC0bbler, the Mafia Roleblocker (rip) Jockmcplop, the Mafia Backup Roleblocker Pandain, the Mafia Day Vig darthfoley, the Mafia Godfather Mr. Wiggles, the Mafia One-Shot Doctor Rels, the Mafia Mason [UoN]Sentinel, the Mafia Traitor (rip)
Obs QT: Here Mafia QT: Here Mason QT: Here
Stay tuned for Blazinghand's post-game analysis!

Ya I actually did suck this game I surprised they didn't post in the end game post sooner. Palmar actually nailed 3 members of the scum team.
|
WTF Onegu fake claimed survivor too wtf lmao.
|
there was technically the possibility mafia 1) forgot about the claimed-in-thread hatter, 2) shot him, 3) his bomb's on scum AND 4) they dont RB him.
So we waited for night actions.

Postgame First off, I'm really glad we were able to pull this off. Based on signups from the past 6 months, I wasn't sure if we would be able to fill a 12 player game, yet alone 35. It was a nice surprise to see so many old faces show up. I know there was talk about this being the "last TL Mafia" game, but if there's still interest I'd certainly be happy to host (or play) a couple games a year. TL Mafia has always been a special community that I've been proud to be a part of.
Congrats to Vivax for correctly guessing 4 out of the 5 remaining mafia in the obs QT! Interestingly, everyone in the Obs predicted Rels was mafia, but nobody guessed Pandain.
It has been a while since we've hosted a really large game, so I had to dig pretty far back to find some comparable 35+ player setups. I like closed setups because it tends to make claims more interesting and more difficult to analyze.
The 7 mafia to 28 town ratio felt best from a balance perspective, but we downgraded one of the mafia members to a traitor in exchange for a favorable kp formula and a mafia day vig, which is really quite powerful. The was also the day 1 double lynch to take into account from a mislynch # perspective. For those who were wondering, the traitor was not aware of the mafia team, but once per game they could guess the identity of the traitor and if they were correct, they were granted access to the mafia QT. The mafia team guessed Oats on N1.
In really large games like this, the backup roles feel nice because it makes the power role actions more predictable if one of the blue roles dies really early in the game. Unfortunately for town, they lost both the cop, the backup cop, the doctor, and the veteran in the first cycle. That's pretty much the worst case scenario.
I know several people felt that the setup used the term "normal" a bit too liberally, but overall I don't think it was too crazy. Backup roles are classified as normal on the mafia scum wiki and we've had traitors in more than 20 games, though I admit they have been less common in the last couple years.
The two most uncommon roles were the mafia mason and town lurker vig, which have both been used in past games. I feel like the mason doesn't really affect balance that much, it's more of a skill check type role.

The lurker vig was inspired by this post from Palmar. As Meapak pointed out, this role was initially used in Responsibility Mafia many years ago. I was pleased that activity was pretty consistent. Not having to modkill any players in a large game was quite surprising.

There's an interesting observation to be made from Blazinghand's post about filter size after day one. The 11 most active players were ALL town and no mafia player had a filter larger than 6 pages. There are obviously exceptions, but I'd bet that's a pretty reliable metric to go by most game. With all the infighting between townies, mafia never felt particularly pressured to post. There were a few townies who were on the right track, but with all the noise it was nearly impossible to focus enough attention on any of the mafia players to get them lynched.
Palmar had the most accurate reads on day one, but wasn't in a position to convince anyone. While HF shares some of the blame for the day 1 lynch, I wouldn't put the outcome of the first couple cycles solely on him. His intentions were rather clear for who he would lynch and the majority of players went along with it. I'm not particularly sure what BH's intentions were during the first couple cycles, but it probably would have been better to simply afk if you weren't able to participate. By requesting a lynch, you made yourself at the center of attention and it made things difficult for town to gain any traction early on.
There were a couple wacky role claims from town that probably weren't necessary. Chezinu suggesting he was a mad hatter as a veteran was especially unfortunate since not only did it draw out the actual hatter, but it discouraged mafia to ever consider shooting him. Onegu claiming survivor seems to be an unnecessary lie, but I don't dare question Onegu.
It wasn't all bad from town though. There were several players who were clearly town, even if they didn't have the best reads this game. Tumble had a great shot on BC that could have been game changing if town was able to pull off a lynch earlier to reduce the mafia kp down to 2.
Mafia played very well as a team. Their night actions were spot on. While they weren't the most vocal players, they still played a role in steering the lynch when needed. I think Rels in particular did a good job at pushing the mafia objective in the thread during the last couple cycles, without resorting to busing his teammates unnecessarily. Wiggle's radio show was hilarious and he was able to pull off the role play without falling into the trap of never providing any reads. Jock was really impressive for his first game and fooled a bunch of people. I think he did an especially good job at feigning ignorance in certain situations and asking questions as if he were a townie.
I was surprised Pandain was able to get away with the day vig shot on Holyflare so easily. Sure HF was one of the main lynch candidates the previous cycle, but I think a number of players were finally coming around to the possibility that he might be town. I think Mocsta analyzed it well when he questioned why AMG would be so willing to hold onto the day vig shot on D2 if he were town. Sent did a good job pulling off the traitor role by drawing attention and avoiding a night hit. Keeping the mafia kp at 3 for as long as possible is especially beneficial. DF obviously had more important things to worry about, but wasn't too much of a handicap (no pun intended). BC got carried as usual.
Thanks for playing everyone! Special thanks to Dandel for co-hosting. I'm not sure what the future has in store, but it has been a pleasure! ^_^

Thanks to hosts for the game, and to everyone who took the time to play, GG!
I will say I had fun with the Dead Zone Show and interacting with everyone via it, even though I wasn't using it to find very many scum haha.
If anyone has questions about anything I did or that I can answer about the scum team, ask away
