Well, this is why we can't keep judges separate from the thread entirely if we try a setup like this again. Damdred's idea may just be the best one. Make everyone a player and judges pick pools for power-ups, not lynches.
The judges were awesome this game. Great reads compared to their town counterparts, very active (other than Night 2 which was weekend). And players presumed they must be afk, or mafia was picking pools, because the reads didn't line up with theirs. Eh. I see no way around that presumption without interaction, and frustration on all sides, unfortunately

was batting around the idea in my head of a regular-length D1
keep the judges but they alternate...D1 pick lynch pool, D2 pick power-up pool (so D1 players give power-up to whoever without restrictions, D2 players lynch whoever without restrictions)
nights the judges can post in thread so they can be influenced etc.
person can't get a power-up consecutive days
problem is, i hear you on the rb for scum. i'm just not sure how to give scum an advantage when they win the power-up, and there really should be one. it definitely shouldn't hurt mafia to get it. we thought people would just use the roleblock to kill the guy with the power-up...technically that could confirm someone who won before was mafia, but there's also no guarantee of that. just because someone claims vest in thread and dies doesn't mean they actually took vest, you know? i'd never assume that playing from a town slot. but it doesn't matter if most town does and that happens to be true, because then they can narrow down a scum on faulty logic lol ><
i guess i'm wondering how we could make that work for scum...random thought was recruitment to switch someone's alignment but i'm not sure i really like that either
and ultimately it doesn't seem like people want to play a game where judges have so much control...or any. even these suggestions wouldn't eliminate judge power, just reduce it
lex mentioned removing judges entirely, which is fine, but then it's not really this type of game anymore and that was the experiment
he also mentioned removing power-ups. but then it would be an all-vanilla game with judges? especially if we're reducing the lynches they can narrow, might as well just do an all-vanilla game at that point
maybe it's just better to call it a failed experiment and move on lol >< The idea was fresh and I think it could be used in a themed game for a cycle or something. It's a fun mechanic. It even could be a stand alone game with some extra tweaks.
<3 lex and i were really excited about it and are glad that at least a few of the players enjoyed it
would love help with finding tweaks to make it better and more mafia-esque where the players outside the judges don't feel so powerless

I mostly had fun this game btw. most sad that I was wrong on my top scum (sorry TW) but also that I just spend half the game raging at people (because I thought TW was scum and didnt give two shits about anything else).

ya but it doesn't help town to just shut people down or insult them (oops guilty of that)
the biggest problem this game had was that without HF, we wouldn't have a really clear discussion leader whether people liked him or not, so I was trying to get cop to get off her HF paranoia train and explain her reads.
like I'm almost convinced if HF died D1 that town would just sheep geript and we'd be on a boat straight to mafia clean sweep

yeeeeaahhh...we made a mistake. namely, we were dealing with a separate issue when hf asked about rb notification on the shot, and did not have the context for hf's question. the concession felt highly emotional to me on the back of that announcement in-thread
i by no means think that there was any form of inevitability to the scum loss this game. reads change. who assumes that the lynch pool was all mafia anyway? one more mislynch and judges are out and town loses lynching tumble because only the judges had a good read on him. but i understand the reaction to the rb notification
*in b4 geript/rayn come back with how imbalanced the game was lol >> i agree we could have balanced it better but no, i don't think the setup was the reason for your loss, or the reason for the bad position some of you were in
onegu/eversince did nothing for their slot rayn got caught out early. not setup related at all both rayn and geript showed major face on d2...ritoky's analysis was sexy
that's gameplay, not setup. the setup probably didn't help...but i wouldn't blame it entirely on that

Yeah I think mafia should maybe have played it through. If they push 1 ml after this they get a free ml on TW. I think either Hopeless or Jealous would have entered the pool after this.
Especially with so many townies hard scumreading each other.

well thanks for hosting. 10/10 game, would replace into that again.
*cough* okay more serious like: as i said in scum qt: setup was really really dependant on the judges being good and a lack of interaction with them can make it really hard/frustrating for either town and/or scum. def a cool idea though.
a bit sad about the ragey posts, there were a few in there that were really bad.

If the shot wasn't refunded or notified about rbs then this would have been way fairer.

If i got that response from the host I would have shot rayn and claimed it just before deadline though so the shot wouldn't go through and geript would be confirmed.
Sick plays were coming.

Btw for the people who were mafia:
This game is sooooo mafia favored, town not able to pick, fake actions, you just need to pocket two people voila you have 5 votes garanteed in any wagon.

Haha, I was fine with you being town, otherwise I would've actually challenged Koshi on the read. :p
In retrospect—and rereading our Judge QT with flips—, I feel like we had pretty excellent teamwork. Each of us (judges) had bad reads that were picked up and patched up by the other two. Feels pretty good, man.
