The point of the item is to have baby go to his same alignement mother and the different alignment mother to be executed. Which...I'm a little confused about. It's like a parity checker/murder thing. But it's only really good for the town if we are certain of alignments, right? Unless I'm misunderstanding something, if we aren't sure if someone is scum, how can we be sure we'd be accurate with this item?
You can't be 100% certain. However, no matter how it is used it gives us a ton of info eith.er way. If it ends up killing someone, the other 2 are of the opposing alignment of the dead person. If no-one dies player Y + Z are same alignment.

There are VERY VERY VERY few games where you have investigative roles and NO way to mess with checks. The fact that ONE role can mess with a single target each night does not make checks a massive WIFOM paradise or mostly useless. Do you think that you needed to point out champs that serve no purpose to town, only mafia? Did anyone ever disagree and say those champs have town purposes?
If a game has a framer in nobody would take checks seriously until there's 100% confirmation it wasn't framed. Godfather isn't so bad, it makes town checks unreliable but mafia checks are still useful.
Yes, I did think I needed to as we were discussing bans and I made clear/argued for what I wanted banned.

I don't quite follow. Does it matter how much I'd do to have people lynched afterwards? All that matters is it ends in the hands of a townie. Since the item use is entirely public anyone could follow up on what happens.
For what it's worth, if I had it I'd use it like: baby = scumread, mother x = me, mother y = scumread.
In that case, if I die both are scum, if I was wrong about baby mother Y will die, if I was wrong about mother y or even both no-one dies.
