I'll try to answer it, but could you first clarify either a string of posts / pages for me to refer to, or perhaps the dialogue that you found strange / scummy / (? I'm not sure). I don't really look at interactions unless we get some flips that point me that way.

Bottom of page 24 through page 26. And don't tell me what you usually do when you specifically asked for tricky questions to get your mind in the game, dearest :p

I wasn't making a judgement on their exchange, was just looking to see how you felt about it and why.

Apologies ^.^

What I took out of it was that yamato backed off, so he must have some degree of town read + respect for you (marv) and Hapa. He (yamato) said he will put him (ShiaoPi) on his watch list, which is great because it means more stuff from ShiaoPi and yamato held to higher degree of contribution. Nothing worrisome yet for me.

I like this ObviousOne direction. Let's hammer out some more discussion / focus on him. Here's what caught my eye

What you said is mostly correct, however. He is a good policy lynch if it comes down to one. He mucks up the thread with his random interjections. His tunnels can be beyond paranoid. I don't see a reason to think he's mafia.

Coag, what do you think about Oats and my thoughts regarding him? Are you going to hit-and-run style post all game?

He asks Coag (of all people), about his thoughts on Oats (a town read). If he wanted thoughts on Oats, there were people already talking about it. If he wanted thoughts from Coag, I think there could have been better questions. Do you think this is strange / different / scummy?

@Sloosh:

What part of Obvious' entry made you suspicious?

It's one way you catch scum. For example, Liar Game last year. A game full of TL's finest players, won handily by EchelonTee as mafia. In the post-game, it was pointed out that EchelonTee promised to come down on sandroba if he lurked; sandroba proceeded to lurk, but Echelon never came down on him. People either didn't notice this or didn't pick up on its importance.

I think the point I'm trying to make is that it wasn't a *promise*, it was a statement of what a good townie looks like, importantly made at a time when he was actually making a few posts. He's posting, it looks good, sounds nice. There's not necessarily forethought at that point in time.

And we both know how deliberate a player you are anyway, darling.

It's a tricky one. See instinctively I'd say that trying to engage coag on about anything isn't a terrible idea, and it actually got a response out of coag. It seems early enough on the game that there wasn't that much going on by then to ask him about. I don't think I read that much into that one.

More or less. The general things that caught my eye were ObviousOne's entry and ShiaoPi's entry.

Can you give me a fuller opinion on Shiao (besides his entry of course)?

Umm ... his other posts look better. I like that he is posting on goodkarma, which is "unique" (opposed to going with the flow non contributary post scum sometimes make). I'll wait on reading goodkarma's posts and their interaction before I can give you a better judgement call than that.

Okay, so first of all to answer your question:

@DarthPunk:

I have not played any recent games with ObviousOne, so I don't know why he would be scummy for doing the same as Hapa. Do you have any "proof" to show that a townie ObviousOne should not do this?

@rayn:

I didn't understand whether Oats was seriously referring to his own reasoning as bad. So after he clarified it, I felt like I could understand how he got his reads. Regarding Coag, I really don't like his filter but people seem to simply ignore him (even marv does not take him seriously and he is the target of Coag's lynch campaign) so I prefer to concentrate on people I have played with and whom I might actually read accurately on day 1.

Yeah. THe 'proof' (talking about proof in a game like mafia smh) Is that he spends like most of the first post of the game talking about why oats is town and then in the very next paragraph says he is willing to lynch oates. It makes his town read disingenuous, and i struggle to find how a townie would be willing to lynch someone he spent so much effort establishing as town.

It doesn't make any sense. Hapa did not spend all of his first post calling oates town and then saying he could lynch oates.

This would be logical yes, but I don't rely on mafia to carry through on their promises. Also, as far as I remember no-one else has pulled him up on this until I have so far - maybe he hopes it just looks nice at the time, at a time when he *is* actually making a couple of posts.

In Smurf Obvious posted nicely as mafia but as little as possible, whereas when Obvious is town he actively tries to solve the game.

I think I've talked myself into voting him, he's my best lead for now ^^

##Vote: Obvious

On the rare occasions marv and I agree it means caught scum or a mislynched blazinghand. Wonderful things either way.

We're at about ~5 pages of filter, so you should have enough information to carry this game. What are your thoughts on the players who have posted so far?

Coag and DP are the only people I'm actually worried about at this point.

Talk to me about DP a bit. It usually takes me a while to have a concrete read on him, so I'm surprised you have worries this early.

He just hasn't done anything that would make me swing either way about him. This continued angry-man act is a bit disconcerting.

So you are 'worried about me for no reason' and the only thing you mention is something which i have done consistently as both alignments since the beginning of time.

Why would you mention me at all if you actually had no reason for the read? And what about coag? What has coag done to make you worried?

It's precisely that neither of you have done anything particularly townish at all that worries me. It's obviously early, but I have quite a few soft town reads already.

This makes absolutely no sense. DarthPunk is one of the most notoriously hard-to-read players on TL. Why would him not doing "anything particularly townish" be a cause for concern? Especially when he's incredibly good at acting "townish" as scum?

It's a process of elimination, obviously. I'm not worried about the other people who have posted. I am still perplexed about DP and Coag's alignment. I don't think there's that much to argue about, really. Both of you seem to be admitting to the fact that nothing he has done is alignment indicative.

So what is it exactly that you mean by "worry"? If you think DP is a null read, that's a very odd word choice.

Also, does the bolded imply that you have town-reads on every other person who has posted in this game? Because I find that very hard to believe given the sample-size thusfar.

I have weak town reads on most of the other players in the game, for varying reasons. At the very least, I can ignore them until later in the game when their alignment should be clearer.

Why DP isn't one of those town reads is cause for concern, yes. He's been perfectly readable in the past.

This mentality of "I have a bunch of weak-townreads that I'm just not concerned with" doesn't seem very townie. You seem overly trusting of the situation and lack the natural paranoia that I'm accustomed to seeing in your town-game.

The bolded passage (in the second quote) I find most disconcerting, because weak town reads aren't an excuse not to look at someone early on Day 1. Much less when that list at the time included ObviousOne, sloOsh, and Sylencia (all of whom had 1-4 unsubstantial posts at the time).

2) The way you backed off Shaio doesn't make much sense to me either. You're a player known for very strong-tunnels, and often very willingly confront the opinions of veteran players to push your own thoughts and scum-reads. In the case of Shiao, you backing down from your vote with so little resistance isn't what I associate with your town-meta.

Futhermore, your unvote post...

Shiao's "post architecture" wasn't the only reason you were suspicious of him. By contrast, your suspicions on him started because of another of his posts:

There very clearly was other posting you were "suspicious" of, and it seems like you forgot about the original reasons you were suspicious of Shiao.

This isn't a game about a grudge with Marv - it's a game about finding mafia. Antagonizing people isn't going to get us anywhere.

The problem is that Marv tunnels me in every single game we play together. How is that helpful ever?

DP and hapa are scum.

Please don't be a kushmasta

explain why you think they are town

Cora was so blatant about his icebreaker he even "crumbed it" in his modified song lyrics. If you took his push on Marv seriously you should look at the things that it accomplished:

1. He got conversation in the thread started.
2. He got a vote out of Coag that, while weak in the explanation department, gave us information about Coag.
3. He drew you out into a tunnel that has divulged a lot of information about you
4. Set the stage for a confrontational and questioning town atmosphere
5. Established his towniness all within like 6 pages of the game.
