Newbie Guide! If your not willing to read this, mafia probably isn't the game for you When you dive into the game of mafia, it might seem pretty intimidating. Wall of Text, pages created blistering fast, people with battlecruisers and archon icons posting. Don’t fear! It’s not as scary as it seems. The Basics IRL (In real life) mafia is a different game than Forum Mafia. Although they are based on the same skill set, in forum mafia you are behind a computer screen. Behind the computer screen you can’t see someone’s response. Attempting to pressure someone into making a mistake? They can just type up their posts in MS Word and make sure that they are perfect. But how do you tell if someone is mafia? Analysis This is the most important part of the game. This is how you catch scum. It is incredibly difficult. However, with enough practice and a bit of work, you can do it too! The basic premise is that there are certain ways that someone plays as mafia. Just like the person with the stupid grin after the night happened, there are people who just scream that they are mafia. What is not mafia Bad logic- Unless the bad logic is intentional. Not everyone is as smart as someone who reads LSB’s Newbie guide. Bad posting- Just because someone can’t spell, doesn’t mean the’re mafia What is mafia Bandwagoning- This is a town trait too Trying not to draw attention As you can see. The list is quiet small. Everyone plays their scum game differently. In order to determine if someone is mafia, you’re going to have to go through post history. Tip: if you’re trying to prove someone is mafia, but their posts say otherwise. They’re probably town. I know it’s hard, but sometimes you just have to give up you’re case. Don't insult people and start making enemies. Even if you're arguing with someone, try to be friendly. Maybe chat about something else at the same time. They might be a mafia this game. But next game they might be your teammate. Going Inactive Not posting/Not voting destroys the game, hands mafia the victory, and gets you banned. Just don't do it Ruining the Game Don’t give up, (unless your mafia). Don’t give up your teammates if your mafia. Other people are actively trying to hunt out the mafia. If he's a good scum hunter, then he is the best choice for town. At this point, I don't think the town wants to take a risk on electing anti-town, and I don't have the time to prove that i'm anti-town. I submit my campaign, but I hope that people with protection abilities will seriously consider me for protection. That is yet another convolution that irc will bring to the process. (although if we caught someone impersonating it would make it pretty obvious they were scum...so a potential for reward if a scum were to be so bold as to impersonate someone) I think the real problem with the irc is that there is such a thing as too much information when you are trying to make a decision. If we have pages and pages of posts and pages and pages of irc logs to go by, 2 sides could make bulletproof arguments for one person being scum/not scum, and it could be almost impossible to tell who was right with any sort of objectivity. Also....picking through irc logs sounds really tedious. I know that has no importance in the function of the game, but I just feel it will be less fun with a mountain of irc logs...and I kinda want to have fun. Don't sweat it. People want to lynch me for not tunneling others.  | ||

Don't lose sight of these things when I'm gone. 1) Bum is almost certainly confirmed blue at this point so he'd be a great mayor 2) Watch the people from the item game, there's gonna be anti town players in there and if we can isolate and kill them that'll be a boon for the town. 3) Watch Coag and Jackal, not liking either of them atm because of Coag's confirm on Jackal and Jackal's sudden opposition to Bum. 4) Kav and GM are probably town, read previous games they were in and this is how they acted when town. Also I haven't really seen anything overtly scummy out of them yet. 5) Start pressuring lurkers! There are a lot of people with low to no posts and we should take a look at them. In perticular I'd like Eiii, Amber[LighT], Beneather, orgolove, and OriginalName to post some and tell us what they're thinking. | ||

if you are a red, you want to take down the blacks. you know that a blue's interests are split between killing red and black. not ONLY red. if you are a red, the only night harm you have is from the blacks (other than vig etc). so you have an incentive to wait. if bum is a red, then a real blue knows that the blue team (as empowered greens, essentially) has 4 players to take down 10. A ONE FOR ONE TRADE IS A BAD TRADE FOR A BLUE IN A GAME WITH 10 "SCUM" AND 20 NONSCUM. bum knows this. the black team cant know if bum is red or blue here (if he isnt black) and the red team cant know if bum is black or blue (if he isnt red). the existence of the second scum team makes this entire logic very different than it would otherwise be. the fact one scum team is bulletproof also fucks with the logic. it is not so ironclad that a lack of a CC means bum is a blue. that is all i am arguing. i am also arguing that bum got an alignment PM and not a role PM, so his claim that there is "more to the cops except a PM circle" is very very very suspicious. further, this could be a play to draw medic help knowing he is a red/black and he might as well just steal a medic. who knows. many ways that bum can not be honest here. all of the above can be added to the fact that i have proven earlier the logic behind giving mayor to an item game player. item game players are already going to be the first kill targets at night. we need to have the chance to give us as good a chance to win item game as the black team has. tl;dr not counterclaiming bum, but the fact no CC exists doesnt mean he is a blue, and in fact it makes logical sense for there to not be a CC. also, vote an item game player mayor, even if not me. but vote me <3 | ||

You'd have to ask him that. I know I don't trust anybodies alignment atm no matter how blue they say they are. My opposition to Bum was from waking up at 5 and reading the thread and seeing Hai Gaiz I'm Blue!!!! My initial reaction was bullshit. I posted my initial reaction. That post said bullshit. 8 hours later and my reaction has moved from bullshit to bull. I don't trust him. I have no reason to trust him. I don't know who is on the blue team. So I have no inherent trust in nameless faces. The man just got killed by letting his role slip in a PM circle in XXXVII. Night 1 boom he's gone. And he does it again a week later??? Sorry. I'm not buying what he's selling. I might be wrong but on night 0 I'm going to lean towards the side that my gut reaction had. That reaction was bullshit. If that makes me scummy in your eyes I'm sure you'll get over it. | ||
