Oh, it wasn't this thread, it was in the general discussion. There weren't too many people saying that, but while I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a joke, mixed doubles is definitely still sort of "broken" in my humble opinion. If it's not this thread it might've been in the other general olympic discussion, but imagine pairing a professional and a 12 year old and tell them to compete for a gold medal. Obviously this is more extreme but in principal it's basically the same thing. Both teams just target the girl and that's the whole game. It's just silly to tie arbitrary rules to the participating competitors, in this case having to be a girl and a guy each. | ||

I'm all for gender equity and having mixed events, but honestly I agree entirely. The games are just stupid. Perhaps it could work for time based competitions. Say a team swimming event with equal numbers men and women, or a mixed double sculls event in the rowing perhaps. In the more directly competitive sports however, it always becomes a question of targeting the women. That's fine for social indoor netball, or hockey (both of which I very much enjoy playing), but they're completely unsuited for an Olympic event. | ||

For entertainment value though it's hilarious! It does look like Murray is playing with a little girl. He doesn't really give a crap but for her this is like her lifes dream. Whenever the woman on the other team has to serve to Murray it's always a good laugh too. | ||
