Haha i was oddly intrigued by handball as well. At first i just thought the arena was visually appealing so i started watching it then I found myself glued to it for some reason. Seems fun. I don't think anyone in America even knows such a sport exists. We should get into it!

This olympics has been filled with controversial judges decisions.
Russian winning over Mongolian in bullshit decision in Judo, I believe there was another controversial decision in female judo tournament in first day, which the female judoka threw a fit. Korean swimmer getting DQed over nothing, bullshit decision in fencing, etc...
We are only in Day 3 of olympics and yet, so many controversies.
UK olympics has been a step backwards compared to Beijing 2008 so far.
Shame.

France have a bigger population and many more pools, to the aussies I tip my hat. We sucked for a loooooooong time at swimming; hell until the last decade :D And we don't have that much of a bigger population; just saying that it's not really the deciding factor compare to culture/momentum. We will still win on the medal count, usually fourth is pretty good for GB. They were hoping to beat Russia this time but based on the first few days it looks unlikely. Cav, Adlington, Armistead, Daley/Waterfield could all have golds already ability wise. We still got a bunch of rowing and cycling to come up. I doubt we will golds in much or anything else though this time round =/. Mo Farah? Didn't know he existed. Wait what? He is one of the best athletes from your country and you didn't know about him? o.O I guess I missed the memo.... But I haven't heard him mentioned once on the BBC and I've watched everyday of the olympics so far oO.
Wow. That's really surprising to me, as the guy is a heavy favorite for gold in both the 5000m and 10000m races as has been on an absolute terror in the last year and a half or so. He has only lost 2 or 3 races and got silver in the 10000m at the world championships and gold in the 5000m.
I know it isn't quite track and field time yet...but I would've have thought especially in GB he would have been reasonably mentioned/discussed.

Think it's all a matter of whether or not PE teachers start teaching it in elementary school and people start up leagues of their own. I remember when lacross started getting popular in the US, it didn't look that hard to start it up, you just needed people who were willing to advertise it.

It's an attempt to dissuade teams from lodging appeals for random things. Everyone involved is very emotionally invested into the competition and will try to protest anything to get an advantage. I don't know the exact procedure for the Olympics but sometimes these payments are just deposits and are given back if you win the appeal.
Yeah too many appeals would probably exist. I'm pretty sure it is a deposit that they get back if an overruling is made.

I only knew of its existence other than from the Olympics because I played it in gym class in junior high school and loved it. It was the most fun sport we played all year.

Haha i like how swimming prodigy Yi Shiwen got into swimming.
"Miss Ye began her illustrious career when she was plucked from a primary school classroom. Teachers in China are trained to look out for pupils with promising physical attributes and noticing the seven-year-old had unusually large hands and long legs, her teacher alerted the local government sports officials."
China sure knows how to cultivate and churn out those medal winners.

Shattering a personal best by as much as she did and annihilating everyone else at her age is suspicious no matter what. The Olympics are almost constantly in the midst of trying to catch dopers, just how it is. Bolt is a physical specimen though, at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if he doped. Kinda sad.

Haha Phelps breaking every world record might have been a bit fishy if he and every other swimmer in the 08 Olympics weren't wearing those OP super speed swimsuits. Those things were banned within 2 years.

That is funny. I don't recall Phelps suddenly taking 5 seconds off his personal best times when he was winning.

Just about every athlete uses PEDs, that's just how it is. Anyone who doesn't think so needs to wake up.

Even more relevant is her last split in the 400m IM. Last 100m .03 slower than Lochte, with the last 50m FASTER than Lochte did in his own 400m IM. Bottom line is this means that YE had significantly more in the tank, quite possibly multiple seconds or more.
I'm certainly not going to accuse her of doping but there is no doubt it is eyebrow raising to say the least.
