[S3 Worlds] Quarterfinals - Page 204

Two things as public notice:
1. + Show Spoiler [Quarterfinals 1 spoiler] +
Congrats to Fnatic, they played superbly and glgl to them in the Semis!
No one is saying that Fnatic only won because of the level 1 in Game 3. Please keep the nationalistic statements out of our subforum.

2. Riot's Worlds format is atrocious. Let's not beat a dead horse here. I will certainly be talking to Riot's eSports dept about it in the near future.

I simply ask everyone to be civil. Humble in victory, graceful in defeat.
Enjoy the games~

Just watched Leaguepedia's interview with xPeke from tonight and he said they scrimmed a lot against OMG and they did pretty well. I remember that some TL-ers said in the group stage thread that OMG completely crushed Fnatic in scrims. I'm not believing any scrim reports again without match history, this happens way too often.

Well yes. Scrim reports usually can't be backed up with match history with the common practice of leaving during the game to prevent it from showing up. Though also, Scrims can't tell performance on the world stage, given how often TSM brags about doing well in scrims. <__<;

TBH, I expect Fnatic to be a top contender. Either SKT1, Fnatic, or the Chinese teams are currently the only ones whom seem strong enough to win the finals.

Have yet to see Royal though, and Gama Bears with their op logo could end up 4-0ing the Koreans.

I feel cheated in the C9-Fnatic match

Anyone remember the GOM TV bo5 Jaedong vs Bisu showmatch about 5-6 years ago where it was 2-2 and we had just seen some of the most epic PvZ ever...... then in the 5th game Bisu doesn't hold-position his probe allowing 6 lings into his base and loses.

Yeah. So anticlimatic

Rooting for Fnatic to take it all now

I think C9 is yet another team that got hurt by meta shifts. In NA it was impossible to ban/pick them out because Meteos had Elise/ZAC/Nasus (Plus Eve/Nocturne), Balls has his Rumble, Hai played all the Assassins (save Kassadin) before they got popular enough for everyone to ban and spam them, plus the utility botlane.

I think Fnatic is just a better team regardless, but when things like Corki/XX become a thing, utility botlanes are harder to pull off, and of course Hai's champ pool basically consists of common bans. Also, inferior competition (or champ pool restriciton) seems to have hampered their development, because the Nocturne picks for Meteos never made sense.

There were match histories posted for 2 of them the day people discovered the worlds 'smurfs.' Neither game looked close at all. Now compound that with the fact that xPeke may not be completely forward about the scrims, and the additional fact that #scrimsdontmeanshit, and it doesn't really matter what the fuck he said about them(or anyone else).

The anti-climax. It was so, damn, sad.

Why C9, whyyyy. It was building up so much hype. And then level 1 2-0 and everything goes downhill.

Ugh.

I think at this point that OMG vs. SK Telecom seems like that most likely final matchup. And I'd be totally okay with it.
fnatic making the final would be great too, as it has so many storylines (season 1 champions, western team, general exciting playstyle)

Honestly, it would have depended upon what group they placed in. Group A, probably not, but they might've had a shot in Group B because of how loose Ozone played, not to mention Gambit were also kinda shaky at times.

Honestly, I think c9's biggest issues were that they came in too cold and lacked international tournament play. If they'd been around more (ie., existed as a team before Summer Split), or participated in more international events, they probably would have won game 1 (as they lost g1 due to an unusual case of indecision) and never gotten into that game 3 situation.

We can't tell how good they would be with proper international experience, but I think we can agree on that 8 games (or, 6, really, since playing 2 games againts GGEU or Mineski is hardly an "experience") wouldn't have mattered anything.

TSM, CLG, Dignitas - these are the NA teams with enough international experience, to don't get caught with their pants off. And we all know the irony of this...

Edit: and Curse, sorry. Forgot they even exist.

Curse? International experience? What?

Only thing I remember was them traveling over to China to get whooped by second/third tier Chinese teams. Newly formed ones too, I believe.

Was there ever any interview that said why Cloud 9 kept banning out Ori? No offense to Xpeke but his assassin play is a million times better then his Ori play. Also seems weird that they feared Cyanide's Aatrox so much. I guess they were just too worried about early tower dives? Because jungle Aatrox end game if he doesn't get fed isn't very strong at all imo.

I thought banning C9 Ori was so they could simultaneously dive in without being punished although FNC getting Zyra was a good enough alternative

still C9 probably out mind gamed themselves banning Ori instead of something more FNC specific

Man if you combined the strategy and shotcalling of C9 with the mechanical skill of the CLG roster it'd be such a damn good team.

Better record against KR teams than TSM!

i dont think they wouldve made it out of groups

I agree. Both groups were pretty killer. SKT T1 and OMG were virtually guaranteed to make it out of A. Group B was more of a toss-up, but Fnatic played ridiculously well. Gambit also played very well and Ozone, despite a disappointing showing are probably still better than NA teams, including C9.

Group B would have been a lot more interesting with C9 in it. Even if they didn't make it out of the group they would have played the role of spoiler.

Feels like NJBS's Nidalee+Nunu team comp was pre-planned counter to Eve+Shen combo. The increased movespeed, nidalee spear poke and mass pink wards made them extremely safe against a Eve flank. The renekton was a pick for Expession to just win lane and get the snowball rolling imo.

Expession did not live up to my expectations, while PraY did. I guess he is still holds the key to victory for Najin Black Sword. When did PraY and Uzi play before? At All-Stars, it was Weixiao.

NJBS wasn't nearly as good as I expected them to be. I wouldn't favour them over Royal or OMG based on this series. However, Expession hasn't shown much of his potential yet.

a little sad that losing one series makes everyone dismiss c9/na. vulcun could have made it out of groups if they weren't the throwbargains. really would have liked to see c9 play a korean team.

I wouldn't take stock in scrims between teams in worlds. Everyone is going to hide their real strength. Imo scrims between worlds teams and non worlds teams is a better measure. That's why I find the njs vs ig scrim rumors to be huge, especially since it's ig hyping up njs.
