Two things as public notice:

Congrats to Fnatic, they played superbly and glgl to them in the Semis!
No one is saying that Fnatic only won because of the level 1 in Game 3. Please keep the nationalistic statements out of our subforum.


2. Riot's Worlds format is atrocious. Let's not beat a dead horse here. I will certainly be talking to Riot's eSports dept about it in the near future.

I simply ask everyone to be civil. Humble in victory, graceful in defeat.

Re-watch the pivotal G1 fight (at OMG's t2 mid), Uzi actually cleanses absolutely nothing.

What actually happens:
-Caitlyn plays absolutely standard for the first bit, hitting Lee cause he's the only person in range and Uzi is completely safe.
-Lee flashes to safety at low HP, Uzi flashes after him for the kill, losing half his health in the process (he flashed into a rocket and Orb of Deception)
-Jax goes HAM as fuck and flash leaps onto Uzi, he flashes nets away but not before being stunned. Jax uses ignite on Caitlyn right as he dies (26:12)
-Uzi walks right into an Ahri charm. Luckily Lucky has jumped Ahri and she didn't aim her Q with her E or he would have died right here.
-He's charmed for the full duration, but now Corki is on him so he uses Cleanse at 26:15. So he saved himself from 2/5ths of the Ignite damage and nothing else (no CC at all).
-He then dodges the Corki missile that would have killed him, which is honestly his only interesting play of this whole fight

The Cleanse in this fight was actually terrible. Honestly this fight is all about Jax going HAM and his team not really being on the same page, nothing Uzi did was significant. I have no idea why San used Valkyrie like that either, even if he did kill Caitlyn with the missile, it made no sense, cost him an auto-attack for no gain.

On a side-note, does anyone else wish there was a lot more super-slow-motion analysis of teamfights? They've got that cool touchboard thing but they don't really go into that much detail.

The great part about this play that you miss completly is the decision by Uzi not to cleanse jax's stun. Anyone else would have cleanse panicked and died to the rest of ignite charm or other random stuff. He held onto it and baited half the enemy team to die for nothing

To really understand what makes Uzi so amazing, you have to look at Royal's playstyle.

Look at the drafts from these 2 games. Jarvan, Annie, Vlad, Renekton. Zed, Sona, Rumble, Elise. These teams have very little peeling power for their AD. They are entirely about offensive pressure. Especially given how the team uses virtually all of their disables offensively, there's no peeling at all for Uzi. He essentially relies 100% on the chaos and offensive threat of the frontline to create space for him to do damage. At a glance, it makes a lot of sense, but you have to realize that this leaves NO room for error on the part of the AD. If the AD fucks up, the team has zero way to bail him out because every disable is used offensively. The team didn't even run any Exhausts in either of the two games. They essentially have 100% confidence that Uzi can entirely fend for himself. Almost no other AD in the world can play so reliably and with so few errors that their team could have that kind of confidence.

Note that this is actually totally different from the type of "multi-threat" playstyle you might see from Fnatic, T1, or OMG. It's the same overall paradigm, but there's a major difference. In those teams, the primary threats are the divers. If Puzsu, Piglet, or San get caught, the team can rely on Faker+Impact, Cool+Gogoing, or xPeke+sOAZ to be able to clean up afterwards, and this does happen. With Royal, this just isn't a question. They don't worry about "what happens if Uzi gets caught" because they trust that Uzi won't get caught.

This is actually part of the dramatic change that Royal underwent in the middle of LPL Summer, exemplified by the Fizz+Annie teamcomp, but in general shows a different way in which they approach their team's playstyle. It used to be that the team would put all their eggs in one basket on Uzi--Lucky would overly devote effort to ganking bot lane, Godlike and Wh1t3zz would pick overly defensive picks like mid Malphite, and in general, they just sort of wouldn't have any offensive pressure other than hoping Uzi could do everything. With Tabe back on the team, they more or less learned to trust Uzi, and play these multi-threat diving teamcomps. They could rely on Uzi to make use of the offensive pressure, and trust him not to make the positioning errors that an AD on that kind of team can be punished for, and have been much more successful overall.

Royal has as much in common with CLG that SKT1 has with TSM.
