[IEM] Season 6 Championship - Page 4
Forum Index > LoL Tournaments |
At any point of IEM Season 6 Championship, if you think of an interesting byline, please drop a sentence in the Pro Scene thread. At the end of the month, I'll catalogue the results of Hannover but also any interesting facts or events that happen over the course of the tournament. Thanks. Neo, 06.03.2012

While in Europe we tend to look more at the current form and capabilities of a team than the past results. And it is true, the "best" team in LoL changes at least on a monthly basis. Thats why I also think that looking at results from half a year ago does not make much sense. I also agree that aaa is the best Eu team at this moment, maybe together with CLG.eu. This. You dont get to be called good until you DO something. People tried to argue aAa was a favorite before Kiev, then they sucked dick. Then they tried the same thing before Kings, and again, they sucked dick. You have to PROVE you are worth something before you get to become a favorite or an A tier team. Based on past results, aAa is securely a b tier team. There is a REASON you play the games. Right now, aAa has yet to prove that they are capable of actually beating a good team on a big stage. You cannot POSSIBLY argue that. Scrims and Go4lols dont mean ANYTHING. If they do well at Hannover, then yes, they will be deserving of the hype. But you cant be the best team in Europe without actually WINNING anything. User was warned for this post

You have very selective reading: http://season-one-championship.na.leagueoflegends.com/match/fnaticmsi-vs-aaa-championship-match Same lineup minus - kuja (now with m) +nRated. At kiev they were playing without Moma. I don't know what more do you want beside 2nd place in the most important tournament of season 1. They played on the big stage and they beat the good teams.. Also please watch your language. aAa didn't suck dick at kiev or KoE.

That said, I will give aAa more credit than Two_DoWn has. Scrim results may not garner as much respect as tournaments results but you can't totally ignore them either. M5 was touted as best in EU before Kiev and they brought it full force. If aAa continues to play like they have in the recent two weeks, they should yield their best offline placement yet imo.

Also please watch your language. aAa didn't suck dick at kiev or KoE. That tournament was almost 9 months ago, so I don't see how that equates to aAa being a top team now. CLG.eu and M5 have played at very high level the last two tournaments (KoE and Kiev). RIGHT NOW, aAa is on the outside looking in, which they can easily fix by their performance in this tournament, so if the argument is that they are better, then clearly they will show it this week. But if the argument is that aAa is the best team in Europe right now (before this tournament) that I'm afraid I don't see much evidence to that end. Where you place them on a "tier" is completely arbitrary, In my mind Tier A right now are THE best CLG.eu and Moscow 5, based on their performance lately in tournaments. Every other team is Tier B, good, but not as good as the teams in Tier A. Looking at it this way, Tier A are the two teams that are the best, and are pretty even both on skill level and recent performances, Tier B is a bunch or really good teams like aAa and SK and Sypher and Fnatic that are clearly very talented, but have under-performed recently against the Tier A teams. At the end of the day you're arguing about a fairly arbitrary distinction based on "Tiers" something that is totally subjective anyway. The beauty of it is that the tournament is only days away, so we'll actually be able to see EXACTLY how good aAa is against the top level of competition. I only with that CLG.eu was here as well, but alas, they are too new.

I mean current commentators are fine and all but id say it would be a lot better with one guy who really knows the game. And for this tournaments there's loads of pro players who aren't competing. If you watched IPL4 qualifier with dan dinh you know what i mean Because LoL isn't old enough where you have a large number of "pros" retire and go into ESPORTS production. You have to realize that both Tasteless and Artosis played BW for 5+ years before they retired and went into casting. Only person currently that would remotely fit the bill would be Jatt and he quit due to school. Guys like Dan Dinh and Chauster, they shoutcast for IPL because they live very close to San Francisco. It's something they do for fun. But to cast as a job like Tastosis, it would take a lot of time and preparation.

Yes, i see... but ESL is the biggest LoL tourney and it only happens once every few months (its not like GSL where they have to cast almost every week). In any case, im sure they will get someone in the future

All 5 of the official casters either work for ESL (Joe and Deman) or Riot (Zenon, Rivington, and Phreak) so their travel expenses are covered. Joe and Deman also do some other work for ESL (i.e. Joe casts CS) so that helps out even more. I'm not sure how willing ESL/Riot are to pay for the travel and casting time of pro players who would not be at the tournament in the first place.

You can still order the CeBIT HD Pass for only 5.00 Euro. This exclusive bargain is only available until 4th of March. It provides access to five days full of esports, the choice of multiple streams, VoDs, some of the best casters from around the world and most notably pin-sharp HD resolution. Don't miss a single moment of the World Championship 2011/12. I was just wondering about this wording. Does it mean you can only watch a single stream without pass or you can watch multiple streams in hd with pass?

No idea, but if the thing is streamed with Twitch (I suppose so) I'd be careful about buying an HD pass

Otherwise this is like the first tournament where I'd agree on the price point. 5e for 5 day tournament is worth the money in my books, unlike that silly 20e PPV mlg thing.

I believe there are 27 riot employees (if I remember the number right from what Rinoa said in IRC) being flown to Hannover. Most of them from North America. So I guess it would be no problem at all to fly one or two player commentators there. But as already pointed out, CLG.eu will be there anyway, with expenses paid by CLG. And I am pretty sure some of them would be happy to commentate if asked. Wickd casted online tournaments before just for fun. And Snoopeh seems to be just awesome at casting, judging from some of the selfcasts he did during playing. :D Zenon is also friends with some of them, and Wickd casted with Deman before. So all in all I am pretty sure it will happen. ![]()
