So I did not see a thread for this awesome tree and wondering what people's thoughts on what to build.
I tried: Philo stone, Rod of Ages, Merc Treads, Aegis and then my games usually stopped there with my team winning.
I was thinking after that get Frozen Heart/Sunfire/Force of Nature/Banshee's/Rylia's.
Not really sure though after Aegis since I only played him around 3 times so far.

drings, lots of em. then a catalyst. I use so much fucking mana with him it's crazy. and then I go for BV + Sunfire into Void Staff or Abyssal to abuse his good base damage on quad nuke

I wrote a big Treeman guide a few weeks ago but then I stopped playing. Off the top of my head I was building
mpen/mp5plvl/mrplvl/ms 9/21/0 - You really need 21 defensive otherwise you're too squishy to do your job. exhaust/flash
EWEQER / R>E>W>Q Longer root > more slow on Q. Spider mines are OP in lane so you max them first
Items were something like dring philo hog mercs aegis sunfire
into whatever, eventually get randuins and shurelias for the CDR and actives. Abyssal is the only acceptable AP item on Treeman imo, he's a tank, not a caster. He's got decent base dmg spells but his ratios and high cooldowns keep him from going any further. I played Treeman to keep my team alive. His ult and cc and exhaust and aegis and Omen/Shurelias actives keeps squishies safe quite nicely.

He's like Singed - I find Rod of Ages to be a must on him.
|
yeah, ive been running RoA on him as well after a philo. He needs the stats before he can take the defense
|
alternately you could just, you know, build drings since they give you the stats you need without costing almost 3K. that's my take on it at least.
|
heard this guy jungles pretty fast
|
yea, saplings are sicknasty to the maximum for jungling. You can do some real dirty shit and take wraiths + red hella fast and then grab W and do E -> W + redbuff level 2 gank at like 2:20, so fast, lol.
EDIT: still an awful idea though IMO, he's a real strong laner and itemizing in the jungle so that you're sustainable is too difficult.

I'd just like to point out to people new to Maokai that the proper burst combo for him is W->E->Q. As long as you pause slightly after your E before you Q, as far as I can tell, it's impossible to escape the burst and works 100% of the time.
E->W->Q is more unreliable because the opponent will move in between you throwing E at them and your travel time to root with W, which might be a bad thing and could make you miss or only get a half hit on E (especially if it's Master Yi running away). Also if you're really a noob you'll E while you're out of W range and then can't follow up in time at all and miss everything.
Mao's burst is compareable to pre-ultimate Annie, which is pretty scary for someone with as much CC as he has.

situational at best.
E first is optimal as long as their movespeed isn't fucktardedly fast because the cast animation and missile speed are shitty enough as is that you don't want it getting in the way of your R and Q.
|
I still have some time to waddle around before I Q and R has basically no cast animation whatsoever, I really don't see how the E animation can get in the way of the burst combo (and idk I've performed it my way many times and it's always been fine even adding R into the mix)..
The only situation where I can see the other way being superior is if you really want the time to line up some kind of Q multihit money shot while also laying down R, which is what I would call situational myself.
