Just throwing ideas around, lol.
I don't have the technology to check this tho. So far I don't have data on leagues. I am building a new miner with database support right now, but I don't think I'll finish it in a week.

I'm not sure that that would be indicative of lower league players having a smaller blue side advantage anyway. If it's more difficult to watch the minimap that might mean lower league players have a bigger blue side advantage, there's no real way to tell.

You could compare the relative advantage of blue side in games where Baron is and isn't taken. One of the prime ideas for why blue side has an advantage is the superior terrain approaching Baron, and if this is true, you'd expect blue side to have a smaller relative advantage in games where Baron is not taken before the game ends.
|
Is it possible to data mine that?
Even if it was, it'd be hard for that to be conclusive, because even in games where baron is never taken you can't prove that the teams didn't try to take it / fight over it.

No.
But I remember one post floating around reddit a while ago saying blue side wins 60%+ of the time if the game is short (under 20 minutes or something like that). Comparably, currently we are fairly sure blue side wins 55% of the time over all.

Pretty sure you should be aligning your minimap based on your eye dominance.

I doubt that has any bearing on solo queue where any of the bushes are really equally good to camp, and baron is basically only taken in sneaks, when you see 2+ enemies bot, or following near aces/aces.

So I was thinking about the blue side advantage and I think i have another potential explanation. The default UI has the map on the bottom right side of the screen. Blue side players will primarily be looking to the right side of their screen as they move/act and so will have an easier time seeing and responding to the minimap. That's interesting. Does that mean if you are (say) bronze, you will be less impacted by the blue side advantage? It's the camera angle that really fucks over purple, the UI doesn't help it either.

Welp, it took me 241 games to get back to where I was at the end of season 3. I'm salty
In a slightly less subtle brag, I am 14 and 2 with Lux this week. Hooray.

The UI is on the bottom. The game is set up diagonally from bottom left to top right. This means that if you are coming from top right, you have less visibility on your opponent than if you are coming from bottom left. For me personally, this is a huge disadvantage in bot lane especially.

If it centered, say, several inches upwards, it would be slightly different.

side imbalance isn't necessarily a bad thing. so long as both sides have reasonable claim to victory and map isn't inhibiting that.
i actually blame the industry's standard of 16: 9 ratio for this shitty ui issue.

Typing 16: 9 on TL is a pain in the ass.

You also have to compare the difference in mechanics/understanding of the game then too. Boxer/oov were the flash/jaedong of their day simply because they were kings of the current way the game was played/on the cutting edge. i dont feel like something like that can really exist in league tbh true. since it's a team game the difference in individual skill is much harder to gauge than bw and league doesn't particularly see a influx of new players every season (especially those that develop and stay). SKT1 K was my hope to hopefully push the boundaries of league and become somewhat of a "team bonjwa" in league but that seems to have crashed as of now. I don't know if that's possible at all because League is inherently going to create many more "Boxer" than "Flash/Jaedong" due to its ever-changing game balance. There is always stopping new to abuse so by the time one player perfects a certain playstyle or champ, it might be on its way to becoming obsolete. People called Misaya the TF "god" but he is now largely irrelevant even in his own region simply because his champs fell out of favor when the meta shifted. The same thing happened to Dade, and most of EG + Alliance. Just imagine how screwed Flash or Jaedong would be if BW release a balance patch every month. Basically, LoL is much harder than BW. ZOMG! even as someone who loves LoL, BW is the greatest and most difficult game I've ever played. league is actually quite easy comparatively. That's the joke.

*whoosh* Everyone knows BW is for noobs anyways, Go is where it's really at.
