Even if their management failed hard (and it certainly sounds like that happened) Vile wasn't a typical 18 year old kid. I'd have thought he would be able to sort at least some of those problems out himself. Heck if I am moving somewhere where my living situation is shady at best, I'd have my inflatable camping mat and my sleeping bag with me just in case.

The bigger problem to me is the PC situation, how did Guitar think they would play if they don't have access to a room where they can put their own PCs? They should have either rented at least 4h a day in a lan cafe (ideally while scheduling 3 scrims into that timeperiod).

It's a shame they had such a bad experience, but if you ignore the outside problems (living situation etc.) they seem to have had quite a few problems on the team dynamic level as well.

yes

on a tangentially related note, the first post at http://marnorz.blogspot.com/ is informative with regards to what finances are like for an lcs team. it appears that the two big money hurdles are the initial move in cost, which must be covered by the team until riot salaries are paid out, and salary expectations by the team members

After reading that I'd say that gtrsrs is the most incompetent manager I've seen in quite some time.

perhaps, but that is one former member's perspective, and in the end it isn't too productive to focus criticism on what is just a (admittedly highly visible) symptom of the lack of professionalism and structure in a nascent industry

Morg can actually very easily kill you 1v1 at lvl 6 if you don't respect her. Flash ult into chain binding does a surprising amount of damage, and the champions that were popular at the time didn't have the insane amount of mobility as it's common now. That's how I remember getting killed by Morg and how I killed others with Morg like two+ years ago.

Why do I hear everyone now talk about "respect" when they just mean "being careful"? It's not like a player is being polite by not engaging in a 1v1... It's become a buzzword, particularly among the worlds casters. Weird.

Yo dawg, d-one be disrespeccing me or I'm gonna muthaf******* in da face! Trick2G Peace OUT!

Without having an objective view it's kind of hard to make such conclusions about a person. Although from what little we know it does seem that way. The 1Goald1Dream thing with video afterwards even thought many warned. Then Vileroze/Ecco/Cris situation. Now got two stories from Ecco/Vile about some rather dodgy happenings. Still there's no real clear picture or unbiased viewpoint so without knowing a man it's hard to judge him. All we know is heard from people that left the team which doesn't say much.

I would indeed caution against blaming people for anything since we sure dont have an unbiased view of things.

What we can say tho is that it is obvious that mistakes are made and that a lot of the teams seem to have little to no idea what they are getting themselves into when they get to make the move from amateur to pro. It is a big step and there is a lot to consider and players most definitely need professional help to make the transition.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Neo so mad these days :<

On the one hand it's rather unfortunate that these things have happened, on the other hand I'd reserve judgement until gtr has had a chance to say something about it. Reminds me of the Marn situation as Clinic stated above.

I will say that everything is pretty much speculation, since we don't have any idea as to the truth of the situation as outsiders.

But personally, this doesn't sound so much like "bad" management as it does "inexperienced" management. When you compare their situation to teams that have been long sponsored and established like Curse/CLG/TSM, it looks sorta bad, but not only did they come into the LCS as a new team, they were a really new team in the first place. I feel like some of what has happened may be growing pains, and that VES will find their feet once they get established and set.

I haven't played the game for about a month or so, if someone could give me a brief run through of the meta that would be really appreciated, alternatively if there is some sort of resource for this that would also be greatly appreciated.

Quick rundown.
  • Buy Triforce and Spirit Visage
  • Ban Corki, Zed, Ahri, Fizz, Kassadin (assassins are a big deal, TF is OP on Corki especially)
  • Tanky top laners are great, but Renekton is top-tier (also, as Req says below, people like Jax)
  • Tanky junglers are also good; buy Mobos and SotAG and Locket (maybe) and then Oracles and wards forever.
  • If you don't like playing assassin mids, get Ori or Gragas

Not a whole lot has changed in the last month, aside from maybe the prevalence of assassins in the mid lane. Fizz, Ahri, and Zed are the folks on pick/ban status, with Ori popping up for being safe against them. Triforce users are big again - Jax, Corki, Ez, and even Kog building it with good results.

Not sure how in a week's time you aren't able to hit a store for food. I'm sure the closest store wasn't 15 miles away.

Whole thing just shouts to me how very, very unprepared the western esports organization really is. But seriously, if you have to sleep 2 days on hard floor and eat whatever junk for a whole week, each and every one of them can blame themselves a bit as well. You can do things on your own as well.

the meta defining change in the most recent patch was the trinity force buff. damage buff increased to 200%, and phage now gives 20 movespeed on hit and 60 movespeed on any kill instead of a slow chance. corki, ezreal, jax, and other champions that use trinity force well are popular/strong.

mid is still dominated by assassins such as ahri and zed, with fizz now a top pick even outside of eu. a few durable teamfight oriented champions, including orianna and gragas, are also played

strong ganking jungles such as elise, jarvan, and lee sin remain priority picks

top continues to see diverse picks. renekton, shen, and jax are the most popular in recent competitive play, but there are many more viable picks at all levels of play including ap champions - namely rumble, vlad, and kennen

bot lane has not changed much with the notable exception of corki's sudden resurgence and trinity force becoming the best build on ezreal. caitlyn retains her strengths in addition to matching up well against corki, and vayne is knocked slightly due to her difficulty laning against corki,

Hm I typed a really long response but it feels a bit silly. Either way, there's common sense stuff(places to sleep in, food like canned food, rice, macaroni, USB stick internet[works instantly, 10 euros a month], renting laptops, 10 euro desks) or at least calling everyone in advance and telling them to bring their sleeping bags with them... Then when you add stuff like the Deezer interview / having Deezer in the team in the first place, it's just not very convincing. Not like I really care that much anyway, I just was pointing out the impression I got on the subject that was being discussed. Seeing as I haven't slept in 20 hours, I probably am not going to be posting at my best. Now obviously, this entire opinion is tagged with "if this is true", so if it's proven false this entire opinion is incorrect and of course will not be held by myself either.

By the way, Elise wasn't that impressive in Worlds. I'm not sure what it is but Lee Sin and Aatrox for instance were much scarier in nearly every game. I also wonder what it is about Orianna that always makes her amazing despite all the nerfs she gets and despite being in the shadows for a while. I guess her kit really just does so many things all at once.
