Now everyone's talking about how they wanna push from Gold 4 to Gold 2 or whatever.
But as far as the league system, I don't know who's in my league, and I don't really care.

That's because you aren't in Taric's Enforcers.

Yeah but I have no incentive to push from plat 5 to anywhere
Especially because there's a cesspool of plat 5 0 point players who don't give any fucks because MMR isn't visible and we can't be dropped divisions for trying new champs in ranked at this point
I actually really like that I don't care about what happens to me or anyone on my team in ranked

But that's a riot success story. In the past there are many players who get to Plat and then stop playing (in fear of dropping ELO), and now they keep playing because of no dropping in divisions. I agree its really stupid but its "successful" in that players keep playing.

Super awesome just to see the number of progamers in your division alongside you and watch as they struggle to fight elo hell.

I wish I was in Tarics Enforcers.

We should start a Taric's Enforcers ranked 5s team. Probably 1/4 of my FL is on there.

I'm lucky that there's a grocery store nearby which is all super-cheap low quality stuff, but I can take their sales to a much nicer place nearby and price match.
This sounds horribly ineffective from the grocery store's point of view. So they spend twice the amount of time on one customer because he has to price match?

It's the same as Dragon. You may only be gaining X, but that's X that your competition isn't getting.

yeah if you keep going to the same store they still keep you to extort off the ridiculous markups of all their other stuff
its like a jungler taxing a lane so you can freeze it later on

I mean, it's not a perfect system, but I've grown to like it as opposed to ELO for the most part. ELO was just kind of this number which had no real inherent meaning because it would fluctuate so much in the span of a day or two. And once you hit a certain threshhold you were Gold or Plat or whatever, but then you could bounce around it kind of wildly depending on the next couple games.
Now, you have a pretty good idea of what players are around your level, and if the system works like it should (and seems to for the most part), a lot of people get matched into leagues with at least a couple of their friends. I dislike the idea of never being able to fall out of a league outside of decay, but it definitely gives the conveyance of "I earned this and no amount of RNG can take that from me".
It could be improved on a lot, but I don't hate it like I used to. + Show Spoiler +On August 07 2013 06:15 Ketara wrote: If the league system actually worked in a visible common sense way I'd be fine with it.
My issue is all the obfuscating shit like clamping and peoples MMR being multiple divisions away from their league ranking at high and low points of each league.
If their objective is to make things transparent and let people feel good about their rating or feel like going up and down is meaningful, all the rules and exceptions are really good at tearing that objective apart.
Well good news, Riot has said they will be changing that for S4!
Better late than never, right?

I am disappointed seeing how MrTolkien builds hi Yi, he clearly didn't read TL about this.

I'd love to see the elo system with the divisions we already have. I like the idea of chat rooms of your divisions. And instead of promotions, there should be weekly tournaments where captains are selected randomly among the people who checked in. People label themselves by the positions they want (including "Fuck the Meta" or however you label that) and are drafted onto a team and a tournament ensues. Winning team gets ip boosts or what have you.
With that system we'll be crushing Koreans in no time.
@OWB: Invest in candles. Ever since I started using them - there's just no going back. Dinner (along with other not-a-lot-of-light-needed activities) is so much more enjoyable. Laughing about pancakes on my blackberry? So much better by candlelight. Eating rice and lentils (super easy to make) with a cold tomato chopped up and drizzled in some yummy sauce (but syrup totally won every argument it was in) ??? Candlelight wins. You may look like a weirdo doing it in America, but dayum d00d it's noice.
Edit: And shame on you for hating on the fish puns.
Edit: @NotSorry: I do not know why, but your name has been added to the very small list of TL names I wish I had.

I think the league system is brilliant ever since I reached challenger. Made me so much more visible to teams looking for junglers, it's beast.

Riot splitting up display rank with true MMR had the nice effect of being able to implement a dodge penalty that didn't impact matchmaking and wasn't really a penalty while feeling like a penalty that people try hard to avoid. There are way fewer dodgers now, and in the event you do need to dodge the wait isn't too long, and your LP will snap back to your MMR soon anyway. Another effect is that there are fewer people trying to force dodges in champ select since it's less likely to be successful. Still no cure for people who play support nidalee though (at least you can start dring+ward)
