Alright guys I have 15 wins and 5 wins with olaf in s3 and played ~70 olaf games in s2 so I have experience alot of matchups with him, the only one I just can't figure out is Olaf vs Riven although everyone recommends to pick olaf vs Riven or even championselect.net recommends olaf as a hardcounter to Riven.

I've played the matchup from both sides and basically all a good Riven has to do is wait for Olaf to Axe+E him and the unleash his fullcombo on him to outtrade him. Maxing rekkles strike instead of undertow changes nothing in that regard. So what am I doing wrong, are there any early level timings where Olaf is stronger than Riven?

I'd say their cooldowns.
Assuming Riven doesn't outtrade you too hard, you'd be able to heal a bit (chug pots, turn on W if you can spare the mana) between trades, and both Q and E will be back up before her spells so she has to stay clear from you until she has hers.
Also in s2 you could abuse the itemization gaps for Riven (BFS huge price) and just stack armour and health to counter her. It's harder in s3 once she gets a BC and with all the armour items nerfs. Warden's Mail has also been nerfed somewhat hard for laning with the removal of the hp5.

That's what I thought, fuck trading, you hit her, she hits you, you keep hitting her until she runs away. Should put you up on trades. Sounds to me like you're using E then trying to run.

Got to be careful of them minions though.

I think this is one of those straight skill matchups because they can "counterpick" each other. Riven gets an edge in that her kit has utility enough to allow her to outtrade Olaf when used properly, not to mention that she doesn't use mana, so she can catch up by always being able to use her skills. Olaf, on the other hand, has more straight up damage (I think), considering his true damage nuke, but it must be utilized at the right time to make the trades worthwhile. If you hit Riven when her shield is up, you're losing the matchup (basically and for example).

So yeah, tough matchup.

I'm wondering if building crucible is better than QSS for cc like lux binding if I'm an AP mid who could possibly use the chalice in the first place

either that or im really mismanaging my wc spam when i ever get zoned out as TF and trying to keep the wave off my tower

Yea I did something similar in my placements after finishing last season at 1450. Started at like 1k ELO but after like 30ish games I'm finally back to 1380 so it's not too bad.
