I've played the matchup from both sides and basically all a good Riven has to do is wait for Olaf to Axe+E him and the unleash his fullcombo on him to outtrade him. Maxing rekkles strike instead of undertow changes nothing in that regard. So what am I doing wrong, are there any early level timings where Olaf is stronger than Riven? | ||

Assuming Riven doesn't outtrade you too hard, you'd be able to heal a bit (chug pots, turn on W if you can spare the mana) between trades, and both Q and E will be back up before her spells so she has to stay clear from you until she has hers. Also in s2 you could abuse the itemization gaps for Riven (BFS huge price) and just stack armour and health to counter her. It's harder in s3 once she gets a BC and with all the armour items nerfs. Warden's Mail has also been nerfed somewhat hard for laning with the removal of the hp5. | ||

I think this is one of those straight skill matchups because they can "counterpick" each other. Riven gets an edge in that her kit has utility enough to allow her to outtrade Olaf when used properly, not to mention that she doesn't use mana, so she can catch up by always being able to use her skills. Olaf, on the other hand, has more straight up damage (I think), considering his true damage nuke, but it must be utilized at the right time to make the trades worthwhile. If you hit Riven when her shield is up, you're losing the matchup (basically and for example). So yeah, tough matchup. | ||

Started at like 1k ELO but after like 30ish games I'm finally back to 1380 so it's not too bad. | ||
