I think you're over reacting since it says you need to have vision of Thresh for them to see the souls. If anything it may play more mind games then anything since hes in vision somewhere near by but that doesnt mean hes coming to gank. He could just be passing by a ward in their say tribush after trying to gank bottom and is actually walking away instead of coming to gank

The theory I think behind the roaming Thresh is that you can get more souls than if he just stayed in lane since gets from lane/jungle/lane etc. but if that isn't the case than surely it's hurting his roaming potential?

While souls are probably nice on thresh, i really doubt that one should estimate their value that high that stacking a large amount of souls is your sole purpose. Basically, if something nets you more souls without costing anything, do it, but don't go out of your way to get souls.

You need a steady "income" until say the first ~50 or so, since he doesn't gain armour per levels, so you get your minimal tankiness. But the idea of roaming was that you wouldn't lose as much since you could, say, leave bot after reaping a wave's souls, and be mid before the souls from the next wave disappear, allowing you to keep getting them. If it means you'll only get a few souls from minions popped during your gank, then be back bot and miss the souls from another wave, it's not as interesting and staying in lane is most of the time simply better.
(fwiw, boots1 Thresh covers 7200 units over the 20s it takes a soul to disappear, but they only pop when he's within 1900 units.)

How do you play against warmogs/randuins on AD? I never find myself doing any real amount of damage these days D:

You're still doing a lot of damage to them. It just takes longer for them to die, so you have to live longer too.

I believe he's going to stay on CLG as their sub. You're allowed to be on a Challenger Series team and still sub for a LCS team.
Edit: From the Riot AMA about the LCS
Players on challenger teams can sub for teams in the LCS with some restrictions (ex: players can't sub for multiple teams).
