The real problem is laning. As Karthus you will usually pick up a couple of kills from the other lanes after close fights. A good Soraka can counter this completely. | ||

With the new items and the grail nerf, will chalice be redundant and will tear have a place on more champions now? But the "beauty" of Karthus is, that you can be forced to farm under tower and still have global map presence. Soraka takes that away from you. | ||

A typical soloQ situation for Karthus to use his R in would be, say, after your jungler dove top and the opponent got away with a sliver of health. Realistically, not using Soraka ult when someone on your team gets dove is just horrible idea, which makes Karthus' ult really effective. Besides, it's not that hard to time Soraka ult and use yours when hers is on CD. I do agree that Soraka makes it HARDER for Karthus to rack up kills and become that unstoppably force late game, but she does not make it impossible. Conveniently, Karthus is one of the best farmers in the game, so if the Karth player has a clue, he'll likely still have decent items come late game. | ||
