It's just that way in gaming. In MMO's they tend to play healers as well more often than not. Can obviously speculate as to other motives, but it'll never move beyond pure speculation.

(Warning, huge generalization)
Most women start playing in duos and of course every man is at least subconciously thinking "I'm a better player, i play the more important role" or "Men are aggressive, women are passive" and so they play AD carry with the woman supporting. That is why women have most practice as support and end up maining it.

Might just be that more girls have a less aggressive mindset so they prefer playing the more passive role. They like helping their team rather than directly fucking up the opposing team. Just a theory though, no way to be sure.

thats why im really intrigued by aeliel, i wanna know if its actually possible for a girl to be good at a non support role. I've laned with yoonie a couple times and she probably played like a 1600 level AD. Also having watched itshafu a lot, she has good sense and generally knows what to do on Janna. But you can look good with anything when you're laning with 2500 AD.

Well as far as I know Etlia typically plays top and ADC. She is probably the highest Elo female lol player right now?

I know the girls I play with started with AD carries, and went on to support too. One of them started with free week Cait an drooled over the prospect of zoning other noobs to their turret with traps, then she discovered oh-so-cute Kog'Maw and got a knack for skillshots (especially long-range, off-screen "I got you!" stuff. She plays Lux mid now.).
But when she supports, she plays Taric or Sona. No idea why Taric, but Sona reminded her of Miku Hatsune (she hates the vocaloid but there's a private joke somewhere in there for here) and then she discovered she was able to zone the enemy duo by herself when done right. Fuck healing, she trucks people.

One of them is trying some stuff tho (Kennen, Ahri, she got a blast with Lee Sin too), the others not. And they aren't that aggressive nor too sure of their offensive capabilities it seems to me. Then again, in the group I'm the "k since nobody moves his ass I go in —NONONO STOP COME BACK *towerdives alone for a kill then escape while the rest of the team sighs and takes the tower*" type, so I might be biaised on aggressiveness.

For a time I played with one of the most aggressive Lee Sin I've seen, often paired with the Sona player while they were leveling, always QQW never not go balls deep and disengage immediatly. Turns out it was a girl too in the end.
