It's obviously a business move, specifically because their business provides a service that doesn't use inventory (very unusual). They can "give away" something that people have to buy, yet not effect their bottom line, and it has the effect of getting people to want things from the store. effectively they give a little to entice you to want a lot (and if you want something enough, you'll pay money for it). As a business, Riot is pretty damn smart (their e-sports division is another matter). | ||

I've been doing bot lane talon/soraka shenanigans with orb in normal games and omg he's so fun to play. Really fun lane combo too. But I wanna play him in solo lanes and I haven't seen anyone do that in forever. Is he still a viable solo lane pick? I imagine he still wrecks casters mid. | ||

Well before his major nerfs he was basically unkillable, especially since back then locket still existed, so he was pretty OP as you can build anything and do well with him. They nerfed his W so it doesn't provide nearly as much tankiness anymore. With removal of locket+nerf on W his sustain wasn't as ridiculous anymore either. Now as an AP carry, he's very reliant on landing skillshots and his ulti can really screw over a teamfight same way Janna's can. Relatively high skill floor and high skill ceiling, which is why you don't see him as much. | ||

He's really good though as an AP carry. Can farm well, poke well, and is generally a good counter to AoE team comps by scattering the enemy. Fat man so strong though. D: Santa skin to be extra op. Throw gifts all day long. =D As for talon, I always really just saw him as a counter to AP carries. He never was that great top lane, and he's even worse at it after the nerfs. Bot I've seen him doing okay with a support like soraka too though. | ||
