Sion's probably the easiest, most flexible cheap (1350 IP) character you can start off with. At lower levels of play you can hang around using him as anything (DPS, tank, caster) and you're rewarded for learning how to chain stuns, last-hit, etc. etc. I highly recommend him for learning the ropes.

Edit:
He can jungle too, but you need runes for that I think, + it's not efficient. But it does get the job done.

Don't go for a jungle champ pre-30 because your team will have a 2v1 lane that will feed like hell and lose their turret and then your team will yell at you.

lol three pages and no mention of kayle as a 450 champ. Sure she's not gonna carry like ashe or jungle like yi/nunu, but definitely one of the best runeless champs when doing the 30 grind (a lot of mana regen items are good on her, manamune, nashors, dfg, etc).

As a new player you should stick to characters that have the recommended tag. They are generally easy to play. I.e: ashe, nunu, warwick, ryze.

Other good characters: teemo, vladmir, olaf, katerina. These arent cheap persay, but good nontheless.

Any more questions feel free to pm me or add. User: Pandablunt

I disagree about Nunu... and Warwick and Ryze as well, actually. The recommended tag means nothing, Riot doesn't really know anything.

Ryze is 100% recommended. Strong, tanky caster with sustained magic damage certainly is good for new players

Ashe recommended is absolutely retarded though, you HAVE to kite when playing her or she is absolutely useless.

I recommend Warwick for junglers, annie for casters, rammus for tanks and mf for carrys.

Thats the ones I had the easiest time with, I dont count corki because he actually can be tough to play..

Also heads up at the guy who recommended sion, really good char to start off on, viable in any lane and not too hard to play.

I wouldn't recommend junglers to new player thoguh, unless you are going to premade with more experienced friend(s)

I would actually recommend Ryze or Sion over Annie for casters. Annie's lack of an escape and relative squishiness punish you much harder for poor positioning than Ryze or Sion, who are both much beefier.

These past few months... I've sort of forgot Kayle exists, I haven't seen her in a single ranked game since July and I rarely ever meet her in normals. But yes, great recommendation. Was one of the first champs I bought and I really enjoyed playing her. She's really easy to get used to and pretty fun if you enjoy the carry/support hybrid.

Annie is really hard to play in low level soloQ, when you have little map awareness and your tank cares more about chasing their carry than protecting theirs. I recommend Kayle, Tristana, Ryze and Warwick.

Annie is excellent if you're good and can dominate your lane. If you're just starting, perhaps she's not the best choice.
Sion, Fiddle and Kayle are really quite good, as are most bulky melees. Depends on your playstyle.

Sion is worse in duolane now with hp nerf though. When he is playing with experienced friends, dont think he will get a solo.

Good duolaners like Singed is what I would suggest.

Also, nobody plays tanks at low level, so everyone will love you. Plus he stays totally viable at high level.

And if you can get your team to actually do Baron, low level teams will fall for the Singed split-push bait every time.

I've only seen it once or twice, but if you want to just lane, and repel the other people pushing your lane, (idk if he is good at it quite yet) i'd use Shen. Hes got good hp, pretty good skills (ultimate is good for helping teammates acrossmap), and can stand his ground against most lower level players.

He is not extremely easy, but after a couple of games you should be able to beat noobs with him.

Oh, the major downside is that he is 3150 IP.
Survival is winning, everything else is bullshit.

3150IP is not really that hard to save when you start, and you'll find that Shen fits nicely into most team setups. Also, split pushing with him is ezpz, and often effective, even.
So zen.

Not everyone plays good Shen though. And what if you just will not like the champion? Anyway it's free Shen week so trying him out won't be hard

Yeah, gotta have map awareness and all that, and of course not everyone likes him. Freeweek ftw etc. I just think he is a really really solid champ to pick up when beginning, and won't lose his effectiveness as you progress. As for versatile champs, Cho at 3150 is also a good pickup, even after the nerfs, imoimo. You can do well in a duo lane, and also start to learn jungling with him, when you hit 30 / get some runes.

When I was sub 30, hardly anyone picked tanks in my games, so Shen and Cho were pretty much always available and welcome picks. Don't know if that is common for everyone, tho.
Edit: Post 6 Cho can also fit the kill anyone that comes in your way criteria somewhat.
So zen.
