CCL Season 4 is about to take off! All the rosters have already been locked-in and announced. We’re counting the days until the action begins! In the meantime we have talked to some people from different CCL organizations to learn their insight on their new rosters. The process of making these rosters has changed since CCL Season 3, as draft was removed from Season 4. How have they adapted to this change?
New players are highlighted in bold type.
30k
Roster: Liam, cattlepillar, MadaraUchiha, Kure, LegacY, bkid
After winning CCL Season 3, 30k lost most of its players. Michael Udall’s organization had to rebuild from scratch, only keeping Liam (Vespertine) from its former roster. Chief Operating Officer Robb Parris explains that, even though it was a tough process, most of the players they talked to were thrilled by the idea of playing for 30k. Besides being the current champions, 30k has been the fan favorite organization in all the three CCL seasons. That’s why the absence of a draft hasn’t affected 30k, even though they used to be one of the most successful teams at it. Robb points out that the biggest downside of the new format is making it tougher to highlight new players.
To solve this issue, 30k is largely involved with the NA amateur scene through Heroes Rise: Contender Series, a series of tournaments they organize alongside WildHeart Esports and Diamond Hands. Though they haven’t signed any player from this circuit, they have a sister team, 30k Violet, formed by players that belong to the free agent pool and could be promoted to the main roster. Robb defines 30k’s CCL roster as a “true NA dream team”, so they’ll be proudly representing the region at HeroesHearth’s league.
Diamond Hands
Roster: Gotfilth, caesarsalad, Nintorii, Hebi, Unaverted, Kelsier
Diamond Hands has kept most of their Season 3 roster. “Our credo has always been looking for long-term options and not changing rosters and players every season. We build on trust, friendship and fulfillment. We want to be close and this takes time”, tells us DH’s owner Christopher Kraft. Last season, they almost made it to the top 4 of CCL. That top half of the chart is their target, and that’s why they had to part ways with Valamar, who wouldn’t be able to attend the LAN finals of CCL Season 4.
Hebi has joined Diamond Hands as a replacement for Valamar. Their other roster change affects the ranged assassin position. Unaverted will take care of that role, while Kelsier—their DPS in Season 3—will be stepping down, though still being an important part of the team. This decision was backed by Kelsier himself, who is keeping track of everything his teammates do and subbing in many games during scrims.
Diamond Hands roster has been quite active during the off-season. They participated in the NGS Storm Division, where they finished in third position playing as Anti-Clown Association.
Oxygen Esports
Roster: BadBenny, QopenHagen, Nic, HasuObs, YasuOTP, Rutzou
According to Stephen Martinez, Esports Operations Manager for Oxygen Esports, their goal since the organization joined the CCL has always been to reach the top 4 or higher. After achieving that goal in Season 1, Oxygen failed to keep it up at the next couple seasons, where they finished in fifth and sixth position, respectively. That’s why they decided to completely rebuild their roster.
Thanks to the absence of a draft, Steve and Oxygen’s coach CavalierGuest were able to look for pre-existing rosters who were looking for a home for CCL Season 4. That’s how they contacted and signed The Hardos, one of the strongest teams in the current European scene:
“The primary interest for a lot of players, and this is true for The Hardos as well, was to have the chance to work with our coach Cav. His ethic and commitment to improving our teams over the past three seasons have been phenomenal and that opportunity demands serious consideration from all players in the league. Cav has had nothing but positive feedback about our new roster and genuinely believes that they have found a home here with our system and style.”
Oxygen Esports will be participating in both CCL and Masters Clash Championship. Both tournaments will have LAN finals, and Steve, CavalierGuest and the whole roster are looking forward to meeting their fans at these events.
Big shoutout to Robb, Chris and Steve! Stay tuned to learn more about the remaining rosters! Who will you be rooting for at CCL Season 4?
