Heroes of the storm is a rapidly growing game, and TL is looking to do some more coverage of the game and the developing scene. We have a few open positions. This is a chance to get in on the ground floor of an awesome game and work with some excellent people.
Heroes of the Storm Writer
Description: Writers are responsible for writing previews, recaps, features, and other written content for TeamLiquid's Heroes of the Storm coverage. In the case of previews and recaps, it is crucial that they are written in a timely manner. Writers must be able to write both concisely and at length, depending on the situation. The ability to recognize and develop narratives is also a must. Knowledge of the scene is important, but more important is a willingness to work hard and accept criticism . Positions are not paid and are on a strictly voluntary basis.
How to Apply:
Send a PM to KadaverBB or Vaalia on teamliquid containing the following information:
Your TeamLiquid.net ID and Skype information. For coordination purposes, we require writers to use Skype.
Short introduction and relevant background information as it pertains to this position. Please do not send resumes.
Availability and desired workload.
Applications are open indefinitely.
One test writing assignment must also be completed
Pick one of the following
A tournament preview (500-1000 words) -Write an article previewing some future tournament . The preview should not preview the entire event if there are many competitors, but should cover a main storyline leading into the tournament. A main storyline includes, but is not limited to, looking at a tournament favorite or popular player going into the event, looking at a team going into the event and any tournament specific storylines
A tournament Recap (600-800 words) - Write a concise recap on the events of a single day in a major tournament. This is NOT a battle report assignment. Try to tell an interesting story about the tournament and players as a whole, rather than listing the details of several matches. The above examples are only references, feel free to be creative with your style. Any tournament may be chosen as the subject.
An article of your choice (500-1000 words) - if neither of these ideas appeal to you, write something you think is interesting and that people would like to read, be it a team focus piece or a Hero guide for your favorite hero. Give me enough meat to properly judge
Remember, these pieces will be judged on knowledge, content and writing style. No previous experience required. Applications will remain open indefinitely. Good luck have fun!
Remember that like most staff positions this is strictly a volunteer unpaid position, the reward is having your writing read and working closely with really awesome people.
I will definetely apply, since i've got a lot of spare time. Just one question though, about the test writing assigment, how does it works? Do i send it in the PM itself? Do i put a link in the PM that redirects to, where i wrote it in, lets say, google docs? Or how do i send it?

Any of these work, so long as I can read what you submitted.
Dang it. I would love to do this, but I don't have a key yet and it's hard to write about a game you haven't played... Maybe if I watch a ton of replays I can do it.

Well if your sure that you're gonna be playing this game 100% and be able to invest time and work you should definitely apply. It's not like theres something to write about right now anyway.

It would be nice if people wouldn't be passive agressive and act like captain buzz kill, when instead they just only click on the news that interests them.
Good luck to all that apply looks like fun and a good start.
Act like? I AM Captain Buzzkill. Sorry though, your right.

gogo! GL !!
You should apply too, who knows, it could be just like the old times

So you're going to write another couple of whiny posts in this thread until someone, in this case me, responds to this?
I suppose there's coming a section or new forum for Heroes eventually, right now there's hardly any Heroes news, so I dunno why it's bothering you so much.

We receive perks, but we aren't paid, no.
What kind of perks?
Not that it should really matter - it isn't what most (if any) of us signed up for - but we do get TL store discounts and access to press passes for a bunch (most) SC-related events. Depending on what you're like, a more public outlet for your opinion (writing editorials really fits some people and allows them to share their opinions where more people will see them) is also a plus. And I mean, I guess TL can probably be a way to get into other esports-related things if you're really into it, so you can think of it as an opporunity to broaden your skillset and so forth.
I am a bit concerned over TL's massive expansion over the past few years.
Victor has been in the industry a long time and I'm sure he understands what he's getting into. Also this coverage may just be on this website with a view opt in/out option like dota used to have. If that's the case there's nothing really at risk, they're just gathering volunteer writers to cover events.

Also when we produce good content, we only get half as many beatings from TLHQ.

This is thinking waaaaay ahead, right now we aren't even close to that. Right now we just want to upgrade coverage because its a game I think has a lot of potential.
Working for TL is applicable and recognized work experience and will not only introduce you to traditional work expectations, processes and practices, but also serve a great start to broaden your network of people and friends within the gaming scene that you love.
Whether you're just passionate to contribute or what to know where it can lead you, TL is a pretty great start.
You should get involved in these sorts of experiences if you find it self-fulfilling/sentimentally rewarding or as a part of a learning experience into a growing career. Don't get involved if there is no real feeling of return or appreciation for your work, you shouldn't see contributing as a selfless act but as a rewarding one, by whatever grounds that may be. If there is no feeling of reward, then you pretty much know you are not interested (and that's fine).
yeah I would love to apply, but I don't even have access to the game yet so it'd probably be hard, partly because I don't even know if I like it yet o_O

Of course it doesn't matter, and love of the games and scene is the main motivation behind it, but I was just curious since I wasn't aware of them benefits before. Something to look into for myself for sure, since a job in esports sounds like a dream to me.

Sorry, just being a whiny bitch like usual. No more whining, promise (for at least an hour)
I'll be keeping an eye on liquidoverwatch.com too as time goes on ^^
Teamliquid.net and all the teamliquid sites are registered with enom, Liquidheroes is registered with enom but liquidoverwatch is not, Liquidoverwatch is registered with godaddy so chances are someone took the liquidoverwatch domain before teamliquid did.

Not sure. But I do remember a few months back when they were looking for Starcraft 2 writers and had no intentions of paying them either."Your reward is having your writing read". FailFish. TL is worth like $30-$50 Million, probably even more, but they can't afford to pay writers lol.

No salary. But opportunity to work in TL. Hm sounds pretty good But it's kinda a daunting task, because although I have solid English, I have almost no knowledge of Heroes of the Storm. IT would require a lot of research wouldn't it?

User was warned for using twitch memes this post
this is why I keep posting. When Nazgul passes away, decades into TeamLiquid's coming decline as everyone starts to have children and get involved in real sports like Bocce Ball, I will be there, discussing how awful Final Fantasy 58 is. He'll leave me 1% of his fortune.

There is always room for more staff in Teamliquid, you just have to try contributing in some way and get noticed. This post is specifically for writers only, but there is a heroes Liquipedia page you could start editing as well if that is more up your alley.
On November 23 2014 06:34 Imperator x8x wrote: How long is recruitment going on for?
Normally these kinds of recruitment are open indefinitely, since good writers are always wanted. Just write a PM to the person that made the OP once you want to try your luck.
I would, however, like an area where there is a more organized forum to post to. There are only going to be increasing demands for guides and information that will warrant the need for new forum strings. Anyone know how we can make this happen?
Just as a reminder, we are actively looking for more writers and volunteers. Since now we have our own section here on TL and start ramping up our coverage, im bumping up this thread for anyone interested in joining us.
I would offer my services for it, but I've been doing wikipedia updates on Heroes. Since I uninstalled starcraft 2 entirely and have no intention on ever touching that game ever again, Heroes has my full attention when I'm online.

PM me an application! any heroes related writing sample will do ^^
Sorry if this is necro, and this question was kind of asked earlier in the thread, but what's the advantage of writing for TL when I can just write on my own and post it to TL forums? The person who asked earlier seemed to be coming from the stance of writing for TL vs. not writing at all. I write because I like it, but what do I get for getting told what I can and can't do? And experience doesn't count. I already have experience working for a similar writing machine, and while it was a good experience, its also nicer to work solo a lot of the time.
Writers working together with the team can use html in their posts, which normal users can't. The usage of html obviously makes for better layouts at times. Of course you can also coordinate a html article with the staffers, but then both of you will need to be online at the same time, which is hard at times. The team also will help unexperienced people with getting their html going, but if you have good content they will likely help you as an external person aswell There's also some spellchecking going on and people will try helping you keeping a red line through your article, but if you want that is up to you ^^

Throwing my input in here:
Working for TL has been a wonderful experience for me, not only learning a lot of basics about the publishing process and collaboration, but also getting to meet a bunch of like-minded individuals who share the same passions. The people I've met through TL have become close friends and excellent people to talk to about the game as well as real-life problems. Although our recruiting is a bit formal, it's mainly to just make sure we're recruiting people who have the potential and dedication to produce consistent quality content; sometimes we even reach out to individuals producing their own content and ask them to join the team because we know we'll get a lot out of their collaboration (in fact, this is how I originally started writing for TL).
The TL writing staff always gives credit for articles, and never steals ideas or articles just so we can have them under the TL banner. The biggest perk to writing specifically for TL is the extra exposure under the TL banner that you usually can't quite get as an individual. That said, even on staff, we're more than welcome to write our own pieces (look at Phantom's recent editorial on ranking) as well as contribute to the group with guides, event coverage, etc. Simply put, it's just a team dedicated to making sure we produce consistent, quality content for the community.
I'll think if I have anything useful I could write about. My skill is decent; though not that high (low diamond). I'm not much of a writer, more of a proofreader. And I don't follow tourney stuff, so nothing to write about there. All I'd really have to talk about is strategy; and I'm not sure there's much to say there that isn't well covered already.
We are now officially looking for writers again! As the new year approaches, we've got a lot to write about and many tournaments to cover, so we're looking for people to help fill up the gaps in our staff and allow us to do more esports things . As always, even if you don't feel you're writing is superb, go ahead and apply, give it a try anyway!
This thread probably needs to be unstickied. As far as I know, the Heroes of the Storm writing team is now defunct. If you would like to publish something to reddit or even here and you need help formatting and editing, though, I'd be happy to help you .
