I didn't see a thread here yet for this. The Hearthstone mobile app has started rolling out for Android tablets. Right now it's just in a few regions with more being added later. Right now it's just for Austrailia, New Zealand, and Canada.
The Hearthstone Android tablet rollout begins! As part of the first phase of our Android launch, players in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand can now download Hearthstone for free on Google Play—and in the coming days, we’ll be fully rolling out Hearthstone worldwide on the Amazon Appstore for Android and Google Play.
You’ll have the complete Hearthstone experience at your fingertips, so get ready to engage in the mech-fueled antics of Goblins vs Gnomes and explore the haunted halls of the Curse of Naxxramas adventure on your little-green-robot-powered Android tablet.
But wait, there’s more! As an added bonus for giving Hearthstone a go on your Android tablet, you’ll earn a free pack of Classic cards. All you need to do to redeem your free pack of cards is complete a game of Hearthstone in any mode on your Android tablet, and BAM, you’ll be busting open a new pack in no time. Win or lose, you’ll earn your free card pack just by enjoying a game of Hearthstone in Play, Arena, or Practice mode.
As always, your card collection and progress will be shared across all devices used to access your Hearthstone account, so everything will be waiting for you when you launch Hearthstone from your Android tablet.

Some users on other sites already have made some successful workarounds for getting the app to work on some smartphones.

Would love to start playing on my Galaxy S5 already. UGH.
|
|
Seems to not give the free classic pack on some android devices/situations but they said they are working on it. FYI.
Edit: Should be fixed now.
Oh. And it runs on my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 but a bit slugishly. Fine enough but I wouldn't do any serious ranking on it.
|
Should finally be able to play on the go when released over here
|
I'm running it on my EVGA tegra note 7 on US fine. Performance isn't great but it runs and is playable. It feels really similar to using a remote desktop client and playing it through that, colors can be kinda weird, and it's a little choppy at times as well.
|
Wow performance is quite terrible on Nexus 10. I wonder if it's nearly as bad on the iPad.

it's flawless on the iPad. I play exclusively on my iPad now. I'm sure it's just buggy upon release for your Nexus. It'll smooth out.

Maybe someone more tech savvy can help me out, I have a Kindle Fire HD from 2012. If I understand correctly, this meets the min requirements but is not "verified", so it will run but not well?
|
Coming days...
I can't wait. This will make train journeys so much more bearable.
|
Wow, there's only 1 tablet that it's incompatible with, and it's the one I have.
I have the best luck of all <3
I wonder why it's that. Hardware problem or something else...?
|
So I can't play on my Nook, or do anything else with it, really.
|
Downloaded it on my Asus Memo Pad. Unfortunately it goes to the title screen and just freezes.

I don't know about Blizzard's QA procedures, but usually this means something like: "We've compiled, installed and ran the game on this exact hardware configuration and it passed all our tests, so we can kinda guarantee (verify) that it works on this model."

haha. aww, what a sad/funny post. this is why you don't buy hardware made by a retail bookstore..

I played on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and for the most part it felt alright. The first start up took a while, and when a game is finished it's a bit sluggish getting out of the game and back to the deck selection screen, but for the most part is working fine.
Got my free classic pack no hitches. Now to see how reliable it is when my tablet is sharing my phones 3g connection...
|
Got it to work on my Oneplus One phone by using an APK found on reddit that removed the device screen size restriction. Seems to work quite well in the few games I tried with it. Obviously the UI isnt designed for a phone screen but overall it is still very playable and with little lag. Another bonus I discovered is that you can play separate music instead of listening to the in game music which is nice.

Its finally available in France on the playstore! Runs smoothly on my nexus 7, using Android 5.1. HF guys! :-)

Still waiting for an iphone app

Really smooth on a nexus 9. The only problem i found was at the moment of opening a pack the color effect didn't worked that well.

i'm so happy this is finally usable

Works pretty fine on my Nexus 4 (cyanogenmod), all things considered. It's a bit laggy, but definitely playable.

Once you download Hearthstone, you won't be able to play it unless you have a 6-inch screen or a comparable resolution because the game has a screen-size check once you launch it. Install the Android SDK on your computer if you haven't already, enable USB Debugging (requires unlocking Developer Mode via Settings > About Phone > tapping Build Number 7 times in a row) and connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable. Open a command console in the platform-tools folder and type adb shell wm size 1440x2560 (if you're on a Mac just add ./ to the start of the line. This command will change the resolution of your device to 1440x2560 and allow you to run the game.
I have a Nexus 5 running 4.4.4 myself which has a base resolution of 1080x1920, so you're really not increasing the resolution by that much. Everything is still plenty readable (and arguably better) at 1440x2560. If you want to return to your old resolution, connect the cable again and type adb shell wm reset.
The game runs very well with just a few frameskips in certain animations (like searching for an opponent or loading the title screen). I'm sure anything with comparable horsepower (Nexus 5 has a Snapdragon 800 quad-core @ 2.2GHz) will run it just fine, meaning anything around probably Galaxy S4 and up.

Been playing it on my Galaxy S4. Works great, but I'll probably only play it for Casual Play. I don't want to risk playing Arena or Ranked on a touch screen where any number of things could go wrong.
|
Nice, works on my nexus5. I might be back to some casual Hearthstone now.
|
Australia, New Zealand, and Canada...? Aren't these usually the countries that gets everything months after everyone else? I quite like them getting some love finally.
edit: Huh. The official version is only for tablets That sucks. Guess I'll have to get the third party one

Even though the frame-rate is a bit low at times, it still runs perfectly fine for me on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
|
It's rather disappointing that it runs so poorly. OpenGL acceleration is quite good on modern Android tablets, but Hearthstone is likely all rendered using the CPU. It's unlikely this will change since the game is made on the Unity engine for rapid development. I wonder if Blizzard ever regret that decision as I'm sure it limits their technical freedom.

Is it really made on Unity? Then I don't see how its taken them this long to port it to tablets to begin with. The engine is made with portability in mind. In the editor its literally clicking a button.

I'll update this by saying after waiting a few days I opened it again, and after a few moments it loaded to the screen properly.
Feels pretty clunky playing, but for some casual gaming it works.

Android has quite a wide range of devices to test out on, even just for Tablets.
Smartphone-wise, they might even need to change the interface to account for even smaller screen size. I'm hoping they aren't aiming the smartphone version to be optimized for iPhone 5 or older. Good god, that would be annoying. Android Tablet version works decently enough on my Galaxy S4, though. But for Android PHONES, though, there are quite a lot of them to test out on.

For android, what you need to account for is screen size and apk, so luckily you dont have to test every model out there. Unity does all of the optimization for you (they probably have to change interface for phones like you said, but it doesn't account for why it's taken them this long to roll it out for tablets)

The reason is developers sometimes use these countries as a kind of beta launch to see if anything will go wrong before deploying to the larger American demographic (and then the world). The population is smaller, but the demographics are similar, English speaking, etc.

Works decent on my Galaxy Note 2 with the workaround. Doesn't run at all on my Asus Memopad HD 7, or at least doesn't load past the splash screen.
|
It runs fine on my Asus Memo Pad FHD 10, even though it has unsupported PowerVR Graphics. Maybe a bit slugish, but playable.
Loading it for the first time took ages, at first I thought it was stuck at the spash screen. After that it starts reasonably fast.

samsung note 3 kinda laggy imo but still playable
|
Yeap, confirming that it works fine on the Kindle HDX 7"!

Give me an iphone app now dangit

Be cautious with modding anything to play HS on a device that doesn't technically support it yet. On Blizz forums it's been cited as against the ToU. My source for this was quite a long time ago, though (early December?)

I can't wholeheartedly tell people to break the ToU, but I have yet to hear of anyone who has gotten punished for it.
I've gotten it to work nicely on my Galaxy S4, and while its slow in places, it doesn't affect the gameplay that much. I would be wary about attempting it on anything less powerful though.

It's a Free to Play game. You're not stealing any money from Blizzard by installing it. And as a Free to play game, you might even be making it more likely that you'll give Blizzard more money. No argument for or against piracy applies to this situation. You're not modifying the game, you're just allowing yourself to play the same game as everyone else, just on a different device that doesn't officially support it yet (but will in the near future, anyway).
I don't see any good reason to oppose it.

Its probably just to cover themselves completely should someone find a bug or exploit that is only available through using it on a medium they haven't tested it for yet. Of course bug exploiting and similar is already covered under the ToU, but better safe I guess.
