Decided to give hearthstone a shot, because it would be silly not to (also because day9 is cutting back on SC2 dailies to do HS). I did some research as to the pay-2-win aspect of the game and I've decided that it's playable for free on two conditions: 1. accept to lose a lot when you start 2. focus on getting only one deck on its feet before anything else With this in mind, I'm going to play only mage and not pay a single cent. So I'm guessing that the going will be rough. If I do end up liking the game enough, maybe I'll throw some monies on the table. So my goal right now is to set myself up with a decent / competitive mage deck. I'm wondering which are the cards I should be aiming at. is there any way to show what cards I already have on my b.net account? I'm looking at mana worm, sorcerer's apprentice in the first place. good early game board control cards. Not sure what else I should be focusing on? I looked it up, an arena run costs 150 gold. By the looks of it, the better you do in arena, the better your rewards are. However, you will always get an expert pack at the end of the arena run (expert pack costing 100 coin). Looking it up, it seems that if you're good at Arena, with 5 wins you draw even for the cost, at 7+ wins, you gain profit from your arena run. That's actually really nifty. I'm bad at the game though. Maybe I'll spend my next 150 gold on an arena run though. Thank you for the tip. | ||

Thank you for the tip. at 4 wins you're guaranteed at least 50 gold which with the rest of the arena rewards makes it more cost effective than buying a pack at 7 wins you're guaranteed at least 150 gold which means you get a pack for free + some more dust\gold\cards also you can complete daily quest in the arena | ||

I will look up some arena guides also doing one dude only isn't cost-efficient for f2p, i think. | ||

I picked up Hearthstone about 3 weeks ago. I've been playing off and on but over the past week I've really got into the game. I've been watching Trump's F2P Mage and most recently I was interested in his F2P Rogue where he then moved to Warlock Zoo. Trump said playing Zoo was a great start to learn about the game so I have decided to start looking at Zoo. I would however like to start with a deck I can just grow with instead of stopping and changing out cards. I might be totally wrong but one of these decks will be what I go with. Like wouldn't being able to get rid of a Truesilver Champion or better pretty good? Like even without the battlecry, it still looks like a great 2 mana minion to me. Like I sort of get why you wouldn't. Is it because if Doomguard or Soulfire comes up you have a high chance of discarding making it maybe not as good as other 2 mana non situational minions? also you want to empty your hand as fast as possible and play Doomguard for free. so keeping the Ooze is running against that plan. it's also bad tempo play to hold onto a card that may be useful later on. | ||

Even if he hits your five turns in a row, its still only 5 damage. That said you also have to consider the situation. If you have a 5-1 on the table, yes clear the 1-1. Against paladin you also might want to consider clearing it if you have no other board clear and no way of putting anything on the table. (as they can buff them with +4 damage, and now you've taken 10, which is pretty drastic vs pala-zoo/rush) As mage, just use your hero power. If the guy is 1-2, then either hit him two turns in a row, or forget about him while you play your own minions. | ||

ask yourself: -how long will the creature survive otherwise -is it crucial for board control -can i get a lot more done with my removal spell in following turns | ||
