A title as ambitious as this promises great things. Whether I deliver is a judgement out of my hands. I stand and the foot of legacies like that of Rekrul, documenting his misadventures as a successful young white man in an asian country. While I've neither the monetary equivalence nor the relevance to the heart of this website, professional starcraft, I hope to provide something here that everyone can enjoy reading.

Here I am presenting the rawest form of honesty; laying nude in my bed, air conditioner assaulting me with frigid waves, with a bottle of ol' Jack Daniels rotting my gut. Rarely am I so raw & vulnerable. As a being that exists entirely without shame, there is no need to discuss the probability of regretting this post come morning. I'd reveal these details to any interested party without hesitation, merely because I want to share what I've done & what it has taught me in these short months 80 miles from the equator.

First, let me assign credit where it is due. I wouldn't be where I am without teamliquid and the users that have made the enthusiasm & personal sacrifices of the staff here entirely worthwhile. We have evolved from a starcraft website to something more akin to an ongoing family reunion, reliving times past with a passion unmatched in games communities worldwide. Let me offer a sincere thank you to everyone who has contributed to the evolution of this website, from masterminds like those red & blue names you see every so often, to the lurkers who are merely fans of the game & the work we do associated with it.

I'm FakeSteve from teamliquid. It sounds silly, but this statement carries weight in the games industry. This is largely due to the reputation & success of our website, but as a man with certain physical disablities I've learned to market the skillset I possess in order to satisfy my own needs. Razer is my current employer, as a direct result of the work I've done here, and forums poster nvnplatypus, who has been the puppeteer behind the strings that have controlled my daily schedule for the last year and a half. This man is a homeboy to the greatest degree, and you'd all do well to emulate him as best you can, in every way.

I'm FakeSteve from teamliquid. I'm a goddamned force of nature, beloved and feared by those who delight in english starcraft news. Forgive the hubris, but I am essentially what all of you should aspire to be. I have created standards for myself an adhered to them, leading me from surgery to southeast asia. I posess an intense passion for starcraft & its finer details. Though this obsession is not advisable at the level to which I carry it, a comparable passion is necessary to excel in whatever field you might choose. Don't fear where it may lead you. I'm working in marketing right now, an elaborate stretch from my area of expertise. All skills are transferrable on one level or another.

Some of this post was crafted mentally during the cab ride from my favourite watering hole back to my apartment. Singapore is a wonderful place to drink. Whatever social setting you wish to find, Singapore can provide it. Dive bars, beach-front pubs, high-end lounges full of russian models... if you can imagine the wildest time you can handle, Singapore can give it to you.

I don't make a lot of money, and it all goes into three things: immersing myself in a foreign culture, obsessing over a variety of foreign edibles, and alcohol; the last more than anything else. It's nearly 5am right now, and I'm due at the office in less than five hours. I worked graveyard shifts for a year and a half, I can survive on so little sleep. This shit is par for the course, except instead of mourning my physical disadvantage and poring over every new VOD, I'm loving every second of my existence and poring over every new VOD. It's a stark contrast from life in Canada, as an unemployable cripple on 20-month waiting lists for various procedures.

Out here I've no lack of things to occupy myself with. As I said, alcohol is chief among my activities. This is entirely a product of the company I keep, and how diverse & interesting they all happen to be. Plus, they all love the sauce as much as I do. I regularily drink with a host of folks that ranges from 10 to 30 different people, of all walks, all backgrounds, all ages, all ethnicities, all opinions. I've got homies back in Canada that I dearly miss, but nothing I've known can compare to the sheer pleasure of the combination of debate & debauchery I know in Singapore. These men & women are th crown jewel of this nation, the backbone of the satisfaction living here has provided me. Through nights at a biker-esque establishment called Handlebar, numerous barbeques, and my extensive tranny prostitute evasion training, I've developed a connection with thse folks that is meaningful on many levels.

I don't want to talk about my job. It's difficult, but as in any other avenue I strive to excel & exceed expectations. We shall see.

This post has essentially been cognitive vomit, wherein I hope I've conveyed at least a taste of what living in ths nation under these circumstances is like, & the effect it is having on me, When I'm sufficiently smashed again (believe me, you need not wait long) I'll return with more specific details, stories to tell, the works. For now I just want to prep you all for the selfish, hyperbolized tales to come. Good or bad, I aim to share my experiences with all of you, because you are all as responsible for their creation as I am.

My clock has just ticked to the 5th hour, so that's the end for tonight. I hope a few of you can take interest in the continuing drunken rambles of a man out of place. This post has not been proof-read & will not be edited. Feel free to field any questions about Singapore and my adventures here, or simply why I am so great & you are not.

Love & entrails.

I think that it's wonderful that you have found "your" place in the world (at least for now) and i am glad that your contributions to teamliquid have effected your life in a positive way. It seems like you are having a great time and meeting a lot of people, I can't wait to hear more about it.

Also, if you don't mind me asking, what is the story behind your physical disability (don't bother answering if you are going to end up writing about it anyways).

Pure perfection and brilliant marketing! There are not many dearing to talk/write straight out these days, but I sense this trend coming (in every field, from politics to fashion industry - the question is what will be regarded as going to far or being stupid, and what will be considered clever).

Have a nice stay, man!

Some of the aforementioned trannies (trannys?) tend to be gorgeous and relatively difficult to tell from other gorgeous women in pictures. How can you tell the difference when it's not blatantly obvious?

I'll be in Singapore in late August. I am just a teen though, so I don't think anyone cares.
Question, is there anywhere to get Superdry (a Japanese company) clothing? I'm looking for a light jacket, if there is it'd be cheaper over there. It's hot over there though, don't know if jackets are that big.

I have a degenerative disorder wherein the cartilage in my body is hard and jagged rather than smooth and rubbery. It tears up my knees something fierce and messed my back up pretty bad along the way. I might need to have my kneecaps replaced before I'm 30, to give you an idea of the damage this wreaks. Through surgeries and various other procedures I'm nowhere near qualified to explain (mostly involving cutting out scar tissue and shaving down problem sections of cartilage), I've gained the majority of my mobility back after a period in my life where walking 10 blocks was an impossible task, and I slept on the couch some nights because I couldn't handle the stairs.

There is a certain manner about them, the way they carry themselves and the way they talk. That, and broad shoulders, "man hands", certain facial structures, the voice. There's basically enough information to check for that chances are they'll hit one on the list, and you can tell 'em you're broke or gay, which is my current defense mechanism. It's entirely possible that I've missed one or two genuine good times (that I don't have to pay for) by reflexively claiming I'm into dudes, but it seems unlikely. As with anything else of this nature, location is half the equation. Sometimes it's easy based on where you happen to be drinking. Sometimes they just straight-up tell you they're post-op and flash their gnarled, sawbone genitals at you. Those are the trannies that could never convince anyone they were born a lady. They've become a freakshow, a parody of themselves. It's pretty gross.

Steve,

I've always known, for some odd reason ever since you and Zerius trained me from the depths of how horrible at starcraft I am (and still am) that you'd eventually turn out to be a very dedicated and steadfast person.

Godspeed dude, it looks like you're having a hell of a time in Singapore. Glad to be your friend.

Wow that sounds horrible. Is there any permanent options for you, or do you just have to go back at periodic intervals and have short-term surgeries?

I've heard this many times from Singaporeans. Many seem to share the belief that Singapore is a pretty boring place.

If you ask me, there's loads of fun to be had here It's not about money either, as Steve attests to in his OP.

I mean, theres loads of fun to be had.. but its often at the expense of time, and in a place where time = money/success, and given an Asian environment.. tada! presto. =[

Singapore is boring although there are stuff to try out and do but because it's easily exhausted after a while... I give it 2 months max before you finish "trying everything out".

I've only been here 13 years

But honestly speaking, if you are yet legal, there's nothing much to do. Pretty much same routine, wake up, go school, cca (if there is), come back home, study, (add in dota or sc once in a while), dinner, study. Weekends, study, sometimes go out with friends to - watch movie, watch movie, eat, watch movie, play lan. Kinda routine imo. Although there's more options during holidays, cause there's chalets woot.

But once you turn 18, bars, driving, and many other stuff become available. A whole new world opens up ;o

i have a strong feeling that everyone who thinks Singapore is boring would be similarily bored in any other location, barring those tailored specifically to entertaining people while they are alone.

The location is merely a backdrop, and Singapore is a hell of a backdrop.

Damn, I was kind of hoping this post would tell me something about Singapore. At least I learned FS likes to get drunk.

Aren't they all just friends? lol

I'm thinking you're asking about the difference in our attitude, character, etc? I'm kinda interested too.

Don't let this man fool you. His disability is that his brontosaurus-cock sucks up all the blood that should go to more vital organs!

When did you start writing this, cuz the last time I spoke with you drunk, I definitely heard a few of these lines ;x

Your entire existence is almost a carbon copy of Ignatius J. Reilly, from the book A Confederacy of Dunces. That book kept me sane and laughing for a good 2 months.

In essence: More self depreciating details, and don't sell out to Hollywood.

p.s. Also, if you do sell out; A-List parties are lame. Don't be fooled by their smiles, because they're permanent and are made with plastic surgery. The recurring theme to take home here is that making lots of money and paying someone to look the way you want is bad. Keep associations to both minimal, and you will be fine.
