Recently for our prom night I realised that I didn't know how to tie a bloody tie. 30 minutes on Youtube obviously didn't cut it, so I had to get a friend to do it, 'cause my dad couldn't do it either. The vast majority of my class couldn't do it either, in fact only 2 boys and 1 girl where able to properly tie a tie. I've been practicing on and off since then (a week or so ago) and know I can finally do it so it looks decent. I can only tie one knot though (double windsor) and it still takes a few tries to get it acceptable, but it makes you feel a little more mature to be able to tie a tie.
Now my question is: how many teamliquidians can tie a tie?
Poll: Can you tie a tie? (Vote): Of course! (Vote): Nope, unable to do so..
I've had to wear a tie a few times and I still don't remember how to do it. I forget it everytime I learn it.

Of course! I'm the tie guy for most of my friends. Half windsor ftw.
yup i only know 2 different ways though (don't know the names but they're the most common ones i'd imagine) i learned during frosh week (one of my faculties' symbol is a pink tie)
i know like 10 different ways to wear a scarf which is somewhat related (euro loop ftw)
Of course! I only know a few simple variants though, but of course I'm able to do it!
This poll should be restricted to people over 19/20 or something though. No reason to be able to if ur younger
Some school events do actually call for wearing a tie, as for me, I just get someone else to do it.
takes me some time, but yes :> Military training did some good, I guess
Nope! For some reason all of my friends know (or claim!) to be able to tie a tie, including my younger sister, mom and dad.
I'm not very fond of ties and I never wear them unless I absolutely have to.
I don't wear them any more but I still remember how to tie them and sometimes I tie my scarves like a tie for fun. Wish I had known how to go to prom though...

No. I own a single tie and I leave it tied. It's completely ruined from this.

haha, noob. Your lone tie probably has creases galore.
yeah I play a decent number of concerts and my band director always wanted us to wear a suit and a tie
since high school I haven't worn one though. Thank god, those things are annoying
no, but I almost never wear ties, so it doesnt bother me.

yea i know how to tie a tie. i was in jazz band in high school so i have to wear one every other week. though sometimes i would "forget" so the cute second chair trumpetist would tie it for me, she seemed to get a kick out of that.
... now that i think about it, she must of thought i was retarded.
Nope...can't tie a tie. I know girls who can though and they all laugh at me

I blame basketball season, we wear a tie every game day to school... which accumulates to having to tie one like 20+ times in 3 months.
So yes...
I get owned. I always ask my roommates or friends to do it for me.
I have like 3-4 ties, and I leave them tied...haha.
I used to, haven't tied a tie in a while though so I forgot.
sOmeone always shows me and then I forget it.

I've had to wear one since I was 12, so yes!

Lol, that was actually pretty funny. Nah, I don't know how to tie them. I have people do it for me.

I think a man should know how to dress themselves, tying a tie is a pretty basic skill.

learned to tie a tie when i was like 11 or something

lol i expected it to be all no because of the lack of social skills! Jk its pretty even..
I have no idea how to tie one. I always got my dad to do it for me when I had to, and I haven't had to tie one in like 4-5 years
I'm surprised at how few people know how to tie one. Don't you people have to go to weddings sometimes?
I guess I'm going into law, and I used to be a musician so I've tied a lot of ties.
I can ALSO do a bow-tie, which is gosu.
i had to wear one as part of my school uniform in highschool.
I'm a musician. I have to tie a tie like every week at least. -_-. I can do the full-windsor, half-windsor, four in a hand, you name it.
It's funny this topic should come up, since our bowling team decided to wear ties (suits) on Friday for no other reason than just to do it. All three of the guys knew how to tie them. That said, it is a skill that can easily be ignored and likely wont hinder you too very much. I'm just weird and like ties.

Haha yeah, being a musician is the only reason I learned how to tie a tie. I can only do half and full windsor though. Full windsor just looks the cleanest imo, so I just used that one ever since I learned it.

im so glad my job doesn't require me to wear a tie

My job requires a tie... I know how to tie it a bunch of different ways
I know how to tie two knots, currently. And I think the third is only one step more. Youtube has a couple of really good instructional videos on it; that's how I learned how to tie a tie.

If you're in business later in life you'll want to know how to tie a knot other than the four-in-hand, though. People pay attention to appearances, and tie knots is one of the things some people will notice.

i use the principal skinner line (when he ties his shoes) as a mnemonic, but i reword it a little
over and under and [all-around and] inside out (that's what tying shoes [a tie] is all about)
Had to learn how for a job, learned off the internet minutes before I first went to work there.
Ties are pretty ballin, its one of those life skills you actually need (Job, funeral, interview, dance). It comes in handy man. The winsor ftw by the way.
just bought my first suit ever last week and learned how to tie a tie couple days ago.. getting ready for interviews baby~
edit: I actually have the iTie app on my iPhone, it shows you like 5 different ways yay.

Er, yes. Actually, I saw the poll stats and dug up a tie just to make sure I really could tie one.
I don't wear them, though.
Absolutely. I learned how to tie one when I was eight. If you don't know how to tie one, learn.
lol i know now, half windsor is ftw
I should probably learn soon.. :p

Nope, never worn one, I should probably learn soon though for prom in a few months though O_O
Are people trolling the poll or something? I honestly expected like 20-30% to say yes.

Learn the half-windsor, and gg.

I do know, but this is still what I do with my ties anyway, so that I usually don't need to do any work.

i'm a senior in university but i still don't know how to tie a tie. getting to learn it soon before i graduate.
No I can not, I have not yet been needed to do so.
I have only worn a tie a couple of times, so no I dont know how to tie it...
haha, my ties are also tied :/ I can't tie it myself and haven't got any intentions to learn it.
Yes I know how to but not the proper way. I only know the short and ugly version but then I don't really care.
about 4 years ago I got a job where I had to wear a tie and didn't even realize it until the night before. So I had to go buy a tie and google how to tie it. I had no clue there were multiple ways to tie a tie. I prefer the windsor knot.
I have been to parties so i know it now.
But if you'd ask me to do it within a minute i'd fail. I always tr multiple times before im actually happy with it
But the main point is that i can! *yay*

If you learn how to tie a tie, at least learn one of the symmetrical knots (half-Windsor, Windsor, etc.) instead of the amateurish-looking schoolboy four-in-hand knot.
Couldn't tie one until 3 days before my graduation ;D
Most of my friends couldn't do it and neither could my father, I was like wtf? So I did the only reasonable thing to do. I got on youtube, found an instructional video, and started practicing .
30 minutes on Youtube??? omfg, if you dont know it, do a 5second image search on google for gods sake and you'll end up with a perfect picture guide.
These poll threads just gets worse and worse.
i learned once and then i forgot so my mom ties it lol
I like wearing ties. Only know one knot, but it's not that ugly, unbalanced one that's most commonly used.
BTW, what's with all the people saying they're musicians and therefore know how to do it? o_O

Is this a tie, or a bow-tie? I can easy tie a tie, school uniform for 14 years here. But I can't tie a bow tie, so I get one of those loop around your neck ones.
yes, although I only know two styles.
I can tie a tie...sort of. It's passable more or less...
No, I suck at it, and it definitely makes me feel embarassed.
Here's to the plan of learning to do it right soon!

I'm actually a big fan of ties, so I have my own collection (even though I really never have opportunities to wear them).

I learned how to tie a tie when I was 15 and have over fifty ties. I even have a tie that has a bunch of colored cartoon condoms with smiley faces on them.

OH RIGHT it was for prom! bwahah that silly thing...

I never really wear a tie and did own a few of them while working for Walgreen's(heaven knows where I have them now). I hated working at that place now that I remember that I had to wear a tie everyday to work. I haven't tied a tie in years but yes I can tie a tie.
