It's actually how many contries can you name in English as well as spell correctly. I gave up after 2 minutes when I misspelled Sumalia? and the thing flooded -_-

That's stupid, I go to type United States of America and it only picks up the first part so I waste time. I go to type Wales, nothing, Scotland, nothing, Great Britain nothing, it is only United Kingdom which is stupid. Raged after that.

I got 99, but seriously, some of those shouldn't be on a list over "countries" that's just plain wrong. If scotland isn't a country, then greenland for example sure isn't either and don't get me started on antarctica and it's ilk...

Well that sucks. It's a mistake of definition of 'country'. We are CLEARLY different countries. The system has failed us. Ask people in England whether we are a country and only the bespectacled, sunlight deprived nerdlingers will say 'actually, itth quite clearly not a country thir'

btw Great Britain has nothing to do with Ireland.

Well by country I mean a sovereign state, an actual independent nation. While England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all constituent countries of the UK it really doesn't mean much today, they're essentially like the States of the US.

With different national teams, sometimes different languages, different parliaments, different tv stations, different flags, very different accents, and lots of rivalry? To me, it's like saying France and Germany are just states of the same country, Europe.

But I guess, with a scot in power, there is a certain degree to which the parliament of the United Kingdom is not the parliament of England ><.

But I guess, with a scot in power, there is a certain degree to which the parliament of the United Kingdom is not the parliament of England ><.

Only a very small minority of people speak a language other than English. The parliaments have quite limited power, Westminster is the highest authority UK-wide. Sure there are different flags, but US States all have their own flag, the national flag is still the Union Flag, not the Saltire or whatever. So the BBC has different regional TV stations, I'm sure this happens in every country. People from the north and south of England speak with different accents, this makes them separate countries? Rivalries between different regions also exist in every country.

The national teams are pretty much the only thing that define them as separate countries and it was probably kept mostly for the classic England-Scotland rivalry in football and rugby and in some sports there are GB teams and there will undoubtedly be more in future.

France and Germany don't share the same government, language, national flag, TV channels, internet TLD code or anything else that a country generally has.

Yer well it should specify sovereign state instead of country or just include them all, cos Scotland/Wales/Nth Ireland are countries.

Also, GB is just the british isle, not ireland/nth ireland. North Ireland is covered in the UK I think. It is always just confusing as to which is the sovereign state because GB even enter events as Great Britain instead of the United Kingdom -_-

but all this sovereign state arguments are ridiculous because it is obvious that the list is NOT about sovereign states, since for example Greenland is a part of Denmark, Australian antarctica is probably under Australian rule etc.

88... the language question is not that much of a problem in French, most of the time you just need to add an A at the end! but I guess it must be more problematic from Swedish for instance..

The United Kingdom isn't a country... but Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England all are. So 65, +4 that didn't register because the game make doesn't know what a country is.

for the record, england, wales, scotland, and northern ireland are not actually countries
great britain is UK + ireland, so again, not a country

Yes, this is the reason, it can cause a lot of confusion

Yeah I know that technically the French and Germans are light years away compared to us and the scots, BUT comon. Go to the streets of Glasgow or the streets of Manchester and ask 'what nationality are you?', I'm willing to bet people would say English or Scottish a lot more frequently than British. A lot of Wales speaks Welsh as well. And each of the countries in the UK does have a head of state, doesn't it? Welsh prime minister, Scottish prime minister, Northern Irish president. Besides if the current Scottish parliament party gets its ultimate goal, it WILL have its own parliament. Which tbh I can't see as being a bad thing seeing as SO much of the ridiculous amount the Government pays out in welfare goes to Scotland.

Yeah but the current Scottish government can suck my dick. I think the head of state is still the queen for the entire country, regardless of the first ministers and such. You're correct in that if you ask the average person in the street what they consider themselves many of them will say English, Scottish, Welsh or whatever but if you take a look at their passport it will tell a different story.

Yeah I'm not trolling. The thing is that in most states of the USA you'll find people who are like 'YEAH...TEXAS...kicking everyone's ASS'. But just as many people going 'GO USA (get a brain morans)' etc. In Scotland, England, or Wales, you rarely find people saying 'GO BRITAIN!' unless it's for the olympics. I don't know it just feels different from your distinctions of states.

ps jello are you from scotland?

Wales/etc are as much countries as New York State, California and Texas are countries. Sorry brahs, distinct regional histories =/= country. If you all vote for and are represented in the United Nations by one guy, you are all one country.

Yeah people in the UK are more proud and identify themselves more heavily with their provincial/state designation, ie scottish/welsh/etc vs the United States (ie south dakotan, arizonan), but from a perspective of political perspective it's irrelevant. The people in the UK all vote and are represented by one person at the executive level, the Prime Minister, and ergo are one country.

Distinct regional history/pride =/= distinct countries.

This question is obviously a lol one because its analytic (true/false by definition) in nature. It's a question of whether Wales/etc fits into the definition of country. Since we aren't arguing about the actual nature of what Wales/etc is we are just arguing about the definition of "country". Still fun tho.

Got 48... it wouldn't accept United States (why does this always happen to me?), so I spent like a minute trying to figure out something it would accept before saying screw it. I also forgot like half of Africa/Asia because I just blanked. It would help an awful lot to have a blank map. Also, apparently my spelling sucks.

Hong Kong is part of China... not it's own country.
China considers Taiwan part of China but most people, including me, consider Taiwan it's own independent country now. But Hong Kong is not it's own country.

How is Hong Kong a country? It's not a city-state like Singapore.
British territory, transferred to the PRC in 1997.

"Germany, now one piece", as in not split between east and west.

Edit: That was way late. I was watching it for a third time .

Maybe, but no separate representation in the UN. The China / Taiwan debate is much more interesting: everyone in Hong Kong admits to being part of China.

Also the song is from the early nineties, before HK was transferred.

lol fuck I tried England and Great Britain.

I failed so hard on this, I got 31. I couldn't spell like 8 of them and spent a good 2 minutes trying to figure out the UK's, I am going to try this again later when I am fully awake, I usually am pretty good at geography.

for the record, england, wales, scotland, and northern ireland are not actually countries
great britain is UK + ireland, so again, not a country

Ireland is a separate country. United kingdom only has northern ireland

8th grade social studies class we had to know all the countries for the final test. I played again and got around 140 left - I always get Togo, Tobago, Trinidad, Micronesia, Cook Islands, Christmas Island, Heard Island and McDonald Islands, Barbados and other obscure islands simply because I had to memorize them geographically and I retained the knowledge.
