I am so darn sick of negative news on gaming that I am going to start posting all the positive news I find on the matter here in the general forum. See it as armament against anti-gamers and the likes. Might come in useful too when you have to justify that 18 hour binge on whatever game took your fancy lately..
This one is a tepid start, but a start anyway:
Playing the video game 'Tetris' could reduce trauma, claim Oxford University link to news post here
Basically it says: British researchers found that playing the popular computer game shortly after the trauma helped wipe out the bad memories and reduce distressing flashbacks. The psychologists from Oxford University believe the discovery could lead to new treatments for accident victims in hospitals as well as those involved in war zones. This is only a first step in showing that this might be a viable approach to preventing post traumatic stress disorder,' said Dr Emily Holmes of the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford University, who led the work.
That's some odd Tetris that news used in their picture lol..
Since there are just so many benefits to gaming I will try and seldom post these as I don't want to flood this forum section. I am not surprised they used Tetris, it's really one of my old time favorites.
Studies have shown that playing Tetris before falling asleep will increase the chances of dreaming of Tetris. There's several studies about tetris and keeping you awareness up to par as well. I don't understand why tetris is the perfect game for everything!
Edit: Which one did you download Physician so we can compare scores and hopefully I can brag :D

Truth. I used to play it every day on the subway on my way to classes. The thought of 4-block shapes falling down at high speeds dominated my thoughts for days at a time. Good times...
I've had three or four times when my friends and I get completely addicted to tetris for a few months. It makes its resurgence every now and then. We play on tetrinet / blocktrix -- very fast, straightforward and simple, customizable hotkeys (oh, also has special items like on blockles). I definitely have had dreams about tetris, and also I remember at work sometimes I just see shapes in the room fitting together.
If anyone wants to play over blocktrix, shoot me a PM. I play at around 60 bpm.
We have known forever that concentrating intently on something can keep your mind off trauma, and let you process it in a healthy manner. We know video games are one way of capturing people's complete attention and engaging multiple parts of the brain for very exact measures of time, why not combine the two and see if the results are positive?
i dont know what kind of people they are but tetris is pretty stressful, the whole time wondering when will you fail, where is the next block going to go, will your whole existence be a failure because you cant find a spot for the next stupid block

I have images of zeal-goon armies running through my head sometimes. All bad.
Wtf, I'm stressed as hell when I play tetris. You know, at the moment that the last line is getting clogged with increasingly faster and faster waves of blocks? You wanna make a war vet shoot his brains out ? Make him play tetris !

After playing on iCC, when I try to go to sleep and close my eyes all I can see is starcraft scenarios being played out constantly Had the same thing with tetris too when I played it for quite a bit. Shapes coming down endlessly and fitting in without me really thinking about it...but just watching it.

I feel alot better now
lol, I don't think I could ever play tetris for over 10 minutes. That game is so fucking boring, I think I would feel drained if I played for an hour.
Now Tetris Battle Gaiden multilpayer on the other hand, is a different story. In fact, I'm going to play this game now. It's probably one of the best SNES games there is and sadly it was never ported to the US from japan.
