The Constitution was designed specifically to create a stronger federal government that all states could accept. It was a political document. Protecting the rights of minorities? Prior to 1868? That's preposterous. Minorities like Rich People, Folks-With-The-Wrong-Religion, and That Guy Joe We Hate. Obviously black people didn't count.
Folks-With-The-Wrong-Religion were still boned if they were living in a state that did not like their religion. The Bill of Rights did not apply to the states until Judges began to read the fourteenth amendment correctly.
Joe was probably fucked too.

The will of seven million people to ban same-sex marriage in California has been turned down by one federal judge (who is a homosexual, by the way) who has no regard for the Constitution whatsoever. Shame on this leftist judge.
The tyranny of the many.
I want you, right now, to tell me that I should not be allowed to marry my boyfriend, because you and your conservative friends think its bad.
Go ahead, tell me I shouldn't have the same privileges as you, and be able to marry someone I love.

You should not have a boyfriend, and you should not even consider marrying a man. I'm not a conservative, I'm just realistic, unfortunately you are probably protected here so you can insult my beliefs all you want but if I told you what I think of homos I would get banned.

People who honour themselves with titles like "realist" amuse me no end.

Proselitizing your beliefs is one thing, lobbying them into law is another completely different.

Its not your right, homosexual marriage doesn't exist its just something made up. Marriage is to raise kids not to save money, thats why heterosexual marriage exists to protect society.
You do have the same privilege to marry a person of the opposite sex, I can't get marry whoever I want.
And wow I didn't know the judge was a homosexual... this is such a joke.

Why can't gays raise children? The amount of logical fallacies being provided by the anti-gay side is horrendous.

These people are yet to hear of things like "adoption" and "surrogate mother", they'll come round eventually.

Which is exactly why the sterile cannot get married.

Odd, I haven't heard any gay people talk about banning heterosexual marriages.

I have yet to read a single logical argument against gay marriage. And I'm willing to bet my life that the majority of people supporting Prop 8 are homophobes, yes that is a grandiose claim but lets be honest with ourselves here. Don't try and cover up your personal animosity with bullshit tirades about the sanctity of marriage. Once again (as we have been hundreds of times in our past) we are faced with change and change makes people of lesser intellect fearful for some reason.
I'm confident that what is truly right, acceptance, tolerance will win over.
Marriage rate in U.S: 7.1 per 1000 Divorce rate in U.S: 3.5 per 1000
Oh its SOOOO sacred. Bullshit.

A couple needs not be married to raise children.
Marriage does not exist solely for the purpose of providing a stable family unit for children. If that were the case, the sterile, barren, post-menopausal, post-hysterectomy, post-vasectomy, life-term prisoners, the terminally ill, and those who just plain don't want to have kids should also be unable to wed.
Would you like to deny them the ability to marry who they want as well?
Should children be taken away from their parents and relocated to a home that meets your approval (married heterosexual family) if and when their parents divorce?
There's absolutely no proof that homosexual couples can't raise a child who grows up to be a contributing member of society, with a full life of their own. In fact there was a study done that showed the children of the lesbian couples involved were typically more well-adjusted than those of heterosexual couples.
Also, you ought to prove that heterosexual marriage, or marriage of any kind, serves to preserve society before you make such a claim.

For those arguing about the purpose of marriage, should we prevent people who are unable to reproduce from having a child?
|
Fact: A child cannot grow up to be a contributing member of society without both a male and female parent.
Fact: All attempts to raise children otherwise result in complete failure.
Recommendation: All single parents, and widowed parents, should have their children taken away and the remaining parent launched towards the sun in a catapult.

Adoption is not much more than an attempt to socially engineer the wellbeing of a parentless child, and as such negative arguments are not of much practical use. It's theoretically possible for people of low-education, low-income, eccentric religion, or lethargic lifestyles to be good and loving parents, but they are generally not chosen for falling out of safe and secure selection criteria based on social norms.
