Metalfest is over and as promised, here is my blog about this wonderful day. I don´t really know where to start so I deceided to make it step by step, from picture to picture. For those who don´t know what this is all about, read this thread:
We arrived at the venue in Essen at ~ 1.30 pm. When we arrived, the technicians where building up the stage and setting up everything for the show:
We got our cards, so that we could show the securities, they better be nice to us The Tourmanager was very decent and we could enter the backstage area as well as the concert hall. While we were waiting, we found this:
Here is another picture, showing the unfinished stage:
The worst thing on concerts you play is the time you have nothing to do but wait wait wait… Finally at around 3:30 we were asked to get on stage and do our soundcheck. The sound engineer on stage was very nice to us and gave his best to make the stage sound as best as possible for us. So we got through our soundcheck and had enough time to play a whole song before we had to leave the stage again.
And at this time, things started to get really interesting. Our drummer (Sergej) told us, that the tour-tech of Morbid Angel listened to our soundcheck and that he really liked it. He liked it that much, that he wanted to have a Demise Empire shirt. Since we have no money to print shirts, (we have designs ready, but no money L ) we gave him one of our CDs. Hope he likes it
Our drummer (Sergej)
My Stage Setup after Soundcheck, ready for action
At 4.00 pm a lot of people accessed the concert hall and I started to get a bit nervous, since there were really many people for the early time of the day. At 4.30 we played our gig and all I can tell you is, that it was a great gig and it seemed that all the people there liked our stuff and the concert hall got really crowded in front of the stage. We managed to get throug our set quickly and had enough time to play one additional song, since many people liked what we did there.
Here are some Pictures of Demise Empire on stage:
David
Eugen
Andrej
Padlo
Eugen + David
After our show, we could enjoy the rest of Metalfest relieved and with some beer. We went into the backstage area and I wanted to eat something at the buffet when mighty PETE SANDOVAL stood at the buffet, too.
Pete at the buffet
I asked him, if I could take a picture for my blog and he agreed and was very nice (Although he seemed a bit in his own world…. )
Pete and I (David)
I got something to eat, too and made a picture of the lunchtime buffet
Buffet
Mighty Butter after a few minutes of lunchtime
And here, another part of the backstage area:
Blond guy at the table is the bass player of Keep of Kalessin. Some other bandmembers but cant tell who is who exactly...
I met Dave Vincent, too but he was talking to one of the tour managers and I did not want to bother him.
When I showed the picture of me and Pete to our drummer Sergej, he looked amazed so I called for him when I met Pete once again in the backstage area at the dinner buffet. He asked him for a picture, too and I took the foto. Our other guitarist got lucky, too J
Sergej + Pete
Andrej + Pete
As I stood in the backstage area, I suddenly saw a pair of white sneakers and TREY AZAGTHOTH was standing in front of me! Since he is one of my favorite guitarists I asked him for a foto, too and he agreed very nicely. Sergej was lucky and stood nearby, so he could join in for the foto, which my girlfriend took.
David, Trey, Sergej
The support bands had to leave the backstage area at 8.00 pm, so I had lunch and then left the area to watch Marduk live….
Lunch
Marduk were great and we had some more beers in front of the stage. Kataklysm were not as good as I expected them to be, but the most people liked them a lot and the venue was very crowded.
Time for mighty MORBID ANGEL to join the stage at ~ 11.00 pm. Since I am running out of time, I just want to say this: MORBID ANGEL are one of the best live bands I have ever seen in my life. There presence on stage is enormous and their tightness leaves the crowd with an open mouth; literaly ! They played 80 minutes from old school to their newer songs and even one song of the upcomming album. Here you can see what you missed
Dave Vincent
Trey
Now that Metalfest is over and Me and my band had an unforgetable day, meeting our favorite musicians and being treated so nicely, I want to sayTHANK YOU AGAIN TO ALL TL METALHEADS who voted for us. You guys made a good percentage of our votes and I hope that I could give something back with this article.
Enjoy the pictures and feel free to comment
--UPDATE--
WE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU TLnet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I told the band about this thread and all the nice feedback you gave. I want to thank you again in the name of the whole band.
If you take a look at the voting you can see that we are ranked third !! Many points are given by you TL, so thank you. The distance to the first spot is getting smaller and smaller. If you have any friends who like metal, you could maybe show them the voting? would be great.
I would never have thought that we really have a chance to get this far but now we are very motivated to win this thing.
To motivate you we came up with an idea when we rehearsed yesterday: Since we are low on money, we cannot record a new full-length album. Now we want to record a mCD (maybe 4-5 songs), not professional but hopefully better sound than the songs on myspace...
To thank all of you and to reward those who like our music I decided to upload the new recordings to the TL-tracker for maybe one week so that everyone has the chance to get some new songs FOR FREE ! I would than bump this thread again, before the new songs will be released so that noone who wants to dl them misses this. What do you think about the idea?
And do you think, we could win this? I think, yes but its still a way to go.
Thank you TL and I hope you see that your votes werent a waste of time
Hey, First of all I want to say that I am not the kind of guy who creats new topics every day and ask for "stupid" things.
BUT, I am now seeing a big chance for my band to do a big big step in our "career".
On December 20th the big f***ing, genies, no other than Morbid Angel will play a gig in Essen (Germany) and people can vote one Band to support them as the Opener.
For all TL-Metalheads this is a chance to listen to some new Bands when you click through the Bands you can vote for.
Of course I would love to see some of you vote for my Band "Demise Empire" to make a dream come true.
BUT: I dont ask for blind votes from everyone here. What I would really appreciate is YOU listening to my Band on www.myspace.com/demiseempiremyspace .
If you dont like what you hear, maybe you just ignore this or listen to some of the other Bands on the list.
So, I have never been asking for favours here but this is such a big chance.....
Metalheads help me out please
EDIT:
for the lazy ones Demise Empire plays Death Metal.
EDIT 2: DONT FORGET TO CONFIRM YOUR VOTE BY CLICKING ON THE LINK YOU WILL GET IN YOUR EMAIL
EDIT 3: As promised, here is the Youtube video of "Crusaders". Its a live video from Dortmund/Germany. The sound sucks but who cares? (Btw.: I am the guitar player on the right with the Jackson guitar)
EDIT 4: Another Update, this time another song from the live concert in Dortmund/Germany. Have fun and feel free to comment

Voted, I have to support the only real death metal band up there. A fucking Deathcore/screamo band is #1 though? TO SUPPORT MORBID ANGEL? WTF IS THAT SHIT.

I can't listen to more than 10 seconds of your music, but I voted for you anyway because this seems like a big deal for you and maybe I just don't know enough about metal to be able to appreciate it. Best of luck!

Same here, except it was 40 seconds for me (until the singer start moaning). Consider this a blind vote from another member of the great teamliquid community.
I liked the music alot. It was really good, you guys put alot of thought into your music The singer is actually pretty good PS. what instrument do you play?

A -huge- metal fan, but not a huge -death metal- fan. However, I listened to some of your stuff and it's way better than most death metal. Not to mention you asked so nicely and it's always good to help out a fellow TL'er. =) Good luck dude.

We are at 4,8 % now. If you get it to 5% in the next half hour I will add one more song
Well, I will go to bed now and hope, you guys keep this going for some time
Its 01:00 for me here in Germany so I will check the voting-results tomorrow. Since we are at 4,9% for quite some time now I will update the profile with one more song.
Thanks you all for voting and listening to my band! See you tomorrow
Not a big fan of Death Metal (or any form of metalic music for that matter) but I can see what your going for. Plus you asked so nicely and it seems to mean so much to you.
I agree with that band in first not being fit for the spot. A death metal band should play with Morbid Angel. That's like Hatebreed playing with Incubus. I voted.

So you can vote for each e-mail address you have. Someone could cheat this easily with the help of a few people by using mailinator and just voting a bunch then going and confirming and repeating...
Didn't really like the sound til I heard the tar solo ^_^ I'll vote for you. Essen isn't too far from here, maybe I'll come too, some excellent bands playing too ^_^ (plus my vote will be worth 10 times as much)

Metal ain't only Death Metal. I can barely listen to death metal at all since I hate it so much, but I love thrash metal and progressive metal. Death metal is just like... the beack end of metal, or the black sheep, or something u dont want but it's still there.

Yeah, the different kinds of Metal differ a lot, thats definitly true! If you dont like Death Metal, maybe you can listen to the song "Crusaders" on our profile. It has more melody in it and isnt typical Death Metal (imo)

The Band "Death" is (was) really good! Chuck wrote some melodies which are unforgetable...
We have one song on our Album where people say it sounds a bit like Death... When we get into the top 5 it will be on our profile

I think you'll like it if you enjoy thrash metal.
Melodic Death metal isn't "Death Metal". Go for bands like Origin, Hate Eternal, Nile, Vomit the Hate, Decapitated, OLD Cryptopsy.
And the "black sheep" of metal would definately be raw black metal, such as Darkthrone's "Transylvanian Hunger". But I still love that, because I'm a true metalhead.
I liked the music, but I personally can't stand that kind of singing :/. Voted anyway since you're from TL And hey this poll looks like it could be a real challenge, we should mobilize ~~

I haven't been listening to a lot of DM lately, I've been more on a ambient black metal spree(Zuriaake, anyone? ).
Thanks you! Some people here said we would fit MOrbid Angel well, soundwise. Morbid Angel, Death and other Death Metal Bands form the early 90th or late 80th are big influences. Some riffs are inspired through Black Metal Bands like Emperor, Dissection, etc.
Dont know, maybe others can describe our sound better. I am too used to it

huh, no? Death Metal has some of the most skillful musicians/composers of all metal. I don't see how that makes it in the back end of metal. That's ironic. It's in the front of "real" metal for sure.
yep. death metal is in its essence closer to the core of the "true" character of metal music in general, which is the expression of feelings of hate, anger, frustration etc.
ok maybe a bit towards the twisted dark side of human nature but whatever

You've got to be kidding me. From wikipedia:
"Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal." "Melodic death metal contains more melodic guitar riffs, melodic solos, and acoustic guitar work than death metal."
That's exactly what it is... take death metal, and add more melody and make the vocals more screamish than gutteral. Of course melodic death metal isn't "death metal" or else it would be called "death metal." It's a modification of death metal that tends to be more intense, fast paced, and generally more enjoyable for occasions outside of pits.
At first i thought they were just a band you like than i read this thread again and realized that you're a band member. Wow really good luck i hope that you guys get to play with morbid angel.

It's funny because it's so stupid to put these complicated labels on different genres. Like is extreme power metal the same as extreme power thrash metal...Personally I don't care because I don't like metal, but it's just funny how flared up people get during these sub-genre arguments on forums.
Your band could sound great with the right studio equipment, I voted for you ^^
Only thing I don't like about your sound is the singer's voice. He doesn't growl like most DM bands would. It's more clear and less aggressive. But perhaps that is because of the gear you have?

Thank you!! Our Singer grew up with a lot of Thrash Metal Bands like Slayer, Testament etc,... Maybe his voice is characterized by this?! idk Real Death Metal growls sound a lot deeper than his, so you are right.
And you are definitly right about the equipment. We had no money when we recorded our CD and worked alot on it ourself. But no one of us has enough experience to create a sound which is "standart" today :/
Maybe a gig with Morbid Angel would bring us one step further ? :D
EDIT: Anyway we are very proud that in the first review of the CD the guy wrote that the sound reminds him of early records from Morisound Studios in Florida (Morbid Angel and many other great Bands recorded their CDs there )

Yes, you got it right. We have to take the first spot. We are getting closer and closer to the first place
Well, not easy to stay on top. I dont want to backbite but the Band WW seems to cheat in some way. Everytime they fall in %points, they automatically rise again, exactly 0,1% above us.
They did the same when they and PoD where close to each other.
Suspicious is, that they rise within 1 second (0,5% sometimes in a second !!!) when they didnt go up the whole day before. When They are on top, they dont rise their %point either,.....
I dont know if things like this are possible to cheat with bots or something but if so, I hope the organizer will recognize this....
If they dont cheat (which is not very presumably) I want to apologize for assuming it,...
I heard that some bands got disqualified in the beginning of the voting some time ago. We´ll see, if we can hold our spot against them

Yeah, we are actually doing very well at the moment.
I want to bump this again to give the people here the chance to recognize my update of the OP. Since I want to offer something after you gave me so many nice words and votes, maybe a MOD can turn the threadtitle into [UPDATE]Metalheads...... or something?!
On September 24 2008 02:26 HaiVan wrote: I voted! Your band is in the lead . Make TL proud Sewi
Haha, thank you. I try my best and added banners to our myspacepage etc,...
Today, the ticketshop opened at metalfest.eu so everyone who lives near Essen (Western-germany) may be interested in buying ticket (of course with the email-adress you voted with for extra points )
Also, we are getting serious with our recordings for the before mentioned EP/Demo.
On monday we will start the guitar recordings, all "click-tracks" are finished so that the drums can be recorded maybe this week, too. So, for those who liked our music, I can tell you that the EP will definitely be available for you, because you supported us so nicely with your vots.
One more reason to bump this thread again is that the end of the voting is now clear. It will end on October 31st and I would like to ask you to maybe ask some friends or maybe familymembers to vote, too. We are still ranked 1st but now with the ticketshop open, the ranking can change rapidly in short time.
Thank you in advance, spread the word for us (I am actually thinking about wearing a TL-shirt on stage if we manage to get there )
ahhs fun acoustic intro on crusaders more melodic death genre songs gogo fun vocalist o.O Also! TURN THE VOLUME ON THOSE GUITARS sexy sound should not be muffled by the drums
On October 06 2008 20:51 Starparty wrote: great name on the bottom bands btw... "begging for incest" .. is that like standard?
Many names in the Grind/Death Metal genre are funny but there are also some very lame names. For example, only in cologne there are 4 or 5 bands with the name "insane". You go to the next bigger city and what do you see? again at least 3 band with the name "insane". I would like my band to have a unique name and dont get this. But most bands really try hard to find a good name for their band.
Also what I wanted to ask... Has anybody an idea, where I could post this besides of TL (any non-starcraft related site)? TL is the only community I am really active in....
So, thanks again and I hope I will see some of you at metalfest no matter if we win or lose..
The link seemed to be broken because of some updates on the metalfest homepage. I edited the new link into my OP. Just in case you wondered how to vote...
Ever since I first heard your sound, I always come back to your myspace profile to listen to your sound every now and then. You won a new fan for sure!
EDIT: Man, the part from 2:50 to 3:20 in Fallen Guardian is sooo epic, gj on the whole song!

Hey, did you listen to our music, yet? And did you like it? Some more people listening to our stuff and commenting about it would make us happy again. We all enjoyed reading the comments here at TL !!
Let me know what you think about us, no matter if its positive or negative
On October 22 2008 05:15 dm47 wrote: sounds like Amon Amarth, I like it. I'll vote xD
Thank you !! Although we do not compare us to Amon Amarth this is nice to hear, of course. Viking March is the only song with some "viking"-influences. Maybe you like the other songs, too.
On October 22 2008 07:31 Snet wrote: Nice band, but gotta say that was some weak ass headbanging haha.
Thank you, you are right! The headbanging was weak ! We had some drinks before, because we had to wait extremely long until we could enter the stage. And Crusaders was one of the last songs so we were a bit wasted already Maybe I can add one more video from the same gig but an earlier song....
Thank you all for voting again! We have 8 days to go so maybe some more people like to check us out ?! =D
We are still ranked first and only 5 days to go !! I want to bump this once more when I update my OP tomorrow with another video, taken from the same gig as the one posted now.
Hope, those who liked our stuff enjoy our music every now and then
Another Update in the OP !! Since many people wanted to see a faster song than crusaders live I linked the video of one of our newer songs to the OP. Have fun and feel free to comment (here or at youtube)

I noticed you guys are tanked #1 now with 19.3% good to see. I hate having to sit through boring screamo bands when you go to an awesome concert.
gl hf with the gig!
BTW - if you get a chance to go, Kataklysm is freakin great live.
Hey, thank you!!
I hate boring bands at the beginnning of concerts, too. I bought the Kataklysm live CD some time ago and its really good, although the songs get quite boring after some while imo. But If you dont listen to them for some time they are good again
I hope I can watch them there as well as Marduk and Morbid Angel. Marduk are a great live band, too!
Finally we have only one day to stay at first place! Since its the last day, plz dont be pissed that I bump this once more. Tomorrow it will be over and you will get the results here. Maybe there are still some people who missed this thread and can give us their votes for a bigger lead! Plz make sure we wont end up storkish
PURE AWESOMENESS!!!!! WE actually won and are allowed to open for MORBID ANGEL; KATAKLYSM; MARDUK; KEEP OF KALESSIN and ARSIS !!!
Thank you ALL here at TL for supporting us and giving us alot of votes! I will keep you updated about the event when it happend and will post pics of us with the gods of Metal when we are able to get some !!
I cant tell how happy I am atm and just want to say THANK YOU again and again!
You guys have a great sound, I just love the melody, definately some talent there. Personally I'm not a fan of growling but hey I still think you guys rock so that says a lot.
Well,.... Metalfest is over now. We had an awesome night and a great gig. As promised I took alot of pics and I will write a blog about the whole event and post it here. But not today, to tired after watching 80 minutes of Morbid Angel!!!!
I update this post tomorrow and put the pics up. Stay tuned!
Please also acknowledge the support of non-metalheads such as myself, who voted for you too. ^^Sounds like an awesome experience and very nice pictures although I have no clue who is who and why he is important.:D
Haha, of course! I am glad for everyone who voted for us. If you did vote also you are not a metalhead, I also appreciate it as nice community support!!! And it REALLY was an awesome experience!

I didnt meet them... But I saw a part of their gig and they played good! Hadnt seen them before....
