I honestly think doing tons of pushups just has a lot to do with being good at pushups..

I can do a fair few dips in multiple sets, the same with pull ups, and even more with chin-ups, but I still give in after about 25-30 pushups.

^^ its not a physical thing, more of a mental thing energies. if you get someone to force you to do more pushups then you have in the past, your body goes numb and you can complete however many pushups.

Well, I just gave it a shot and did 40. Although I only just woke up and i'm still a bit groggy, I don't know if it had anything to do with a mental state, as far as I could see, it just got a point where my arms and chest didn't want to support my body, a couple more and I would have collapsed.

Does anyone know what percentage of your bodyweight you are "benching" in a pushup?

I did about 120 the first time... but I'm physically fit so yea... it doesn't count... o_O

I have also noticed a difference between pushups, I do full range pushups where my chest touches the ground, but I have seen soccer/football players training and they go down a tiny bit and come back up and do it at a rapid pace, I think I could probably do a hundred of those ones.

Honestly, I can guarantee lots of the people who say that they can just churn out 60-100 have shitty form.

I just did initial test, and got 102, I guess I'm done with the program!! WOW It works, what a success!!

At my school they have this tape for push-ups and sit-ups. It goes "Down, Up, Down, Up" for like 80 push ups or situps. Whenever we have fitness tests and need to log push up count or sit up count, we do them to this tape so people can't cheat by doing rapid ups and downs. Other guidelines apply also. To really define a "push-up" we need a tape of this sort on the website.

The school tape goes slower than any sane person does push-ups, and as such is a lot harder as well. I got 28 following the tape, which is pretty high amongst everyone else.
No dough, no go. And no mercy.

yeah thsi program started to be full of shit a bout in week 5 where i maxed out in mid 40s and they told me i should do a 36-40-30-24-40+set with 60sec in betwene
uh no.

so i moved down to mid column for w5
but week6 came aroudn and i found myself cheating on form

im at about 50consec level now with 2second lower, 1second raise, proper form. i can do w6 and probably 100 with shitty form and quicker lower/raises (like one per second LOL) but who the hel ldoes that impress? i've made a lot of progress over the past 1-2months so i'm happy with where i am

I used to be able to do about 40-50 consec but after the xmas eating and inactivity over the holidays I daresay it is closer to 20-30 now xD

Luckily got some cool pushup things for xmas from my sis which kind of stick to the ground and have handles so you can twist while doing a pushup and use a lot more muscles.

I was into the beginning of week four when my shoulders were hurting so much that I had to stop. Mind you, I was warmed up properly every time and had the idea of being somewhat "trained" but I could hardly sleep due to the shoulder pain. Maybe it was simply too much or I had a bad technique, yet since they have re-done the program I might give it another chance.
