If you ever run into spider problems, you could spray down the area with some kind of ammonia based cleaner. Spiders "taste" through their feet, essentially as if they had tongues on their feet. So walking over an area cleaned with ammonia is fairly painful for spiders as you can imagine. Spiders are drawn to wood products also by the way. This means paper, cardboard, wood furniture, etc. If you have a large number of boxes you don't move around much under your bed for example, then you may be attracting them. Switching over to plastic containers/boxes will deter them.

An easy way to kill spiders in those hard to reach spots or that are just too big/fast to make grabbing with a tissue easy is to use a vacuum cleaner. I've got one of those crazy Shark vacs that can suck up bolts/quarters/etc with ease so spiders get sucked up if they even get near the nozzle.

By the way, I hate spiders. If you haven't noticed.

If you have spiders in your room then you have something for them to eat in there as well. Take away their food source and they'll go away.

If you are concerned about spider bites, there are a few things you can do that will help prevent them. Shake any clothing that has been laying on the floor or stored before putting it on. Check shoes and boots before putting them on... Shake out the linens on infrequently used beds prior to sitting on the bed. In general, spiders don't bite humans unless they are pinched or cornered, as in trapped between skin and clothing.

I had the same thing happen with a mouse once. It was like 2am, and I had just turned the lights out and was trying to go to sleep. In the dimly lit room I see something jump off of me and onto my window ledge. I immediately jumped up and turned the lights on, and got a rolled up magazine. I slammed a book on the windowsill and a mouse dove down to my bed and bolted for safety. I got like 2 near misses at it but it got under a dresser. I spent like 20 minutes angrily moving everything in the room around, looking for how the little bastard could have gotten in my room. Never found the mouse, nor a possible entrance, so I still have no idea what happened to it.
