Games Done Quick is a series of charity video game marathons. These events feature high-level play by speedrunners raising money for charity. Games Done Quick has teamed up with several charities throughout its history, such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Millions of dollars have been donated to great charities, thanks to the GDQ speedrunning marathons, and many prizes have been awarded to those who donate!
Here is the main website for Games Done Quick: https://gamesdonequick.com/
Awesome Games Done Quick is the annual GDQ marathon performed in the winter, while Summer Games Done Quick is the annual GDQ marathon performed in the summer. This year, SGDQ is from Sunday, June 23rd to Sunday, June 30th.
Here is the schedule of all the SGDQ'19 games that will have speedruns, along with the names of the runners, expected run times, the category/ type of speedrun, and donation incentives (prizes you can win by donating during a specific speedrun, additional caveats you can create for the speedrunners, etc.): https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule

You're very early this year. Let's hope for some epic runs!

No kidding, I was like, what the what, already? I feel like yesterday was AGDQ but damn 2019 in general has gone so quickly. Thanks for getting this up!
edit: Also looking at the lineup, good mix of games in there. Hope to see some world records.

Three days away!!!
Schedule isn't as jam-packed with my personal favorites as in the past, but I'm looking forward to watching a bunch of games I wouldn't otherwise watch. Plus, any Punch-Out game with Zallard1 will automatically be great, Banjo-Kazooie should be fun even without Stiv, Octopath and Majora's Mask are two of my favorite Nintendo games, and I'm interested in watching a Let's Go Pikachu/ Eevee speedrun.
|
Puwexil on glichless any% Chrono Trigger to finish things out should be nice

As usual I'm mostly here for that old N64 stuff and (precision) plattformers. Not too happy about the lineup. Feels like I say this every year by now.
Runs I'll definitely watch though no matter what. Basically my personal Must-sees:
Banjo Kazooie: The first two Banjo games (and SM64) embody everything I love about games
Star Fox 64: Same as BK above. Peppy is the goat.
LoZ MM 100%: One of my favorite games of all time run by one of my favorite runners (MajinPhil) who got me into speedrunning ages ago. A 4 hour run but with like no downtimes or boredom.
Pokemon Crystal Any% Glitchless: You never choose wrong with Pokemon. And Keizaron is just such a great and funny guy. Hopefully Shenanagans is there. His understanding of Pokemon games is insane and him and Keizaron work so well as a duo. Love their banter.
Brood War Protoss Campaign (Bonus Incentive): Don't need to say anything about this. We are on TL and it's run by KingDime
Link to the Past + Super Metroid Combo Randomizer: I have no clue what this is but I want it.
Stuff I'll catch if I have some time at my hands:
All the Legend of Zelda stuff: Never a bad choice.
-Minish Cap -LoZ Randomizer Race: This just screams fun -Botw -OoT Any% (Bonus incentive)
Tony Hawks Underground 2: One of my favourite games growing up
Dark Souls 1 & 2: Feeling like a complete failure watching a run of DS. Sounds like fun, right guys?
Split Second: One of my guilty pleasure games. Racing game with a lot of over the top explosions. Yes please
Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy 2: Just like LoZ just something you never go wrong with
Grand Poo World 2: Insanely hard + Nostalgia + Mitch = Worth a watch
Super Mario Bros 3 four man race (Bonus incentive): Nostalgia paired with a race including great runners/personalities like Poo and Mitch. This sounds awesome
Downsides for me are that I'm really missing some precision plattformers. Stuff like the I wanna be.. series or Super Meat Boy but you can't have everything. If I have overlooked something please tell me. Also I'm really not a fan of Chrono Trigger finishing the Marathon. It's a 6 hour bore for me but that's just my personal opinion of course
Now that I have typed everything out and after I looked at the bonus incentives I've actually realized that I can be really happy with the lineup. Quite a few Must-sees for me and tons of 'If you have time' stuff. This is gonna be a good week full of watching awesome speedruns and probably me playing through some of the N64 games which were just destroyed beforehand on stream. Can't wait.
At times like this it's hard to be a student. No mandatory attendance at University, a lot of Beer that needs to be consumed before it goes bad and a Girlfriend that is on a 1 week trip
|
|
I'm definitely with you on preferring platformers and N64 games, TheNewEra. Lineup isn't perfect for me, but I'll look at this schedule as a way for me to broaden my horizons
|
Ah, nothing better to kill the hype than a subscriber only chat.
I might tune in for Diablo and Minecraft, random seed sounds fun!

Any great stuff I already missed? Only watched THUG 2 so far

How come the SGDQ stream is not featured anywhere on the right side this time?
|
Hell ya Nuclear Throne. Breath of the wild is fun too. Hoping for good runs!

Currently at 171k....IIRC they did hit the 2m mark on the last day last GDQ. They should hit it again. Hard to say if they will beat last year's record though.
Several of my favourites are during when I sleep so it looks like I'll be waiting for the relevant vods later on...

Can't wait for the Metroid Prime block. Definitely worth staying awake for (still convincing myself of this)

No halo this year?

Kingdime's run is supposedly going to be this wednesday as bonus game 3 right after the Red Alert 3 Soviet Campaign

He's doing another one? Awesome (He did one this morning.)
|
Are there plans for a Sigil run in Doom?
|
The Titanfall 2 run was very entertaining. I already enjoy the campaign for its level design and movement mechanics, but it was cool seeing a speedrunner break all that to zoom through the levels at breakneck speeds.
|
Wow there were like a 140.000 people watching on twitch the other day
|
Yeah i never played Titanfall but enjoyed that run. Though if we were to belive him almost every other trick was "hardest in the game".

This Pokemon Crystal run is a lot of raucous fun, but I'm also a Jojo fan.
|
I feel like this incentive for Starcraft is way too high (there is still over 30k missing as i write this).
|
It is less than 15k to go and the C&C run is long and will bring in lots of donationes to make it happen.
Also the Starcraft interverview with Dime, when you fully understand all the "speedrun" tech of the game.

Raelcun!!! And Tim Curry!!!

And was that J.K.Simmons as US president? Forgot about that.

Did Raelcun run BW before at GDQ or was it just SC2?
|
|
That was an awesome run, good job Dime! I saw you stream a little bit of practice where mission #7 wasn't being too kind to you so happy to see you nail it the first time
Also the commentary was really good, both guys on the couch had great voices for it and it was really informative. Twitch chat loved it! I remember Raelcun from the iCCup days, not sure who the other guy was but both did great!

Only thing that I would've liked if they went easy on the dragoon and AI stuff. They were really overblowing how bad the AI is imo. Too bad Dime couldn't showcase the archon hallucination trick either, but a fun run.
Also, I would've liked to see the terran campaign instead. That would be really rough imo.

Broodwar was by far the best sc game story wise. So much good moments. That was a nostalgic very nostalgic journey for me. Thank You.

Originally the submission was intended to be a bid war between protoss and United Earth Directorate campaigns but Freezards ils showed 4 missions with doom dropship strats and I thought that would be meh for an audience. Toss campaign is full od variety and the timed mission is atleast interesting.
|
How long would all three campaigns take? Maybe i am mistaken but You looked tense before and during the run. Was it more stressful than DOOM runs? Also the interview was a little werid, speedruning comunity isnt used to RTS and competetive games
|
Can someone share the twitch link for the SCBW run please?

Grand Poo World 2 was fantastic, especially Bowser.

I was tense having a few failures in private practice with the countdown mission. A badly timed save is disastrous in doom but time loss is incremental unlike failing a build order in BW speedrunning.

All Super Mario runs were awesome. The relay race and the extra game race were so entertaining.
|
Relay race was indeed very entartaining, later i switched to HomeStoryCup.

How was the broodwar run ?
And which are the best runs of this event ofc (speedrunner commentary standpoint ofc)?

And which are the best runs of this event ofc (speedrunner commentary standpoint ofc)? The Blindfolded punchout run and the directly following Pokemon Crystal run were in my opinion 2 of the best GDQ runs of all time for completely different reasons. Just start with the Punchout run and lean back for the next 5 hours.
The BW run was also pretty great. Nostalgic af, good run and a great couch.
|
Did the Pokemon Crystal run stay entertaining 2 hours in? I started watching at the start and then paused a bit only to come back around 1h to see total chaos lol. Stuff was probably the most creative marathon runs I've seen, entertainment-wise.

Was entertaining the whole run. Complete madness at times Otherwise they wouldn't have managed to raise more than 100k during a single 3 hour run on a GDQ Tuesday

Agreed. I try to watch these every year, even the old-school ones and they never disappoint.

Celeste TAS was amazing again. Must watch for anyone even if you don't usually watch Celeste and/or TAS.

That was a great crossover run. And now to the last game for this years gdq...

Puwexil is like the king of closing out GDQs at this point lol. He's ran so many times in the last slot (which makes me happy because he runs my favorite games).
|
yeah this is a great way to end it for me, puwexil and the couch are doing a great job (as always) of explaining the choices being made
|
It's amazing how much more watchable this is when people are actually talking about the game and explaining what's going on, making a few jokes here and there but generally being adults as opposed to turning it into a complete clown show with nonstop shitty memes

A lot of the FF/Chronotrigger runners are cool though. The runners who did FF7 last time pretty much had their commentary laid out for the entire 8+ hour run. It was extremely impressive

Whats with "dont let people on reddit tell you otherwise" about speedruns on gdq?

Of course there's no need for the crowd to get involved in the antics but I don't think it's a coincidence that the crowd's also keeping it together when there's no one with a mic acting like a middle school class clown the entire time... and I'm not just talking about the run before this, plenty of runs where this seems to be the case. I'm being That Guy here, I don't want to hate on all these people or anything, I get that some of them are young and nervous and all that...
I do remember watching some of that FF7 run, was definitely one of the better ones.

Over $3 million donated as the final count. Absolutely incredible, entertaining event. The hype donation train during the Chrono Trigger run was a sight to behold.
|
For all my bitching earlier, I have to appreciate the people who keep making this event happen every six months. 3 million is insane. And it is 150+ hours of free entertainment after all.
|
Wicked push for 3 million, keeping eyes glued to the tracker watching the numbers fly sky high. See you all in Orlando

On top of SGDQ and AGDQ, I have watched their streams for shorter charity runs over US holiday weekends, and I know they did something almost literally on the fly for Hurricane Harvey just days after it happened. I know the old-school streamers don't like them much anymore, but you can't argue with GDQ's organisation and the ability to pull off what they do.
