'The tournament' doesn't have a male requirement, women can and sometimes do participate. It makes sense to only label the restrictive type. That said I do find the word 'female' a bit weird and gamery, would rather use 'women's tournaments' like most other sports/competitions do.

I mean I can get behind female being a bit weird, in an awkward nerd kind of way, but I still can't understand how it is offensive.
Aside from that I agree with the first point, at least in esports you don't have men only tournaments, so labeling them the men and women tourneys would be factually wrong. But either way the idea that 'female tournament' as opposed to 'women's tournament' is a cause of outrage is just ridiculous. If we said tournament for hoes and bitches, then yeah, sure, fight us on that, but female isn't offensive, no more than male would be.

I would happily use the term ‘female tournament’ to describe a tournament in which both women and girls can compete, which many eSports events could conceivably see. It’s not exclusively a women’s tournament if youngsters may be present in numbers, it’s neither a girl’s tournament if adult women are also prevalent.

I have no issue acknowledging that I have a lot of room for improvement. If I wanted to deflect or I was triggered, I would be defensive. The easiest one to pull would have been "sorry, not a native speaker / don't care about the non german scene". I don't think anyone is particularly "outraged" by that particular "microaggression" but I already mentioned the dehumanizing aspect and pointed out the obvious (maybe less so for people from elsewhere) problem with using "female identifying" as liquipedia's way of being trans-inclusive.
Would you refer to the participants in these "female tournaments" as "females" or would you call them "women"? Would you bother distinguishing the cis women from the trans women or just call them all women?
I didn't want to open this can of worms, but I'm also pretty sure there's a healthy contingent of people here and otherwise that believe referring to trans women as "females" or "female identifying" is just literally/scientifically/rhetorically incorrect.

That could be interesting. Not sure if you saw but I had previously questioned you on how the women you’ve coached etc found the wider scene and if it was welcoming or hostile etc.

Sure but anyone getting mad at it is just looking for a reason to be mad, and if not this something else. It would be especially questionable if the person mad about it constantly complains that the thread is not talking about the hard hitting issues.

I agree it's not offensive or some big outrage, just a bit cold in the context of a community/hobby group since we're used to seeing male and female in data, or nature documentaries, or medical and police reports, and impersonal contexts like that.
