This us vs them and tribalism stuff needs to get fucked. None if this is actually about solving problems. it’s one of the hits. billy joel doesn’t take the stage and just not sing piano man. I'd be interested in learning just what % of time Trump and Vance spent in their respective debates just banging on about immigration and how it's a terrible, horrible thing that's destroying America, I bet an edit of their debates with all the gratuitous mentions of immigration cut out would be quite a bit shorter. Like sure, you would expect Billy Joel to rattle off Piano Man, but if he spent 90 minutes of his 2-hour set just playing Piano Man over and over and over, you'd be forgiven for thinking he somehow ran out of other stuff to play. That's what the Republicans are doing, they're playing on repeat the single hit they always fall back on, and hope people don't get fucking sick of it. Unfortunately, a lot of their supporters really love listening to that track on repeat, because they're the party of "Everyone else ought to lift themselves up by their bootstraps in the currently-perfect and currently-fair system, but if I can't succeed for any reason, it's because of people who don't look like me." Xenophobia / prejudice / racism are great excuses for them to never take responsibility for themselves while scolding everyone else, and Trump's Piano Man makes them feel validated. To be fair, Trump's Piano Man has been the US's theme song for a couple centuries. Even many people that know it's a problematic song can't help but sing along and then get mad at the Trumpers for not singing it with them (Democrats frustration at Republicans not helping them pass anti-immigrant legislation for example). On the note of the immigration bill that Democrats tried to pass, I'm not upset that it was killed personally, but I think they're absolutely correct to point out that they earnestly tried to pass it and Republicans of all people killed it at Trump's behest. It's the most naked ploy on their part to maintain a wedge issue instead of taking an opportunity to solve it, handed to them by the Democrats even. It was a bipartisan issue! Republicans: We run on solving a problem! Democrats: We want to help solve that problem! Republicans: Never mind, we don't want to address the problem anymore. That's literally what happened. Again, I would rather we not pass such sweeping anti-immigrant legislation, so I didn't mind the outcome. If you squint, what the Democrats did there could pass as 7D chess maneuvering. But they made a swing, and by all accounts the Republicans should have been on board. They're correct to call out the Republicans in nakedly moving to keep a wedge issue a wedge issue just so they can cynically continue to run on it. Just like you're correct to point out that the song is problematic, and that they shouldn't be joining in the chorus to begin with. But this is how it turned out. This was basically the entire theme of Obama's presidency. He'd offer Republicans their own ideas, Republicans would reject them, then Democrats would move even further to the right to try to appease them next time. People recognized it was pretty foolish to keep falling for that a decade ago. Presenting them going through the same kabuki on immigration as some novel revelation/"7D chess" is just peak copium. What Democrats effectively did/are doing with their harping on Republicans for not singing along with them, is move the left bound of what can be done for immigrants much further right for no meaningful benefit. I don't disagree, I wish they weren't moving in this direction on immigration, it's ceding ground on the issue and letting the Republican-led rhetoric drive the entire conversation, which is more or less my core issue with the Democrats. I think the bigger issue I have is that, in a world of logic and facts, Democrats should have Republicans nailed to the wall over their hypocrisy given how it played out. But it probably won't matter, the people who need to be convinced that being anti-immigrant is problematic can't be convinced.

The ACA (Democrats biggest achievement of like half? the electorate's life) is already a Republican healthcare plan to the right of Nixon's healthcare plan.
The ratchet effect is real and it's been whoopin Democrats supporters asses for decades. Not something you can just wish away while supporting them moving the direction you ostensibly oppose.

Of course he is saying that Biden-Harris's border policies make them culpable for her murder in Trump-esque fashion. You don't actually have to provide an alibi for Kamala for that day.

Trump said that Harris murdered her, not kidnapped and raped and murdered her. And yes, he blamed both Harris and Hernandez. Trump's exact words about Harris were "She murdered her. In my opinion, Kamala murdered her, just like she had a gun in her hand."
And I feel like you're saying that Trump implied culpability but then why should we care because it's just Trump lying. Murder is, like, illegal and wrong and stuff, so it's a big deal... and Trump didn't "imply" anything; he stated it very clearly.

In another bout of erudite literalism, Biden recently announced he's reentering the race for president at a White House press conference, something he probably impulsively decided after losing his octogenarian temper at an unseemly reporter's prodding, "Do you regret dropping out?" And then with the same lack of respect that has typified this entire dumpster fire administration, everyone in the vicinity just laughed at the demented old racist to his face. He probably doesn't even realize how many ballot deadlines he's already missed.

I mean it's pretty easy to decipher when you add the context back in. What he actually said was "I'm outraged she let in the savage that raped and murdered Rachel Morin. She murdered [her]. In my opinion, Kamala murdered [her]. Just like she had a gun in her hand."
Two pretty big clues there. The first is he says that Kamala let in the savage that raped and murdered her which is pretty big hint that he's not speaking literally when he says Kamala murdered her. The other clue he's not speaking literally is when he says "She had a gun in her hand" because Rachel Morin wasn't shot. She had her head bashed in. I think even Trump supporters can figure out he's not talking literally and I suspect DPB knows that as well unless he's Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory and has very rigid thinking.

Don't be a tool and don't fabricate things. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to think Biden is old and over-the-hill; you don't need to make up a new one.

First of all, Trump definitely doesn't give a shit about how the victim was murdered. Second, of course Trump is going to accuse Harris of anything and everything illegal, because that's the classic whataboutism that his supporters will pivot to - "Trump may have done X or Y, but at least he didn't murder anyone like Harris did". Trump said it. Period. You may think he doesn't believe it, but what matters is what his voters believe.

They fire bullets? What's your point? As I said, Rachel Morrin wasn't shot. Are you insinuating that it's possible Kamala used this metaphorical gun to murder Rachel Morrin by bashing her head in with the butt end of it so maybe Trump was speaking literally?

I know. My point is it would be weird to not understand this logical conclusion and instead to try to argue that Trump wasn't at the capitol at the time Ashli Babbitt was shot. DPB is offering a defense that Kamala didn't literally murder someone while sticking his head in the sand over the fact that Trump was obviously speaking metaphorically. It's just really strange.

And then with the same lack of respect that has typified this entire dumpster fire administration, everyone in the vicinity just laughed at the demented old racist to his face. He probably doesn't even realize how many ballot deadlines he's already missed. Watch the video you just linked. He said it sarcastically, grinned, and people laughed at his joke. Don't be a tool and don't fabricate things. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to think Biden is old and over-the-hill; you don't need to make up a new one. He literally said it. He stated it very clearly. With the same blank expression he always has. We don't need you Harats to deny reality and run interference like this. You really think the average voter would be capable of figuring out he was actually "joking" if he was as you claim? Clearly he's deranged, and wanting revenge on the people who pushed him out, meaning especially Kamala who replaced him. What better way than to falsely claim he's back in the race, causing a vote split as all the people who would never vote for the first black woman president decide to write in Biden instead. The only "joke" is that he'll be having the last laugh when he collapses the Democratic party out of spite with election interfering stunts like this. You can't just say something and mean it differently than what the words are. What on unearthly fuck are you talking about?
He's clearly satirizing people's eagerness to take Trump literally that Kamala murdered someone while dismissing Biden's statement as being unserious. Apparently you get to pick and choose when to take something literally and when to ignore the context that someone is not speaking literally.
