Absolutely heartbreaking and unnecessary loss of life. I'd like to think this will convince Republicans that more guns doesn't help and that what we really need is regulation, but I've unfortunately seen this play out before.

Like I said Biden does not matter, you could have a house cat as the opponent of a Rep right now and it comes down to whether you think everything awful is the deepstates fault or if maybe there is some actual issues to tackle.

And yes the cat could tackle them better than Trump because the cat won't reverse what little exists.

Edit: the Ted Cruz answer is more gunz! Damn all these other countries without gunz do not have this problem, but the USA which has the most gunz and the most shootings, I KNOW I KNOW what will fix it, MORE GUNZ!!!

You know inevitably, when there's a murderer of this kind, you see politicians try to politicize it, you see Democrats and a lot of folks in the media whose immediate solution is to try to restrict the constitutional rights of law abiding citizens. That doesn't work. It's not effective. It doesn't prevent crime,” he said.
Instead, Cruz advocated for more armed law enforcement resources on school campuses.

“There's no doubt we need to do more to keep children in school safe. We know from past experience one of the most effective tool for keeping kids safe is armed law enforcement on the campus. We don't know the details of what happened at Robb Elementary School, but there will be a lot of time to examine what steps could have been taken proactively to enhance the safety and security of the school right now," he said.

It’s almost like other countries exist that one could take a look at (see healthcare)

We don’t need to know the details Ted, fuck up already.

Maladjusted loner takes out a bunch of innocent lives to compensate for their self loathing, because they have tools that enable them to do this.

Quel surprise

Funnily enough, there's a party in the US that already touts this exact shit. It's called the Libertarian Party.

And our government will say that we need more police, more guns, more armed teachers, everything to "protect" kids while letting them get murdered.

May the names and the memories of all Texas GOP members be erased.

I fully expect them to propose that we start arming all children in school in addition to the teachers.

I'm sure those who are proponents of private school and banning books, and telling teachers what they can and can't teach, and how they can and can't teach it, have no problem with both students and teachers alike being preoccupied with the worry of being shot dead, while they're at it. The GOP knows an educated population that's able to employ critical thinking is their deathknell.

If this didn't happen so often, I'd be shocked. But honestly, I feel little emotion over this. We know it'll continue happening.

Yeah, interesting how we're not hearing about the right to life for actual children in school. Or for the teachers helping to build up the next generation. If they're on the other end of a gun all their rights are forfeit to the 2nd Amendment.

Pretty sure "well-regulated militia" wasn't referring to killing schoolchildren and teachers. Right before Summer vacation too. Hearing someone say "thoughts and prayers" must feel like getting branded with an iron for all the families.

I think I can safely say that every single GOP politician, media personality, and voter has the blood of these children on their hands.

The GOP is the party of death, misery, and suffering. Pro-life is a complete lie

My wife and I are asking ourselves if it makes sense to send our kid to American schools when this problem just kind of doesn't exist anywhere else. The nature of my career basically makes me a multi-national and I could easily just buy a house somewhere else and have a great job. Am I a bad parent for staying in the US, where these things happen, when I could live somewhere else? Is it selfish to want to remain around family even though this risk is there?

All the parents who lost children today sent their kids to school without any reason to think this would happen, but it did. And while this is by no means a "common" occurrence, statistically speaking, it is hard to swallow the idea of living in the only place in the world where it *does* happen.

Maybe its just that now that I'm raising a baby, these things hit harder, but there's no way this issue will be fixed by the time they're in school. Emotional comfort in family/friends isn't a good trade for my kid to have a statistically lower chance of being shot? The situation is complicated. I'm curious how other parents feel about this. Do you just say "yeah well car crashes happen to, so yolo", or is there a component of this that makes you wonder if this is too much?

I mean, compare to Australia, who had a single mass shooting some 20 years ago, immediately passed comprehensive gun control laws, and the problem mysteriously disappeared. Funny how that works. You can blame mental health, you can blame movies, you can blame video games, you can blame whatever, the, fuck you want. You can say We Need to Return to God, or whatever the fuck your demented rationale is for standing by and letting this happen.

Results all over the world have shown, repeatedly and successfully, that the main variable at play in the United States is the power of monied interests in politics, and the absolute greed and corruption held by our Right-wing extremist leaders, who value the right to own a gun more than the right to go about your life freely, and without fear. They can say whatever they want, but their actions will drown them out every time. Their silence is the story of every kid who got up and thought they were going to school, seeing their friends, complaining about homework, and getting ready for the life ahead of them, and had it all taken away.
