Manchin makes Democrats look weak and stupid and hurts their national image, thus hurting other races in other states. Uhm, fine. Purge them, and republicans have the majority. Now what? How is that helping? The Democrats should have dumped Manchin and planned to work constructively with McConnell when he was renewed as Senate Majority Leader. I mean.. Sure. Now that we're in Lala Land, i think Trump should've ditched all his bigoted views immediately, and work constructively with the democrats to make the US a better country by introducing new and better universal healthcare, cutting the military budget, etc pp and eventually turn into a progressive opening the borders. In reality, you're talking about the guy who did everything he could to fuck democrats over. He actively and deliberately blocked progress on healthcare reforms, banking reforms, manipulating the senate by slowing down the process so much that even routine stuff didn't get done on purpose. The same guy who said that his proudest moment was to block a legitimate nominee for the supreme court because it came from Obama. That guy. The guy who blocked witnesses and evidence from the impeachment trials, to then, once Trump lost the election, turned around and took a big fat shit on him. Yeah. You go and work "constructively" with one of the, if not the biggest obstructionist in the political landscape. Obstructionist purely based on "us vs them". I'd argue that this is so detached from reality, it's not even worth arguing. There's absolutely nothing, not a single thing, to suggest that this would even be an option. Literally(!) all the evidence shows it wouldn't be. He's as tribal as they come. To be fair I don’t think it’s possible to work constructively with McConnell, his thing is making sure things are as unconstructive as possible. Democrats just need to accept trying to win lean majorities, whipping their members hard, and aggressively, like really aggressively, pursue their agenda. People are tired of their weakness and their empty promises. You failed to answer my question. What would become easier if the majority goes to the republicans? It's a genuine question. The fact that you argue to give away a majority (even if half the time it doesn't work out - the other half it does) must mean that there's a process for a government that becomes easier once they lose the majority, and i don't understand how that works. What becomes easier? You're missing the best part. After he didn't show up they thought he was going to open for the rolling stones concert later that day. Once the insane thing doesn't happen they double down onto an even more insane thing. I mean.. lol. The newspaper didn't mention that. Hard to think of something even more insane. Apart from maybe people electing someone from that movement into the government, but here we are.

Trump is by far the favorite to win the Republican nomination again and recently became the betting favorite over Biden to win the 2024 presidential election.

Uhm, fine. Purge them, and republicans have the majority. Now what? How is that helping? It lets you not look like a fuck wit nationally for being incapable of accomplishing your agenda, thus eroding the public's faith in your party's ability to implement it's agenda. Instead, you purge the obstructionist and rebuild in other states. Not like Manchin is going to be in the Senate forever, clinging to him like hes some fucking savior is delusional, as soon as he decides he doesnt wanna be in the Senate any more his seat is going red anyways. Go win more seats in the former-blue-wall, consolidate the sun belt, keep Georgia. Do this through making promises and fighting tooth and nail to keep them instead of letting Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema obstruct you while exclaiming we cant do anything but pray that the public decides to elect more Democrats despite Democrats proving Democrats are incapable/incompetent. In the meantime, they're going to lose all manner of elections (such as the one in Virginia, a state Biden won by 10 points) because their weakness makes them look stupid and Democrat voters dont want to go out and vote for babbling jackasses who can't do their jobs. ???? That post wasnt even directed at you, lol.

Remember that Virginia went for Biden by 10 points just a year ago and seen a real bright spot for the future, especially as a state to make growth with suburbanites and the college educated. If I were to guess, Biden's poor approval was a real burden, coupled with Youngkin making disciplined campaign that kept to local on issues like education while McAuliffe was all over and talking about Trump too much, but that's just what I read on U.S. national news. More or less, don't let anyone tell you it was because the the Democrats couldn't pass their expensive monstrosity that most people don't know the details of. One guy was talking about important issues in Virginia and one was talking about Trump. Happy to see Youngkin do well in suburbs that have swung away from the GOP recently while running up ridiculous better-than-Trump margins in rural counties. Excellent sings for the future. edit: and it's not just Youngkin, GOP going to sweep executive offices and prob flip the state house. good all around! The GOP doesn't need Trump, despite his assertions otherwise. Also he seems to be less relevant than his opposition hopes. also good

That being said, youre right I have no idea what McAuliffe was running on, every ad I remember paying attention to involved Trump or just had some dude saying that he supported McAuliffe. Its a crappy way to run a campaign. But Trump is not a marketing strategy.

This has got to indicate that Democrats are going to get creamed in 2022 midterms, right lol. My question is what lessons, if any, do they attempt to take from it Also I want to take a moment to appreciate that after Donald Trump happened and then the insurrection happened Republicans are still alive and thriving as a party and I find that to be just so wild, lol

On the national scale, it does seem like the Democrats are in trouble. They are attempting to put out a progressive bill and it's killing them. They have 96 or 98% of their Senators willing to vote for the progressive bill and it's making them look terrible because they don't have 100%. That same bill has 0% Republican support, yet people blame the Democrats for not passing it. Trying to accomplish stuff is difficult in the US. The Republicans are making sure of that. The best thing to do would be to look for small wins and make them sound like the greatest things ever. Don't let the Republicans vote against 3.5 trillion spending (over 10 years, shhh), make the Republicans vote against Child Care and Universal Pre-K. Get the bill down to just that and put it on the floor. Make every Republican vote against that.

Democrats face some clear headwinds and this is the first sign of that playing out. Youngkin did an interesting thing by playing the middle-ground of being a "maybe-Trumper." Neither being strongly on his side nor snubbing him entirely, just accepting his support from a distance. I think that's smart and will be replicated to good effect elsewhere. An issue that was talked a lot today that makes me go WTF is the whole "eliminate gifted programs because they're racist" item. The hell are Democrats thinking with that? It seems like a bad idea on its face, more so when you dig into it, and even places like NYC aren't deeply fond of it.

This gov race, from where I’m standing, felt incredibly greedy. Democrats had no reason to ask for so much. It’s not like Biden cruised through to victory. I hope to see democrats playing it incredibly safe in 2022. Covid will hopefully basically be over by then, so no need to make that an issue. Leave critical race theory to the blue states and just hope everyone learns once they’re in college.

Lindsey Graham was trying to get the Capitol Police to shoot the insurrectionists, I'm sure this will play well with his constituency. I doubt theyll remember come election time, but in the meantime this definitely isnt going to earn him any points. https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/579453-graham-told-officers-on-jan-6-to-use-their-guns-on-rioters-report According to a long-form piece published by The Washington Post on Sunday, the Republican senator was furious that lawmakers were being forced to evacuate and yelled at the Senate sergeant-at-arms, "What are you doing? Take back the Senate! You’ve got guns. Use them.” “We give you guns for a reason,” Graham reportedly continued. “Use them.”
