Protesters started occupying the property around the ICE building on Macadam Avenue on Sunday evening, and the protest has grown to include more than two dozen tents and at times hundreds of demonstrators.
An ICE spokeswoman said in an email that the agency will re-open the building when the safety concerns from the protest have been addressed.
Here's the agency's full statement on the closure:
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) fully respects the rights of all people to voice their opinion without interference. ICE remains committed to immigration enforcement consistent with federal law and agency policy. The Federal Protective Service was called to the ICE office on Macadam Avenue Tuesday afternoon due to security concerns resulting from the ongoing protests at this location. Questions regarding arrests that took place should be directed to the Federal Protective Service. ICE operations at this location have been temporarily halted due to security concerns. Normal operations will resume once security concerns have been addressed. “Appointments scheduled for Wednesday at the ICE office on Macadam Avenue have been canceled. ICE deportation officers will touch base with individuals who had scheduled appointments at this location to reschedule. These appointments will not be reported as missed check-ins.”
www.wweek.comAs for clearing out the protesters. It doesn't look like they'll be getting much help from local officials. . You want to stop ICE from abusing and terrorizing people in or around your communities? That's what it's going to take.
I've been suuuuper pleased with Portland's response to ICE. Run those sacks of shit out of town. If anyone can run ICE out of town, its Portland.

Fifty licks is an ice cream truck that has been handing out free ice cream to protestors. They've earned my lifelong business. Salt & straw can go fuck itself.

I would endorse doing that in Boston, but Boston folks would just light the whole office on fire. We have no chill.

They've done worse celebrating sports wins, at least this one would be for a good cause.

The ICE agents would get hurt and the Times would another, somehow dumber opinion about the how civility is gone. People would be all sympathetic about the hurt agents. Chucky baker would say something dumb. Curt shilling would somehow get involved.
We are all better off leaving it to the Portland hipsters.

I laughed. Heartily.
Got to admit, this whole ICE thing is only the second time during this election cycle I've felt true despair. I hope it gets resolved - properly resolved - before long, and I hope it isn't just a prelude to even more awfulness.
How are Faux News spinning this, by the way? Or have even they given up?

I'd say something Bostonian to that but it would be misinterpreted by someone. I'll just reiterate that if people want the horrors to stop, that's what they are going to have to do.

I just looked it up, it is inside the Suffolk county house of corrections. That place is a brutalist fortress. They knew what city they were in.
People are protesting, but that is about it.

Why wear this while traveling to meet children you were campaigning for? Are we being trolled? Is this a cry for help? Trying to create a distraction? I have no idea...
Trump weighs in. I mean it is only a couple weeks after everybody from CNN to Yahoo News was speculating about how long Melania had not been seen by cameras. I hope Melania has something better to offer in her own words.

I love how that directly contradicts the statement from Melania's spokesperson. That he thinks anyone would believe this is laughable and his supporters should feel insulted he would try to sell it to them.

I really don’t understand any more. She wore it on purpose, there is no other explanation.
|
Personally, I like the theory that it was a message to Trump and was about their relationship. She seems done with him. Counting down the days to impeachment/resignation so she can take Barron and leave.
|
I'll guess she just picked whatever was in her wardrobe for the day and never thought much of the writing or forgot there was any. Maybe it was chosen for practicality. I don't see it as a subliminal cry for help or some anti-media spiel that her husband is spinning it as. Sometime blue curtains are just blue curtains, and a jacket with writing is just a jacket with writing, albeit strangely fitting with the times.

I have the hardest time believing she wore a $40 jacket. This lady "gardens" in $200 jeans and a $1500 flannel shirt, a $40 jacket doesn't add up.
The most benign explanation is someone got ripped off. But I can't help to hear the "It's a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today's important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn't going to choose to focus on her wardrobe."
*bald guy hair flick*
In the most stereotypical snarkiest bougie gay publicist voice I can imagine.

I dunno, to me, it just seems extremely odd that she'll wear that. It's not even a cost thing but you would think that someone with her will see what's written and tell her that it may be wise to change if she didn't notice meh.

Nothing more mature and fit for the highest office in your entire country than taunting messages on the back of discounter jackets. But we already had Trump throwing candy at Merkel so not even sure if that's the new low.

This is a thread that leads to a Washington post story. This is exactly what the former ICE director said would happen. Some of these parents have lost their children forever because of our government. People bitched and moaned about catch and release like it was something terrible. It turns out they didn’t really have context for what truly terrible looks like. It’s this.

I think that the possibility of falling off the earth was enough of a deterrent for the people who didnt even have the ships capable of making that trip for most of history.
Its like how tomatoes were posion. Yeah probably not but why take a risk?

That's like saying that the possibility of Pacman-ing off the edge of the map and finding yourself deep underground was what kept people from going into space for most of human history. Probably not a real thing, but why take the risk.
