Don't you realize that some people throwing bricks at buildings are the real enemy, not the POTUS inciting a civil war? They have the real power! Genuine question - is it still whataboutism if Danglars has openly condemned the Proud Boys? I think Danglars' frustration comes from us being much, much slower to condemn antifa (I know I sure am) despite them (whatever 'them' means) engaging in violence and vandalism. I can appreciate that frustration. Props to JimmiC for that post, though. I didn't know that Biden had openly spoken out about the violence. I'm assuming that's the statement that I've heard talked about as coming too late / only after consideration, though? Yes it still is, because Antifa for all the reasons outlined in various is not nearly the threat of groups like the proud boys. And the goal is to distract from Trump. We can discuss it separately but as the quotes show it is not a issue. It is completely made up. Danglars does not fact check his "news" sources (which I guess kinda makes sense if you think it is news) but they continually leave out extremely perinate issues over and over. I find it impossible to take it in good faith that Danglars believes that Biden supports antifa when he participates in this thread and gets his jollies insulting Biden with the people in our thread that would be most most likely to be part of antifa and support them. They hate Biden for not being left enough, for not being radical enough, for being a vote for no change. This is just his standard move of pretending to be reasonable and laying on the manufactured outrage at 10 while ignoring all the actual facts that disagree with his version.
Gotcha. I was taking Danglars' message to be along the lines of "Antifa is/has been harmful and should be disavowed on those grounds" and was not seeing the connection to Biden or Proud Boys, so I wasn't seeing the whataboutism in this particular round of conversation.
Upon re-reading it (I'd missed some posts) I can see where the charge of whataboutism is coming from, and again think your rebuttal was pretty fair and on-point.

Well, Hope Hicks has a confirmed case, so Trump's in quarantine for now. He's going to be in rough shape if he actually has it as an obese old man.
|
Boris Johnson had it and doesn't seem to be much worse off now.
I just realized how many national leaders are obese old men. Is JT the most fit national leader in the world? He must be up there and he's not even that fit!

Isn't Johnson 20 years younger?

I also always forget just how old Trump is. I guess his bright orange makeup is pretty effective at making you forget he's ancient.

Trump and Melania have both tested positive for COVID.
I always thought there was a pretty high possibility that one of the candidates was going to get it, and Trump's open air rallies without masks were basically begging for him to get it.
He's very high risk based on his age, diet, and weight. That said, it's completely random sometimes as to who is strongly impacted or not by it.
|
He's had some close calls with rallies and eating at the same table with one of Bolsonaro's aides who tested positive, so doesn't exactly surprise me. Despite his health concerns like age and the speculated obesity, I feel Trump is fine. He has access to the finest medical treatment available and COVID also has many asymptomatic cases or relatively mild ones. So... I guess the next debates are cancelled?
I hope Biden is getting frequent testing because while they did distance the debate stands quite a bit, all that spittle and shouting is a great way to spread the virus I'd think.

Yeah he is guaranteed the most advanced medical care on the planet. He will likely be fine.
|
Yeesh, that's a helluva plot twist for 2020. Not unsurprising, but he's definitely the most high profile world leader to have caught it. He's also one of the worst off. Risk factors for sure are obesity and age, and most likely poor nutrition. He's also in poor physical shape, given that he does little exercise.
There's a helluva hoax if I've seen one.

There's also the fact that he seems to not understand medicine in the slightest, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he just ... refuses a known cure.
Access to and making use of best medical care are different things. The man has really bad judgement issues on medical treatment, as we've seen in the past year.
edit: Oh, and having spent the past 9 months attacking every expert on COVID-19 may make it hard for him to get the same level of care as previous presidents.

While I'm sure he'd get the best care you could get, I don't know that that really makes you immune to disease somehow. As a somewhat analogous case, Boris Johnson had a worrisome saga with his infection, with a brief point in time when survival wasn't really guaranteed. If he were 20 years older, I'm sure he'd be dead by now despite being an important politician.

Wow. 2020 indeed. Mocking Biden for wearing a mask took a very ugly turn for himself there.
I hope he recovers. I want his presidency ended, not him as a human being.

I'm sure professional responsibility overrides any personal feelings about who you're treating. The standard of care for a VIP like Trump is going to be as good as it gets.
|
Yeah I hope he recovers too to face election loss and then justice for various crimes. Hard to feel very sorry for him when he's been doing huge indoor rallies with people he discourages from wearing masks. I wonder if like Johnson he will treat covid seriously after experiencing it himself.
|
its gonna be so easy for biden to call trump out on his dumbass covid treatment advice when trump himself doesnt take it.

Bolsonaro had covid and still claimed that hydroxychloroquine worked for him. Trump can say whatever he wants about his own treatment--it's not like people can easily fact-check that.
