(is the church/community one? Love that) Edit: Mohdoo, can you link a livestream? Nothing on YT and I refuse reddit. Well it was actually a worse clip with TI's speech and only half of killer mikes. I guess I'll link it anyway: www.youtube.com

Rioting is ineffective though. It would be much cooler to see a general strike although I’m sure the effectiveness would be greatly reduced due to the pandemic. Keep in mind the news media makes money off eyeballs and selling fear is a great way to get that, so they’re always going to overplay the magnitude of rioting. If you had 10K people peacefully protesting and one guy smashing windows, the broken windows will be what gets coverage.

You certainly don't fix problems by looting shops and burning down police stations. Being heard, okay, but once you aren't part of the violent crowd, who's going to stop them from targeting you? The hypocrisy of criticizing China for suppressing the same stuff in HK will come out at least. How would the administration have a moral high ground here? It gets more disastrous by the day and I hope there's some positive outcome. Maybe in Trumpland someone still has the sanity to stop pushing for confrontational foreign policy and fix the problems in the country instead.

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — As unrest spread across dozens of American cities on Friday, the Pentagon took the rare step of ordering the Army to put several active-duty U.S. military police units on the ready to deploy to Minneapolis, where the police killing of George Floyd sparked the widespread protests. Soldiers from Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Fort Drum in New York have been ordered to be ready to deploy within four hours if called, according to three people with direct knowledge of the orders. Soldiers in Fort Carson, in Colorado, and Fort Riley in Kansas have been told to be ready within 24 hours. The people did not want their names used because they were not authorized to discuss the preparations. The person said the military units would be deployed under the Insurrection Act of 1807, which was last used in 1992 during the riots in Los Angeles that followed the Rodney King trial. “If this is where the president is headed response-wise, it would represent a significant escalation and a determination that the various state and local authorities are not up to the task of responding to the growing unrest,” said Brad Moss, a Washington D.C.-based attorney, who specializes in national security. Active-duty forces are normally prohibited from acting as a domestic law enforcement agency. But the Insurrection Act offers an exception. The statute “is deliberately vague” when it comes to the instances in which the Insurrection Act could be used, he said. The state’s governor could ask President Donald Trump to take action or Trump could act on his own authority if he’s determined that the local authorities are so overwhelmed that they can’t adequately enforce the law, Vladeck said. apnews.com

I agree many cops have an irrational fear when making arrests. I also agree that some number of cops clearly have an irrational fear of black men which leads them to treat them in an inhumane way. What I don't like is when one of these idiot cops kills someone and it validates an entire narrative condemning all police, which then in turn leads people to seek outlandish levels of retribution against people that vocally support their cause. It doesn't matter that there are good cops when they let the bad ones get away with this shit. Where are the 'good' cops taking action when 'bad' cops get away with murder? Do they protest? are there strikes? Or does the 1 guy that speaks up quietly get fired to hide what is going on? This is why police in other countries takes abuse seriously. Because that is the only way to keep the public trust. The police in the US are rightly lost that trust through a history of inaction.

I also want to throw out there that some of the damage in the riots is being stoked by the police themselves. They're literally joining in the crowd and starting shit so their friends can barge in and start shooting. They're escalating all over the fucking place.
