Personally I wonder whether a president who shuts down the government and asserts that it is his shutdown and that it was his idea is taking care to faithfully execute the laws. He is in fact shutting down the execution of laws. A shutdown is supposed to be an exercise by Congress of its power of the purse (according to the Republican reasoning used to justify the 2014 shutdown). Clearly the current shutdown was initiated by the president so I dont imagine they have a real argument to defend it.

If r/politics is anything to go by (which, granted, is rather left leaning right now), then at least 1/3 of articles posted on the subject blames Mitch for not not doing his job. It hasn't gone under the radar for the people who already hate him, but it might very well do for republicans who doesn't see through his shenanigans.

Worrying signs that some of the Dems are wavering. They're done if they cave on this. How many need to break ranks before Trump can get what he wants without the mainline Democrats?

Polling while people aren't been paid and are pissed off is always going to lead to these kinds of results.

BTW, got to love Guiliani changing his defense from "there was no collusion " to "The campaign may have colluded but Trump didnt." If Guiliani changing his stance is a barometer for how much trouble Trump is in, then we are in Def Con 2.

The only way McConnell doesn’t do this is if someone pulls a McCain and breaks ranks without messaging anything to leadership. But they would need several senators to join with Democrats to do this, so its unlikely. And Trump’s plan to be invited to the Senate is super funny. Just feed the democrats more B-roll of Trump forcing people to protect him and the Republicans without pay.

I doubt it. Secret Service is there to prevent Trump from being hurt/hurting himself. They'll probably talk to the House sergeant at arms, like reasonable people, and help prevent Trump from entering. Likely, it's something that they've planned for already

I have not seen anything about it, but I am on super liberal sites most of the time so I wouldn't
