So the idea that this only impacts federal workers is simply wrong.

There is are also a couple rules making it harder to start the process to remove a speaker of the house, again to prevent trouble makes like Meadows from trying to stage leadership fights from the minority. So far, January 3rd looks like fun. Oh, and Romney wrote something silly. Edit: I was a bit unfair to Romney, he at least has enough spine to call Trump racist. Which is more than any of the current Republican Senators have done. But we will have to see if he backs it up in the next congress. But considering he is in there until 2024, there is a chance he won’t be kissing McConnels or Trumps ring.

It is, indeed, civilians who rely upon these agencies to act in a timely manner that suffer the real consequences. Most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck.

https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/salary-tables/18Tables/html/GS.aspx Also, I didn't address this before, but as Plansix has mentioned, many government services are suspended during shutdowns, with his example of HUD being just one of many ways Americans are hurt. I'm sure there will be some articles detailing what happened during the shutdown.

Edit: it appears the RNC is concerned about Romney’s op-Ed, which makes me wonder if there are more senators might are close to jumping on the “fuck Trump” train.

Sounds a lot like the problem was Trump withdrawing from Syria and not all the other shit he has done. And no he isn't going to break rank when he talks about a balanced budget. (love how that is back the minute Republicans lose control of the House, where was their balanced budget when they signed on to a debt increase to give corporations a tax cut). Meet the new shit, same as the old shit.

Will he actually take a principled stance as a Senator or is this merely another bang before a whimper a la Flake and Corker? I think he's going to essentially be a McCain with a conscious that extends beyond anything involving the military. He will represent the ways conservatism can be someehat dignified. He'll never get over his disdain for the poor, but he will speak against the heinous stuff that gives Steve Miller a boner. I think he will be a lot less of a party line vote than his predecessor.

But he will use his pleasant sounding Op-Eds to book friendly interviews on sunday 'News' shows on cable. BothSidesAreTheSame journalists will line up to fete him as he never breaks even a single vote from McConnell/Trump.

What happens if both sides just dig in their heels and refuse? Or more likely, the Democrats keep coming up with reasonable bills and Mitch just refuses to table them? https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-shutdown-mcconnell/senate-will-not-consider-house-democratic-bills-to-end-shutdown-republican-mcconnell-idUSKCN1OX01I?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&utm_source=reddit.com
