Although this thread does not function under the same strict guidelines as the USPMT, it is still a general practice on TL to provide a source with an explanation on why it is relevant and what purpose it adds to the discussion. Failure to do so will result in a mod action.

As I've been saying for a years now... the best thing to do is get your skills up... and leave Canada.

"I fear my daughters will see no economic future in Canada"
https://archive.ph/hIIjM

Since about 1960,
economic opportunities in southern Ontario rivalled the best opportunities in the USA until about 2009. It was a great long run... but its over. I really enjoyed playing Canadian employers off of US employers to get my best possible deals. Those days are long over.

There is no "fear". "fear" is not a factor. Reality is the issue.

We used to talk. The Constitution is clear on who is responsible for what. Great leaders like Saskatchewan’s Tommy Douglas fathered public health care and Alberta’s Peter Lougheed created the Alberta Heritage Fund. Pierre Trudeau enacted the most important piece of legislation in our country’s history: the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. These transformative policies were possible when politics was not the arena for grand signalling, but for grand thinking. For grand effort and grand results.

Look at how smart and accomplished the team of PM Pierre Trudeau and Finance Minister Jean Chretien were. Now it is Justin and Freeland. LOL. Canada's leaders are no where near as good. They are not stupid people. However, they are no where near as qualified, experienced, book-smart, or street-smart.

I'll take Chretien over Freeland any day. Its not even close.

"we've got a lot of bleeding hearts in this country who do not like looks of men wearing helmets and carrying guns... well all i have to say is... go on and bleed"

The guy in the posted article should quit whining and create an exit strategy. No one deserves life long permanent multi-generational residence in an apex level 1st world country. You have to go out and find it. And then that country has to welcome you. So as The_pwnerer Jeremy would say "get your skills up"..

The walls are slowly closing in on the most incompetent and unqualified PM to run Canada in 60 years.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/federal-byelection-montreal-winnipeg-1.7321730

i feel bad for the immigrants in Canada today who have a fraction of the economic opportunity i had as a teenager and young adult. it was so easy to make money from 2001 to 2008.

i spend most of my time in Virginia/DC and upstate NY and it feels like the economic opportunities are approximately what i experienced as a teenager/young-adult. so there is great opportunity out there.

it is sad to see southern/south-western ontario go down the drain. many great people there.

Canada requires genius level leadership to bring the country back to greatness. The Terry Fox run ended in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

@jimmyJ Did you see any of this?

https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/parliament-ground-to-a-halt-over-conservative-allegations-of-liberal-corruption-1.7061138

I just caught a youtube video on it today, hadn't heard of it. It seems odd though like the liberals already provided a buncha documents regarding this but they were like heavily redacted, seems insane there might actually be some serious corruption if they are trying to hide it that much. Idk what do you think.

ya, scamming the environmental movement is a genius move. it is already going on ... on a mass scale world wide. Any time you get people to view "science" from a religious dogma perspective that group of people is easy to rip off.

I don't mind if a PM and his power circle skim 0.01% off the top of Canadian economic growth. As long as the average working poor Canadian has a decent shot at becoming middle class I do not care. They can fill their pockets with money. From 1945 to 2010 it was always the case that hard working people could elevate themselves up to middle class and beyond. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Any how if Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Brian Mulroney, and Jean Chretien filled their pockets... meh I do not care. They made Canada great.

If the next PM recreates what Canada was from '45 to 2010 ... He can fills his pockets for all I care.

For sure.. I thought you'd have a better take on this then me. Again I haven't dug deep into it so we'll see what happens.

On the topic of the other PM's, I was young when Chretien but I knew who he was, and my Dad and my Grandfather would argue politics at the table. But I remember they both agreed that Paul martin should have been the next PM after Chretien. Now the way you describe it makes a lot of sense, It's somewhat like that quote from batman the dark night where the joker says " his city deserves a better class of criminal " . Obviously we'd take no corruption but my god if your gonna be corrupt could you do a half decent job.

The only way you have zero corruption is if you have zero economic activity. Some of the best places where I've worked had little pockets of BS activity going on. The best nursing org I ever worked with had nurses doing fake appointments for free money. meh. We kept the BS to a minimum. To take it to zero would have impacted patient care. Management wisely decided a little bit of BS was ok and not worth wrecking the place.

Throughout Canada, the working poor are getting crushed. Its sad man. Southern Ontario used to be the home of smart, savvy hard working immigrants who knew southern ontario was the place to make mountains of money.

i was 16/17 when Chretien quit in 2003. Just look at Chretien's resume before becoming PM. Top legal mind. Excellent performer in all his high government positions. He was a finance minister who fought with Pierre Trudeau all the time. Iron Sharpens Iron. Pierre Trudeau got so fed up with Chretien that he made him the Indian Affairs Minister. That position is a no win for the Minster in charge. And yet, Chretien survived it.

Justin Trudeau is far more charismatic than Jean Chretien. JT has 0.1% of the mind Chretien has.

Canada rose as a G7 major player under Pierre Trudeau. Canada peaked as a country under Jean Chretien.

In the first retractable roof domed stadium, at the foot of the tallest free standing structure on earth, Canada owned America's past time.

Chretien, Mulroney, and Pierre Trudeau made Canada a place of OPPORTUNITY. JT is doing everything he can to end that and make Canada all about EQUITY. My advice to ambitious, intelligent, hard working Canadians: leave Canada.

How many of the protesters screaming "Death To Canada" are stuck in meaningless jobs, barely surviving in cramped living conditions along with zero chance of owning a house? How many of these protesters would qualify for MAID if Trudeau/Liberals had their way and the qualifications for MAID were expanded?

Canada is right now generating more Marc Lepines and more Alek Minassians.

I am not "black pilled". I provide an honest assessment of the leaders of Canada. I reacted accordingly and left the country. Take a hard look at the Finance Minister, the PM, the premier of Ontario, and the mayors throughout the Greater Toronto Area. We used to have minds of high intellectual calibre in these positions. Brilliant people who were also STREET SMART. That is a hard combo to find.

So let's go down the list. Justin Trudeau, Chrystia Freeland, Doug Ford, Olivia Chow, Carolyn Parish.

We used to have Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Jean Chretien, Michael Wilson, Mike Harris, Bob Rae, Hazel Mccallion, Mel Lastman.

Our labour leaders were brilliant men. We were stealing jobs from Michigan and making out like bandits dawg. Bob Rae and Buzz Hargrove were awesome. Now who are our labour leaders?

It is interesting how hated Mike Harris was in the media and yet he got re elected as Premier of Ontario with the highest popular vote in Ontario history. Dude's a genius.

When genius level left wingers and genius level right wingers make street smart compromises the people benefit. That is what Canada was until about 2010.

Watch all these people in interviews from the past. Observe their moves in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. They set Canada up in a great spot.

I love what Canada was. However, its over. I had to go man. It was time for me to Ramble On and Sing My Song.

I suspect Justin Trudeau will step down as PM in the next 10 days. Someone else will take over the Liberal Party and an election will be called in a few months.

Bob Rae should've been leader of the liberals and been PM... not Justin. Hell even Ken Dryden woulda been way better.

This was fun... Canada went on to tie the game and win in OT.

Ontario started sliding downhill in 2009 when Mcguinty botched the energy sector by ending coal.
Electricity was dirt cheap until 2009 and a pillar of the province's manufacturing sector. Another pillar of Ontario's manufacturing sector was smart union leadership. Buzz Hargrove and Bob Rae were absolute bad asses. They got workers the best deals possible while allowing the corps to make money. They also made sure the union workers worked hard. Also, the non union made Toyota Corollas coming out of Ontario had
legendary reliability.

I was so proud to be a Canadian.

Bob Rae should be the PM right now... Not the high school drama teacher who was getting handsy with the young female interns.

Stay away from MDs graduating out of "Ry High"!
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-a-hard-diversity-quota-for-medical-school-admissions-is-a-terrible/

Candidates do not have to have completed the MCAT, and they require a minimum GPA of just 3.3.

Mcgill wants less than 10% jews in their program. They are constantly "counting the jews". LOL
BACKGROUND: Metropolitan university used to be "Ryerson Polytechnical Institute". It was called "Ry High" partly due to the math courses in that school being super basic. I was tutoring Ryerson students on the cheap when I was 14. A 3rd year math course in their most difficult Stem program was easier than every Math course I took at Waterloo.

The admission quotas at Mcgill were antisemitic. The current quotas at "Ry High" are legalized bigotry. What is hilarious is... the quality of the students is the worst in the country. What Ry High is doing should be illegal. Instead, all they are doing is re enforcing their garbage reputation.

Well, BC election just concluded yesterday, I think we're incredibly fortunate it was not any worse than it is. It's back to the power sharing thing the NDP had with the green party in 2017, 46 NDP, 45 conservative, 2 green.

I get that people vote out political parties, but the hatred of the BC NDP for things that are the doing of the Federal parties is kinda unwarranted. Hopefully the 4 years to come puts proportional representation of some sort back on the charts.

Freeland missed her deficit target by 17%. LOL. Remember when Chretien ran the country at a surplus and way paying off the national debt?

I have a 22 year old niece who graduated from a middle of the road college in a middle of the road program 5 months ago. The college is 100 KMs west of Washington DC. 4 months ago she landed a sales/customer support job @ Geico Insurance outside of Washington DC. $54K/year USD + commission. She had to pass some intense training exam. She is running along at $65K/year currently. She is a hard worker.

I have 2 nephews , 21 year olds, making more than $30/Hour USD as electricians.

How many middle of the road, hard working 22 year old Canadians are making $65K USD/year? my guess is... not many.

the NDP popular vote only fell by 3%

I prefer it when the party running my province is not the same party as the federal party in power. it opens up the possibility of smart compromises rather than crony capitalism.
