Really though, besides that being some kind of nuclear powered dog whistle, does it mean he just walks around quoting the original text of Beowulf all day? What an absolute clown. Don't let Canadian Conservatives off the hook here. They aren't any better than the people going on Tucker Carlson to shout their bullshit views. It's all there - they just do it a bit more quietly. edit: fwiw: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-the-danger-pierre-poilievres-corrosive-campaign-poses-to-canada/

Watching these 3 guys speak and debate it saddens me to see how far the intelligence of the political discourse has dropped. Clark, P.E.T., and Broadbent were absolutely brilliant. I met Broadbent + Show Spoiler + in the Rabba Fine Foods under Net Effect ( best SC PC-Bang in Canada), Yonge and Isabella Canada was in such good hands back then. I'd like to see the compensation packages for Canadian politicians be reworked so that the country's greatest minds desire to become PM, Finance Minister, Leader of the Opp., Premier, Health Minister, etc etc. I do not how to accomplish that though. I think it will take a brilliant visionary to enact such a change. Compared to Bill Davis, and P.E.T. ... guys like Justin Trudeau and Doug Ford are intellectual lightweights.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-election-doug-ford-pc-majority-win-1.6471963 Even more remarkable — and something that should worry the NDP and its next leader — was the success of the PC pitch to workers. The party succeeded in capturing such ridings as Windsor-Tecumseh and Essex in the heart of the auto sector, Hamilton East-Stoney Creek in Ontario's Steeltown, and Timmins, a major centre for mining. Compared to Rae, Broadbent, and Layton .... Andrea Horvath is an intellectual lightweight. She failed the working people of Ontario. Good move by her to resign. Hydro never should've been privatized. Again, that's on the NDP. This is the party representing the perspective that the private sector isn't always better. Better NDP leadership never would've let it happen.

"Canada's COVID-19 response was more effective then other G7 nations: new study" Let's see how fast they correct this. so like when Terry Fox ran half way across Canada on one leg before getting lung cancer 40+ years ago... "no one cares"? I disagree.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/rogers-outage-cell-mobile-wifi-1.6514373 Government services including already bottlenecked passport offices, Service Canada, Public Services and Procurement Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency are also affected. The Canadian Border Services Agency says the ArriveCan app is disabled as a result of the outage, and as a result anyone arriving in Canada will have to have a paper copy of their vaccination status. Internet provider TekSavvy, which buys access to the Rogers network on the wholesale level and then resells it to customers, tweeted from its online help account that its own services were down and there is "no ETA" about when it might be restored. The Confederation Bridge between P.E.I. and New Brunswick reported that it has lost the ability to process debit payments, and is currently only accepting cash, credit or gift cards in exchange for payment. My customers in the GTA, Waterloo, Guelph and London all went down around 4 am EST. That seems to coincide with the graph provided in the article. The rogers people i know have no 911 access. Rogers claims 911 works. LOL. Under CRTC rules in place since 2017, telecom networks are supposed to ensure that cellphones are able to contact 911 even if they do not have service.

the emotion and urgency in Foster Hewitt's voice.... just wow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehvzTvsnFoMc I strongly prefer Ken Dryden to Justin Trudeau as a leader for Canada. Its a cryin' shame he left politics. How the Liberals gave more support to Dion and Ignatieff when Dryden was running for the leadership of the party ... I'll never understand.

Because 2nd degree murder is an extremely serious crime and age 13 barely qualifies the alleged criminals as "youth". This is not a 17 year old caught joy riding a stolen expensive sports car. So we have edge cases along multiple lines. Also, the similarity of sentencing aspect of the YCJA will be difficult to apply because not many Canadians aged 12 to 17 commit 2nd degree murder. https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cj-jp/yj-jj/tools-outils/sheets-feuillets/amend-modif.html Adult Sentences The YCJA now requires that the Crown consider seeking an adult sentence for youth aged 14 and older who are charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, or aggravated sexual assault. The Crown is also required to advise the court if they choose not to apply for an adult sentence in a case involving one of these serious violent offences. Provinces and territories have the discretion to set the age at which these Crown obligations apply - from 14 to 16 years of age. 3 of the 8 are under 14. So it'll be interesting to see how the sentencing goes. This will be a very interesting case with results that probably create new precedents. In 2012, the Harper regime introduced amendments to the YCJA to give judges the ability to hand out adult-type sentences to youths committing murder.

This is Canada. The longest any of those girls will stay in jail is 5 years, and I would bet the ones under 14 won't even go to jail. Our justice system is a joke.

If you stiffen up sentences you must pair it with substantial rehabilitation. That is very , very expensive and no one wants to spend the money to do such a thing. It is the best long term solution... its also , by far, the most expensive. If you stiffen up the sentencing while offering nothing solid rehab-wise then you end up steering soft criminals towards a path of evolving into hardened criminals.
