To be clear, I'm perfectly fine with anti religions discourses, but for the right reasons.

the french republic is giving too much credit to the religious representative in the political area, i don't understand why they are invited by the president tbh

Religious people wouldn't agree with you on that one.

The reasons as to why such men can appear in our society are real easy : - they're psychopaths/sociopaths, - they believe God wants them to do whatever it is that they do.
Since I know of no way of preventing psychos from being born, I focus my energy on what we can improve upon : preventing people from believing in retarded bullshit.
Edit :

Agree whole-heartedly with you on that one. But it's not just politics, it's the media too. "Here to discuss gay marriage, Monseigneur Kidfiddler"... Sound familiar?

Religious people wouldn't agree with you on that one. Religious people are victims most of the time : they didn't chose their religion, the world picked it for them.

I disagree, they're not psychopath at all.

Of course, it's the media, it's the politicians, it's also us accepting young people to label themselves as "muslim" or "jew" like it's some kind of opposition to being "french". We're way too tolerant with religious or ethnical identities, so much that we've forgotten that the republic is a transcendental, more inclusive value than any particularism.

Psychopathology is a purely physical condition, it's an observable anomaly most commonly found in the frontal lobes. The odds that these guys fit the medical criteria for psychopathology are very low. This is very likely behaviour driven by a strongly held representation of a possible state of the universe; that there is a supreme being who has decreed that this is the most morally salient behaviour possible given the circumstances.

Stop debating the merits of religion.
That isn't what this thread is for.
Please.
Also, no more casual racism/bigotry/islamophobia/ whatever the fuck you want to call it. I don't care how many immigrant friends you have, I don't care how "open" you claim to be, please consider the way you say things here and how they come across.
A lot of the posts in this thread are bordering on bigotry and I am trying to sift through it with other mods right now. Making claims about a whole population of people based on poor facts is in fact, not okay. It is also not what the thread is about. This thread is about the happenings in France.

i think there is a huge paranoia going on right now in france and we are going to see a lot of things like this

The movement of solidarity for Charlie Hebdo is heartwarming. I'm glad to hear they're receiving a significant donation, and that they'll be publishing again next week. I'll be sure to go buy it, I suggest my countrymen from TL do the same.
I don't usually buy newspapers, and when I do it's only Le Canard Enchaîné, but I will go out of my way to buy Charlie Hebdo next week. It's the best way to show extremists that we cherish our freedom of press and of speech.

Since the vehicle was parked here for days, it is probably not related to this week shootings.

This news is horrible, and I feel sick to my stomach hearing about it.

Do you know where the next issue will be available in France ? Is it subscription only ? I'm really considering buying it, but I don't know where to get it and when.

Is every big TL news thread going to be an obsessive mod dogpile from now on? I have to sift through countless pages of "don't talk about stuff please" before I find anything connected to the subject.
|
I hope that you're right and that it will be easy to find. Heard all money earned will be given to Charlie & victims family since french stores refused to accept the money from the sales of this issue of Charlie Hebdo.
