+ Show Spoiler +Well the whole point of Victarion is to get Dany a fleet of ships to sail home on. How she ends up getting the ships and Victarions fate is the part we don't know. Also I think Dany will end up being master of the horn. She'll be able to tame and control her dragons and get to Westeros.

I'm talking about the fact that he wears full plate on ships, while raiding, and kills literally everyone who gets in his way, while at the same time actually having all of the things you mentioned to balance him out. Also he's loyal to the brother he despises which is kind of boss imo. I also really like Aeron though, but I don't see him 'stumbling onto importance' on his own. But who knows, he disappeared after the kingsmoot iirc so who knows what he's going to do. I just like Victarion a lot, I can understand why you one might not. I just like the idea of the ironborn in general, their culture is just so different from all the other areas. They're basically wildlings.

about adwd:
+ Show Spoiler +I hope Jon is dead. The book gives the impression that he was stabbed for multiple times, and you don't survive that unless for Melisandre's sorcery or some other trickery. I would be pretty annoyed if it turns out he survived. I love Jon and I love Tyrion, but when it turned out Tyrion didn't drown I felt like I had been cheated. I had already come to acceptance with the fact that he died. I can't believe GRRM did the same thing with Davos, although his death was not nearly as certain at the end of that court chapter. Am I the only one annoyed by these fake deaths?

+ Show Spoiler + I think he warged into ghost, which will be interesting as he won't be able to come back into human form, and I wonder if others will realise that its John, and what he will do

+ Show Spoiler +I never believed for a second that Tyrion was dead. As for Jon, I believe that he is dead but that we will see him again in one way or another. Caitlyn shows that dead isn't necessarily the end of it.

Just finished the series after i watched A Game of Thrones.
So far, very good series, although book 4 was kind of unnecessary. Book 5 was on the same level as book 1 for me, more preparation for greater things to happen. Book 2 was the best for me, book 3 had just too many marriages.
And the Ironborn are the best. I hope they win. Although it seems for me unlikely. Victarion is badass, also Asha, and Theon has one of the best stories of all characters.
And Jon is much overrated. + Show Spoiler +You can't expect him to live long with all the things he does to bring the Watch against himself. Hardhome would be madness, but then planning to ride south is more dumb than anything.

I agree that planning to ride south was a mistake, but everything else he did was necessary. With the wildlings and night watch fighting, the wall would fall to the others without hardly any resistance. Which is what will happen now probably.
Also, the Ironborn are all murderous fanatic lunatics, and their whole society is based on living off the work of others. Just saying.

Why is Westeros the only continent that seems concerned about the Others--surely they wouldn't stop at destroying only Westeros and would continue on to the Free Cities, right? Did Valyria have to deal with the Others...?

Why would Euron give Victarian control of any dragons with no leash on his brother? Somewhat expect Victarian to confront Danny, blow the horn, nothing happens, shit burns, and Euron is less one contender for his throne. + Show Spoiler +Seems unlikely...he sent off the entire iron fleet which is like 90% of the iron islands' strength. Without the iron fleet Euron doesn't have shit. He wouldn't have wasted them all with a fake horn. But Euron has something up his sleeve no doubt. + Show Spoiler +He didnt tell him how the horn works. It is infused with Euron. However the red priest that victorion found in the see has explained the workings of the horn. So now he can bind it to him instead of Euron. I assume Euron hasn't acounted for that and believes victorion will use the horn and get him the dragons. + Show Spoiler +If you recall, the red priest tells Victarion that the person that blows the horn will die. Euron expects Victarion to be the one to blow the horn. He never thought that Victarion would meet somebody that would actually tell him the lore behind the horn. So All Victarion needs is some random person to just blow the horn for him and he will have control over the dragons instead of Euron.
+ Show Spoiler +Victarion know that the guy who blew the horn died from it, so I don't think he would have blown the horn regardless of whether or not he met the black flame.

Ok, when I think about it, maybe it wouldnt be bad to not have 10000 undead willings attack the wall
But the Ironborn - do they really have the choice to NOT live off the work of others? Their isles are poor, they need land. Balon Greyjoy is kind of dumb, but I like the mystery about Euron (who else was in Valyria?). And nearly all humans in ADWD are murderous fanatic lunatics.

Finally finished ADWD. Let me see if I've got the score right at the moment:
Notably Dead: Kevan, Quentyn Notably Maybe Dead: Jon, Stannis - I feel like at least one has to be alive still, but beats me which. MIA: Theon, Asha Loose ends: Euron, Jaimie/Brienne/un-Cate
I think everybody else we're about caught up with, yes?
Thoughts: tbh I feel like "Aegon" is a good stroke, even if it makes it that much more a ridiculous plot. Tyrion's a fantastic character but he really needs to just die already. I have great hopes for Victarion but he'll probably just go over the side and drown. Most curious about Mance at this point.

I think Ramsay was lying about defeating Stannis tbh. It just doesn't seem to fit for me.
Also, in regards to the horn, my first thought was that Daenerys was going to end up being the one to use it since the inscription said "no mortal man" (like LOTR) and then in the last Daenerys chapter it mentions how her predecessors used horns and sorcery (or something like that) to control the dragons. But then at the end it seemed like she didn't even need it, so .. I'm not sure what to think anymore.
Jon's death made me really sad, he should have listened to Melisandre more

Victarion will use the horn, bind all the dragons to him and win the game of thrones.
The guy deserves it. Going from most boring adition to best character in the story over the course of 2 books.
Who has a burning arm, fights on ships with full plate armor and sacrifices people to 3 different gods in one go? Yes you, yes you.

I struggle to like characters that are clearly meant to be insta-badass. The most notable other person like this was Oberyn. When he made an appearance and was clearly supposed to be crazy awesome, I was just kinda meh on it.

Also just finished aDwD and I'm kinda happy Jon died (?) his talk about saving all the people at the sea. He should have known that it was impossible... I mean to me it certinatly looked doomded.

Victarion was hardly "insta-badass". If anything in book 4 he is a bit of a whiny bitch.
In book 5 he kinda gets into his own and does some of the more original stuff. I think he appeals in the same way that Drogo appeals. Sure he's going to bring death rape and destruction if he wins but he's above most of the politics.
When i read the first book a small part of me was on the Drogo train. Something about a character that doesn't have any hidden agenda in a book full of characters that all have one if not several.
So i have to disagree that Victarion is a try-hard badass character. His attitude and actions are genuinely awesome (albeit it evil or as close to evil as Martin gets).
Also just finished aDwD and I'm kinda happy Jon died (?) his talk about saving all the people at the sea. He should have known that it was impossible... I mean to me it certinatly looked doomded.
I would not say i was happy but looking back i suppose there really was little to no other outcome. He might have been doing the right thing all the time but going against that many people? Regardless of what good you do if you piss off everyone that has your back it's gonna bite you in the end.
That's why i really really hope that Jon does not get rezzed despite liking Jon a good deal.

You're right. But in book 5, he gets into his own in way too sudden of a fashion. It's not like Manderly, who slowly got built up and becomes cool in a very nice way. He just suddenly is awesome, and that never sits right with me.

There were thousands of people there, the way I see it, Jon wanted to bring them south of the wall, so when winter comes ALL of the wildlings wouldn't freeze to death and wake up as whitewalkers.

Wait it's confirmed Jon is dead? I just figured he had his throat slashed. Gotta go re-read...
