Getting one's throat slashed and dying are not mutually exclusive.

Nothing is confirmed for Jon, he was stabbed multiple times by multiple people in the chest/back. It was akin to Ceasar's death which is why you might of seen "et tu Bowen".

kinda disappointing at the end... Epic Jon Snow moment....o wait did he just die out of fucking no where?!
|
+ Show Spoiler [ADWD] +I'm pretty sure he warged out at the last moment just like the guy in the prologue. Either jumped into Wun Wun like Bran jumps into Hodor, or maybe just into Ghost. Or maybe Melisandre will resurrect him, other red priests seem to have that power so why not her? It just seems strange to let Jon die right now.

I think it sets the mood for the wall to completely turn to shit allowing the white walkers to invade, still, does seem like a bit of a letdown for an entire book and a half of JON SNOW JON SNOW.
Wish GRRM would write faster.

Anyone know what happened to Lady Catelyn Stark? She went undead and then just dissapeared. Is she still hanging out with the outlaws?

Should have known not to click on this thread, just beginning ADWD.. Would be really awesome and considerate if all spoilers were properly marked though >< Top of this page was a MAJOR one...
Anyway, just came to ask why there was such an extreme dislike for AFOC and ADWD... I'd rate AFOC just as highly as the first three, and I'm not far into ADWD but I'm happy with it so far. Perhaps someone can convince me to hate it? Or is it simply because it lacked some of the fan favorite POVs?

Aw man, spoilers suck - I wasn't digging AFOC because of all the new characters and kingsmoots and crap. ADWD was ok for me - it seems to be a lot of setup for what I'm hoping will be some epic stuff coming up

+ Show Spoiler +I find it highly unlikely that Jon Snow is gone for good. It seems to me there are too many hints to him playing a much larger role in the story as a whole. eg, the whole who are his parents question hasnt been answered yet, only hinted at multiple times. So wheter he just plainly survives the attempt on his life, or gets ressurected like we have seen before, or something im pretty confident he will be back! im personally intrigued by the Rhaegar - Lyanna theory and him being the blue rose at the wall of ice, or however that part went.

+ Show Spoiler +As far as we know she is still leading the Brotherhood without Banners. The timeline for that section of westeros didnt see much progression at all in ADWD.

So I'd say that's some progression. That's one case where I don't think that GRRM is screwing with us.

+ Show Spoiler +Jon has no practice, I don't think he could just jump into Wun Wun, Bran 'had to open his third eye' and that took practice.
It seems to me that R'hollor is the most 'powerful' of the gods, constantly showing it's might. When Jon 'taunted' Melisandre of being wrong about the sights, "Daggers in the dark. A grey girl on a dying horse, and chose NOT to keep Ghost close (kept locked in his chambers)" that is when everything goes wrong as we know.
The Old Gods also, very powerful. "I should not have left the Wall. Lord Snow could not have known, but I should have seen it. Fire consumes, but cold preserves. The Wall...but it is too late to go running back. This is what Aemon told Sam while at Braavos.
Just something to think about. R'hollor = fire. The Old Gods = cold obviously.

+ Show Spoiler + Brienne did show up and told Jamie she found the girl, and that Jamie had to come with her ALONE or Hound would kill the girl.. so I dont believe she's taking Jamie to catelyn

+ Show Spoiler +Why not? Brienne was taking Jamie to Catelyn in my mind, it's not like he would have come with her if she told him the zombie formerly known as Catelyn is hanging Frey's and Lannisters and would love to see him again

DwD Jon Stuff:
+ Show Spoiler +Really? After everything people think Jon is dead? If I had a penny for everytime someone "died" in these books I'd have like... 20 pennies.
He's clearly not dead. He's going to be in ghost for a while, then come back into his repaired body, or someone elses body. Mel has seen it in her fires she said it herself its so obvious its not even funny. GRRM doesn't like to kill of characters half assed, he makes sure you know they're dead. Like properly dead. Like holy shit he has no head anymore dead. Jon isn't dead yet. His body may be. But the character will probably be there till the end. Don't worry about it guys. Jon has got this.
And speaking of Jon, how badly written was that last chapter with him. Probably the worst chapter in the book. Seemed rushed as fuck.
|
The last two books have been disappointing personally, queen cercei in particular, for a moment I thought I was reading some mexican soap opera..oh well at least Tyrion hasn't died yet.
|
Feast for crows had way too much Cersei in it, it's true, she is by far my least favorite character. Not because she's mean, I love venomous characters, but because she's completely retarded and self-delusional.
As for dwd, my first thought was that Jon would die, but rise again, much like coldhands. But not necessarily. That's what we love about GRRM, remember? It's realistic, just because someone is important doesn't mean they can't die at any time.
But I gotta wonder: now that all the wildlings are already inside the wall, what exactly could Bowen and the rest hope to accomplish by killing Jon?
Oh well... See you again in a couple of years for Winds of Winter I guess...
Also: please don't come into a thread about a book or a movie asking people to spoiler their comments. You might as well walk into a cinema in the middle of a movie asking for it to be restarted just for you.

I had to laugh after I read that chapter the first thing that came to mind was stabbed multiple times, yet none fatal. Ontop of that adding on the point from the guy above about Bowen I also thought about what purpose that serves. The wildlings are "more or less" Jon's. Tourmund likes Jon which holds sway with the rest of them. If they get found out that the guy who saved the wildlings from the Others got murdered by them they'll have thousands of wildlings scrabbling to cut their throat. It's a shame because I found that whole theme of the chapter amazingly epic and I can't describe how much I like Tourmund. Adding on more so, did anyone find it strange during the Wildlings through the gate that the Skinchanger called Jon brother and Jon ignored it. I also find the prologue scene to be strange, you don't put that in there unless it's for a point. I think Jon is going to do what the guy did at the start.

Just finished the book! I was so tempted to check this thread and I am so glad I didn't. You live and learn
I don't see why there is such a dislike either. AFFC and ADWD are on par with the first two books for me. Though they don't reach the level of ASOS, which had a brilliant ending. I did want more to happen at the end but most everything will be resolved. Just have to wait 5 more years for the next book to come out =/

+ Show Spoiler +It seemed pretty obvious to me that Brienne was lying. We found out in AFFC that the hound ravaging the countryside wasn't really the hound, and we know that the neither of the girls are even close to where Brienne is at. Plus she insists that Jaime comes alone....
In the book it says Brienne looks 10 years older, plus she seems unusually trite with Jaime. She is most likely working for Catelyn now, and I don't even think she is her real self.

+ Show Spoiler +At first I was shocked when Jon died, then sad, then angry, but in the end it makes sense. Jon was spreading the watch too thin and was treading on thin ice throughout the whole book trying to reconcile the wildings and the watch and Stannis' brood. Sending men to save the people at Hardhome would surely fail and just weaken the wall that much more. Then he was going to head south and take men with him there... in a way he had to die.
And I hope Melisandre doesn't bring him back. There have already been enough undead characters: Catelyn, Beric, Coldhands(who may be Benjen stark), and possibly Brienne. And if he just ends up in ghost, what would be the point? He couldn't really be a commander of the wall as a wolf...
|
I have a feeling the wall is going to get ran the fuck over by others sometime in the next one so GRRM might be killing Jon to save him. If that makes sense...
I think Brienne will take him to Catelyn, she sticks to her word and is all about the honour. Who knows what the hell will happen with Jamie when he gets there, hard to predict.
